My parents we're both born in 1930 in Northeast Texas. Life on cotton farm with 18 mouths to feed (my dad's fam) life is already hard enough. The market crash and the Dust Bowl, with the life we all live today, we could not come close to even imagining how hard life was. My dad's family owned their land, which elevated them to just above snail slime. My mother's family were sharecroppers. They rented land to grow cotton. Her family was so poor they couldn't afford dirt, literally. But this environment produce two of the most wonderful people I had ever met and loved in my life. There wasn't anything my dad couldn't do or build. He made sure before he passed that my mom was financially secure.... That drove him, making sure her and at the time me we're taking care of if he died. I heard many tales, not just from them, heard it from the Grannies and my Aunts who all lived thru that horrible time. Bless America, every adversity that our country hits, we face it, hit right back, learn and come back stronger and more united

Crops began to fail with the onset of drought in 1931, exposing the bare, over-plowed farmland. Without deep-rooted prairie grasses to hold the soil in place, it began to blow away. Eroding soil led to massive dust storms and economic devastation-especially in the Southern Plains.

Blake Shelton, was the first country artist to win album of the year and best male artist during the regular country music awards. He made a huge breakthrough in the country industry. He changed it all! He wanted to sing rock so bad and be one of those hair bands in the 80’s and 90’s and he said it didn’t sound right cause of his accent so he stuck to his roots. In turn he really took country music to a whole other level. U have rock, country, blues, soul and deep country all in one. U gotta go through his songs u will luv it. I’m an eclectic I luv it all!!! Literally all!

Saying the dustbowl was caused, purely by a drought is a great misunderstanding. An almost equal factor would be farming practices, where they fully stripped the land, getting rid of the plants that would hold the dirt in place allow allowing it to be picked up by the wind as it dried out due to conditions of the drought.

My paternal grandparents moved from Texas to California during the Dust Bowl. They had a baby and a young toddler (my uncle and dad). They lived the story of The Grapes of Wrath, working as itinerate farm workers. They got paid in whatever they were picking. If it was peaches, almonds, tomatoes, green beans, that was their pay and what they ate and fed their babies. They lived in their car, with the babies sleeping inside the car and mom and dad sleeping on the ground under a makeshift tent made of a blanket attached to the trunk lid, a couple of poles and twine to hold it all together. They worked and lived like that until the end of the Depression, when my grandpa finally found a job that could support the family.

BP, my understanding is that for years mid-western farmers planted the same crop(s) in the same fields. Because of this, the land was depleted and dried out and then the drought came. The land was so dry that it just blew away, covering everything. At this time many people from the Plains moved West to California. After the great Dust Bowl, farmers learned to rotate crops so the land wasn't depleted and learned to plant tree blinds to help keep the land in place. We still have droughts today, but nothing like what happened in the 30s.

I love this song. And as an avid Hard Rock/Metal fan love the metal covers of this song even more.

Blake Sheldon is such a great artist and he has some great stats too. 28 number 1's with 17 of those being consecutive number 1's, starting with his very first single. He hit the country scene with a blockbuster number 1 hit, Austin, and BAM 17 more number 1s hits back to back to back! He came out swinging and never stopped!! He referrences "the devil went down to georgia" that is another EPIC country song by The Charlie Daniels's Band that will also blow your mind, fiddle playing at it's finest and no enhancement like today's musicians!!! They couldn't get away with not playing The Devil Went Down To Georgia at their concets without risking an angry mob!! Blake shelton was the King of the Mullet back in the day!! The time was the "dust bowl" and that was what the footage was from. And he is married to Gwen Stefani from No Doubt, I guess she likes country too!! He was previously married to Miranda Lambert who is a queen of country music in her own right! Another country song I know you would personally love, It's not from the older country, called Bartender Song (Sitting at a Bar), with a cameo from Hank Williams Jr., one of the Kings of country, It's a lighthearted fun song!

Blake was a mentor/judge on the Voice, where he met his wife Gwen Stefani, of No Doubt fame. Blake is one of the biggest country artists.

Loved the shout out to Colorado Springs! I was born there, Fort Carson. Matters zero where you're from, it's all God's country. We just lease it

When I was a teenager I was mowing the lawn in my bare feet and a snake slizzered right over my foot and headed towards the water. Fortunately I'm not that scared of snakes so it didn't really bother me. Moral of the story, don't mow the lawn in your bare feet.

Actually artist named Hardy wrote this song. I like both versions. My dad was born in 1929. He said it was bad back then.

Hands down favorite Blake Shelton song *The Baby* and then *Home* , particularly the version with Usher at Healing In The Heartland benefit concert after the 2013 tornado. Yes, it's the Dust Bowl (This is what John Steinbeck's Grapes Of Wrath is centered around...Okies used as an insult, packing what they had and going to CA for gold) and Great Depression. Blake is from a place in Oklahoma that's somewhat is in the southeastern part of the state (his Ole Red Bar and Grill is in Tishomingo), I'm from Western OK, 38 miles from the Texas panhandle on I-40. When he's talking about the Back 40, it's a farm term, you always worked the back 40 before anything else. Here, it can also mean that you had to park a pretty good clip away from where you need to be. He was on The Voice for *years* .... he puts on a wicked concert. Mangum OK always has a Rattlesnake Festival....it's a heart attack on land. Depending on what terrain, we have Rattlesnakes, Copperheads, Cottonmouths, Bull Snakes, Black Racer (it's a type of garden snake) and a few more that I'm forgetting because uh no! Leave them alone and they'll leave you alone, usually.
