Man I miss the 90s 🎵 I got to actually hang out with Faith No More at the Avalon Club in Boston in 92 before I knew Roddy was Gay and I'm pretty sure that's why a friend and I were able to hang w the band! But yes, a bit underrated. Also saw them at the Strand in Providence and when they opened for Metallica & GnR. I actually left before GnR FAxl, lol

Faith No More rose to fame when 80s type rock was dying and grunge was rising. FNM sits perfectly in this transition. When "Epic" was released, FNM was seen as the new next thing. Then Nirvana happened, which put a cap on how high FNM could rise. In hindsight, they were more revolutionary than we previously thought which is why they remain so popular and have achieved a sort of cult status.

Land of sunshine guys. That shows patton off a ton. Faith no more is kinda like tool in a sense. For me I listen to all of the parts equally. But in land of sunshine he actually has a small part where he hits opera notes. It's incredible

Fun facts: Mike patton said about this video: "it's like perfume commercial". Warner's spent the video budget on the clips for 'Small Victory' and 'Midlife Crisis', so that when it came time to 'Everything's Ruined' there wasn't much left, that is why video for "Everything's Ruined" looked cheap. It was band's idea to take this further and make a video as cheap as humanly possible.

Thank you my man requested this great song. Another song that showcases Patton is Faith no More's "Ashes to Ashes!" This is an Epic song by him. And it WILL BLOW your minds. The one thing that I can say. Mike Patton is his own kind of special. With his very own Epic flavor! I love his diversity. Mike Patton is still performing, and he's been creating movie soundtracks for more than 15 years now, too. It's not an exaggeration to say that he's a musical genius, even if he would probably laugh at that description. Then again, there's the argument that he might be a musical genius simply because he was never scared to take risks and just do the most bizarre things to make the right sound, or just a new sound. Maybe we would have a lot more geniuses if more people took risks and experimented instead of doing what their peers and predecessors tell them is the right or only way to do something?

This was the last album that featured the guitarist Jim Martin. Who claimed to not understand the direction the band were taking and didn't like what they were doing this album but you have to give him props for still contributing some amazing and very important guitar work to what is my favourite FNM album.

Much better showcase of his voice. Faith No More was extremely well known when their album The Real Thing came out. You have probably heard “Epic” and just not known it was them. “Falling to Pieces” gives that hip hop vibe you mentioned.

Not something I would recommend to showcase his vocals, but still a great song to illustrate Faith No Mores ‘poppier’ side (yes, this is considered to be one of their more straightforward songs, believe it or not). As far as how big FNM were... They were pretty underground in the mid 80s, but a lot of people from California knew them well. They gained worldwide popularity, especially in North America, South America, and Europe around 1989-1991 after their album The Real Thing and their hit song Epic was played on rotation on MTV for a number of months. They were definitely one of the biggest bands in America in 1989-1991, but after releasing Angel Dust, which was COMPLETELY different than The Real Thing and wasn’t ‘radio friendly’ at all at the time, their popularity lessened at least in the US... They still were popular overseas. By the mid-late 90s, they were borderline a cult band. They were never as popular as Metallica, Nirvana, RHCP, or even bands like Smashing Pumpkins or Pearl Jam, but they had their time in the spotlight. Anyway, FNM is more widely known and respected for being a ‘musicians band’. They influenced a shitload of late 90s and onwards bands and you can trace the creation of nu-metal in their album Angel Dust - for better or worse. Faith No More isn’t nu-metal, though... Far from it. You can’t box them into any genre, and even alternative metal doesn’t work but it’s the closest you can label them. Widely respected band from their peers, and an influential band, even though pop culture doesn’t recognize them as such.

Ok, for Mike Patton range, you should definitely listen to "Another Body Murdered" from the Judgement Night soundtrack. They pair with Boo-Yaa Tribe for the song and the creams in the song are Patton. RV, Malpractice, Easy, Last Cup of Sorrow are also all great vehicles for his voice. And then once you've done all that just dive headfirst into the whole Judgement Night album- it's absolute fire throughout.

Some Mike Patton reccs: smaller and smaller - faith no more. a really great song for his higher range. the gentle art of making enemies - faith no more. shows off a lot of his diversity and singing styles. god hates a coward - tomahawk (live version). this song live is just a really cool performance. Edit: looking through these comments and I love how I see how everyone has a different song that they say is his best and it just shows how everyone has a different opinion of what his best moment is.

Just because he has 6 octaves+, he's more all about the art of the music. He doesn't aspire for notes, but the creation. If you want to hear it, check out "This Guy's in Love with You". And anything of him you can find live, even better. You won't be disappointed.

For Mr. Bungle - there's a few really good ones on Disco Volante - 'Chemical Wedding' and 'Carry Stress in the Jaw' are both wild jazz metal fusions. I think with those as well you'll also get to hear Mike Patton go nuts, especially with all the scat and vocalize on Chemical Wedding.

Saw Faith No More open for Metallica in the late 80/early 90s a couple times. In Sacramento CA, Hetfield came out and played 2nd guitar on War Pigs. Dope.

I would also recommend Falling To Pieces, Edge of the World, and From Out of Nowhere. Those are from The Real Thing album. Zombie Eaters is another great one. Fsith No More is absolutely incredible, and it's Mike Patton's creativity and versatility that are his strongest points.
