It was also in the opening credits of the movie "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" "Immigrant Song" It was a cover by Karen O with Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross!! It was awesome!!
As Jack Black put it so well when he introduced Led Zeppelin at their Kennedy Honors ceremony….”They sang songs about love…about Vikings…….about Vikings making love.”
Led Zeppelin are part of the 'Unholy Trinity', along with Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. All 3 bands were formed in 1968 in England. The most surprising thing about this is that the space ship they arrived in has never been found
@AprilJMoon. It's hidden in the dark depths of one of the woods in England's New Forest. We have to go to it 4 times a year to make sure it's all still in working order. Funny enough it still looks and starts up exactly the same as when it landed. But "Shush" nobody else must know.😂 Time for me to put down the joint and take my proper meds. Oh bugger! ✌
The singer Robert Plant is very interested in early British history. This is about the Scandinavian viking raids and invasion of the British Isles from 794 AD . The occupied north east england ,northumbria, for several hundred years . Led Zep had been doing concerts in Iceland and apparently had had a very nice time so they wrote this to celebrate . I also think you should do Since i've been loving you the live at Madison square garden 1973 performance next , you'll see their blues influenced side but if you want to go full on rock Black Dog , rocknroll and heart breaker all from the same concert. You need more led zep resistance is futile !!!
Best version!! Just so you know, in the 70's Led Zeppelin was the most pirated band ever. People were bringing 16 mm movie cameras to their shows. There are tons of pirate videos out there. So when they made this DVD, like in 2010, Jimmy Page (lead guitar, chief of the band) compiled pirate videos to make THIS video. He says he always loved the pirate videos of their concerts.
I saw Led Zepplin at The Chicago Stadium in 1977 , Lucky I got tickets, They sold out 4 shows @ 18,000 seats each, that's 72,000 seats, in less than a half hour.
I saw them at Madison Square Garden the same year. I have never seen such tight security at a concert in my life! I had my ticket checked 6 times before I got to my seat. There had just been a riot at one of their shows in Tampa, Florida because of a rainout. They weren’t taking any chances of a repeat of that, even though MSG is an indoor venue. There were cops all over the place. I was in an orchestra seat, and if you ventured beyond your little section, the cops would rudely push you back where you “belonged”. Never had that happen, before or since then. On top of that, there were idiots in the upper seats throwing firecrackers down on us below. Some jerk hit Jimmy Page’s hand with one at the following night’s show. Crazy times. 😂 Other than that, it was a great concert. Jimmy’s violin bow solo while surrounded by a swirling green laser pyramid was particularly memorable.
Led Zeppelin never disappoints. Robert Plant is one of the best rock/blues vocalists. What a voice. He's still touring here and there in his 70s. He had a highly successful solo career also. After Led Zeppelin broke up when John Bonham died, the epic fantastic drummer. They said they would never be the same without Bonham.
Led Zeppelin was like the Beatles of heavy metal. Having grown up at the time there was nothing ever like this before. Every album they put out was excellence and originality. Go through their library I'm sure you will agree. Jimmy Page was one of the original rock and roll session players like Eric Clapton.. honestly the first time I heard this I was a young teenager and I almost had a heart attack lol after this the biggest thing was Black Sabbath and then after that was Metallica in my opinion
The Led Zeppelin 'Celebration Day' reunion concert in 2007 at the 02 and their live performance of 'Kashmir' is a must watch/listen. The drummer that day is Jason Bonham, the Son of their deceased drummer, Jon Bonham. The whole gig was awesome.
I always loved the version of "For Your Life" from that concert. And lets be honest, that who show kicks so much ass its like Zep never stopped. They were magic on stage once more, so incredible!
Many bands have been chasing the mighty Zepp for years no one is close carry on soldiers I respect the chase Led Zeppelin the greatest band ever period.
may I please highly highly highly recommend that you react to Zeppelin's live version of "since I've been Loving you"? you'll see a blues influence , amazing amazing guitar work it's just a beautiful piece
That yell is a Viking war cry. If you listen to any Norse music, you’ll hear a lot of them (though maybe less epic than Robert Plant’s. More authentic, but not more epic!) ❤️🎶
I love Led Zeppelin...Jimmy Page was my first favorite guitarist... when I started playing. I was 13. I still love them, but they weren't my favorite live...they were just SOOOO good in the studio. Part of it is layering... it'd probably take a 26 piece band to reproduce live what they did in the studio.
This is EXACTLY the one to choose! I feel electrified every time I watch this video. It's almost incomprehensible how good this band is. Those drums - Jon Bonham, that electric guitar - Jimmy Page, that bass guitar - John Paul Jones, and of course, the insane voice of Robert Plant. I don't think there's ever been any band that can come close to the cohesiveness of each of the parts. Plants' voice is like an instrument of its own. They have such an extensive catalog. Thanks for playing this one. It gives you a perfect example of what this band can do. And there's more in store. A rabbit hole I think you will find almost addicting. I will always be completely pissed at myself for not going to see them back then. It's not like I didn't have the chance.
You need to hear that sound in the beginning in a stadium like this, sun beating down, surrounded by crowds of strangers that you somehow know, when your barely 18, and just trusting the universe.
favorite moment as a substitute co-teacher at my kids' school: when the lead teacher put this song on for study time. SO FREAKING AWESOME to see all these 5th grader heads banging to the music while doing their math and writing worksheets 😎
This was in the title sequence of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" - also in "Thor Ragnarok", "Shrek 3" and "School of Rock"... There might be others.
Led Zeppelin originally denied Richard Linklater permission to use "Immigrant Song" in School of Rock (2003), but star Jack Black was able to convince them by making a video of himself performing the song.[24] In the movie Shrek the Third (2007), "Immigrant Song" appears in a battle scene involving the character Snow White.[25] A cover of "Immigrant Song", produced by Atticus Ross and Nine Inch Nails member Trent Reznor with vocals from Yeah Yeah Yeahs lead singer Karen O, plays in the trailer and throughout the title sequence of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011).[26] "Immigrant Song" was included in both the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and twice in the film itself, due to director Taika Waititi's suggestion of the song from the time of his first involvement with the film and to the persistent efforts of the movie's music supervisor Dave Jordan.[27]
The band had toured in Iceland, & Plant anyways became fascinated about the Viking lore. This song was written kind of as a joke, but became very popular. It’s been used to some extent in several movies. Though everything they did is amazing, try Earls Court (1975) In My Time Of Dying, Page plays the hell out of a steel guitar. At Knebworth (1979) Achilles Last Stand* In The Evening & Kashmir. Anything from MSG (1973), is exceptional. A great studio only song is, You Shook Me. Thanks for your reaction, & keep going down the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole.
This concert was at the Cricket Grounds in Sydney, Australia. BTW, LET IT EFFING PLAY!!! This song has absolutely NOTHING to do with the current situation at our Southern border. As many have noted, it is about the Vikings invading England, but written during their visit to Iceland.
We come from the land of the ice and snow From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow This is literally Iceland and my country was the inspiration after they came to Iceland back in the seventies.
I love watching your Led Zeppelin journey. They were definitely influential on many bands. The only movies I can think of off hand are Thor Ragnarock , Shrek and School of Rock. I’m sure it’s been used in other things as well.😊
I really hope that you get around to see them do "Since I've Been Loving You" live. IMHO, this is them at their best when performing live. You won't be disappointed!
It’s been in several movies. The one that sticks out to me is when it was in the third Shrek movie. Snow White was preparing for a battle and kicked it off with Plant’s yodel.
Before a movie (don't ask me, cause I have no idea which one -- Hammer of the Gods lyric along with the land of ice and snow and then Valhalla, was it a Thor movie????) brought this to a younger generation, my son asked me why I knew all these songs on radio. It was about 5 years later, and he asked me if I knew the song and played ..... I'm thinking sometimes it was never my husband or my influence on this kid :) They always wrote about the more obscure, but more than the singing (to me) it's the band that pulled me in. If I get the meaning, great...if not, I'm ok with that too because dayum!
Zeppelin did historical content and Cream did too including fantasy music about Isis and various things. Tales of Brave Ulysses was a Cream fantasy song.
Your next song by them should be the audio version of When The Levee Breaks. Bonzo played his drums at the bottom of a stairwell of an old manner house in England with microphones on each landing. Then everyone played their instruments with Robert Plant on harmonica. Once it was recorded they slowed everything down to give it a drowning sound, then Robert Plant did the vocals.
top 5 Zeppelin song...at least... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check out "When The Levee Breaks" and "Dazed and Confused"...unbelievable blues mixed with hard ass rock...studio versions IMHO
Yes, Robert wrote great story line based lyrics! The other outstanding story teller of this time is the great Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull fame! He took up the flute knowing he’d never play guitar as well as Jimmy, the rest is history. Strongly recommend you pull up this gem from Jethro Tull “My God (Nothing Is Easy) - Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970
The opening screams are supposed to be the cries of the Valkyries leading viking warriors into battle. The song is about the vikings going to conquer the British Isles.
The whole song accompanies the opening credits of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" (Rooney Mara version.) Those credits are far more interesting than watching this blurry, jumpy, concert footage. 😮💨
Many think that Robert Plants choice of shirts are weird but it is said that he wears the woman he slept with the day befores shirt during the concerts. Rock n Roll.
Jimmy page was the youngest studeo mucian in England history, he was the last member of the yard birds that then changed the name to led zepplin when this line up was formed, yes black magic was used
Really would suggest listening to "Moby Dick" by them. Definitely the one live from Madison Square Garden from 1973 It's one of the best drum solos ever. John Bonham will always be one of the best and influential drummers of all times!!
I want to say the reason this sounded familiar might be because it was in one of the Shrek movies, when Snow White made the woodland animals attack the palace guards.
It was in Thor and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This band is amazing! Check out Guns N Roses: Sweet Child o’ Mine, Paradise City. Welcome to the Jungle. Joan Jett: I love Rock n Roll, Bad Reputation, Do you wanna touch me
