I watched an interview w Mike. He said, sometimes he hears random sounds and decides to learn how to imitate them himself. He heard an air conditioner running, thought it sounded cool, so he figured out how he could imitate it… I’m still waiting for a Project to be released titled “Death of an Air Conditioner “. Each track he makes different air conditioner sounds as it struggles to survive the hell of summer. It progressively sounds faster & overworked as the days get hotter. Then finally, between July & August, the hottest months, it runs out of control, coughing, sputtering, squealing, rattling…until it finally dies and is silent. That would be cool.

When I saw Faith No More open for GNR and Metallica in 92, Mr. Patton was rolling around onstage in a plastic bag. He truly doesn’t give AF 😆 He was (is-? Not sure if they’re still) married to an Italian woman and has lived (or still lives) in Italy… hence why he is fluent in the language You guys do recall that you’ve seen him with an orchestra before, right? 😊

5:00 How do we beat what we've seen from Mike Patton thus far? Check out his collaboration with Dillinger Escape Plan on the Irony is A Dead Scene EP. I'm not sure you guys are ready for it but I'll recommend it nonetheless. Pig Latin, Hollywood Squares or one of my favorites of Patton's entire catalog, When Good Dogs Do Bad Things are as crazy, if not crazier, than he is here.

Have you heard Fantomas or Tomahawk. When i saw Fantomas at The Power station in Auckland 1100 capacity club Mike had racks of keyboards in an L shape at the front of the stage with DAVE LOMBARDO on Drum's also set up right at the front of the stage facing Mike Patton when those two dueled THE WORLD STOPPED I'M NOT KIDDING EVERY ONE STOPPED MOVING AND PROBABLY BREATHING WTF JUST HAPPENED

Contrary to rumor, he is not vocally trained at all. He just hears sounds and emulates them amazingly. There is a story he tells of one time he went to a vocal coach way back in the beginning and he tried to touch him so he never went back. He is self taught by inspiration.

He's from California, so native English... but yeah, he picks up languages very quickly. For this project it used the fact he learned Italian for decades due to his wife being Italian, but he does other songs in different languages as you're aware. But just speaking-wise, he does pick up languages very quickly... his bandmates, especially Faith No More, have commented and joked about how they'll be in a location for a few day and he's already speaking the basics of the local language. As to drugs, he performs sober or with a bit of alcohol depending on the show. In behind the scenes (and the two concerts I've been to) he's very clearly sober... this is just how he is about singing. It's the dude's absolute passion and he just throws himself into whatever he's doing, be it live or studio.

MIKE HAS NEVER EVER BEEN TRAINED IN SINGING! Mike also has said he does not do drugs. He also does not do groupies. He said he'd rather wank than sleep with a stranger lol He is a very good boy He also speaks Spanish German Portuguese Italian French and English. He learnt them all after joining Faith No More. I might have missed one out now.

Just f.y.i.: Mike Patton has a 7(+) octave vocal range. An insane range. [Freddie Mercury and Geoff Tate are, each, about 5 (give-or-take). Rob Halford (my personal fav.) has about 4.5-5 🤷...] ...but: range is useless if you don't employ it interestingly. Patton loves noise and insanity and the undefinable. 🤘🤘

Oh, and: Patton has some Italian heritage & these are Italian folk/pop songs. -Also: Stop reiterating the mistake that: a vocalist needs to speak or "know" a language that he is singing in. For years, Klaus Meine (of: Scorpions) did not speak English. one whit! ...but: SANG English lyrics. ... Klaus (or any vocalist) did (can) learn the "SOUND of the words" ...the sound of the language. ...without having any comprehension. ...He or she, simply, mimics how the words sound when a native speaker, speaks them (or, rather, TRIES to. -often with quite good results.). ...But, anyhow: yes: I believe Patton is multi-lingual (but he is. absolutely, U.S. born and an English-speaker, primarily.).

Some of the best MUSICIANS i have known have never been to a music lesson most can't read music but FUCK they sure as hell can play ( David Hines) drummer for missing teeth and roofdog keyboards and vocals for THE MURDER CHORD auckland new zealand mean as fuck on bass and guitar as well. my other friends David and Simon insane guitar and bass players (The City Newtown Bomber's CHECK OUT.... LOOKING PRETTY GOOD FOR THE NEW YEAR live at Galatos. their first band Anigma opened for Metallica may the first 1989 and later Anthrax their next band Rumble Fish opened for JANE'S ADDICTION bla bla bla rant rant bla mumble mumble 🤪😵‍💫🙄🥱😴😴😴 verbal diarrhoea 🤢🤮👍

I think the only real "training" Mike has done was when he originally started working with John Zorn, but that was still all things he learned on his own. Right before Angel Dust, he spent a LOT of time doing what I guess could be considered voice acting practice where he would try to emulate things with his voice, for example instruments and sounds from nature and the environment and even other vocalists. A lot of those techniques ended up being used on Angel Dust and he has done voice acting work since. The guy pretty much just wings it.

screaming and yelling is not what freddie mercury would ever had done, because he was a singer; mike's range in real singing is not at all bigger than freddie's; he even has no vibrato that's worth mentioning, but i like him very much in mr bungle, fantomas and what he does with john zorn's music 😉
