Schenker is my favorite. Classical training, fluid scales and shred with the best. Tone, speed, and feel!!!! Check other tunes by UFO. Criminally overlooked! "Only you can rock me", "Too hot to handle", Doctor Doctor, "Lights out" "Too much of nothin", "Shoot Shoot". Many more! Michael was the GOAT

Such a great band, Michael was a guitar genius from such a young age. Never saw him with U.F.O. but did with MSG and in this you can definitely hear both his own talent and the influence he had on Randy Rhodes. U.F.O. Lost a couple of members this last year, RIP. Michael is alive and well and living in Brighton, England. Uli Jon Roth, who replaced Michael Schenker in the Scorpions, is also a phenomenal guitarist.

Guitar God Michael Schenker, hell yes!! 🤘🤘He's your guitar hero's guitar hero! The guy influenced even Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads even they were all the same age!! This guy shredded in the early 70s like nobody did before! He's top five lead guitar players ever. This live performance from 1978 (he was just 23) is legendary, a lead guitar playing masterclass...German perfection! The list of the guitarists he has influenced is infinitely long! This album "Strangers in the night" has been often voted as the greatest live album ever! He's currently celebrating 50 years of incredibile career, check out his latest release, it's amazing!

This is the song that caused me to beg my dad for a guitar, when I was 12. I just knew that I'd be a Rock Star by the time I was 18, today I'm 54, and I work for the railroad, but we've got a pretty tight bar band. We cover this, with my wife on vocals, she handles 90% of the vocals for us... Things could be worse

Hey TT's great reaction to UFO, I don't know why Michael Schenker wasn't recognized in the 70's. I've seen them 7-9 times since the mid-70's. After a concert Michael Schenker and Pete Way walked up to us and we got autographs, talked, showed him pictures from a previous concert. We had an awesome time. I recommend a song from the Strangers in the Night album called "Let it Roll". You won't be disappointed!!!

'Strangers In the Night' is one of my favourite live albums, ever. Michael Schenker was a huge influence on English guitarists at the end of the '70s (despite being German!). I was one of those. The tragedy is, this album was a huge success but Schenker left soon after the release because of bad dynamics in the band. He is known for his beautiful melodic solos. He played on one Scorpions album (his brother Rudolf is the rhythm guitarist for them). He has since played in the Michael Schenker Group (MSG). Incidentally, Michael Schenker still tours and plays this song. He is, if anything, even better than this now. See him if you can! He turned down many opportunities to join bigger outfits, like Ozzy's. He is a very enigmatic individual. I finally met him in 2018.

Mick Bolton was the UFO guitarist before the GREAT Michael Schenker! Michael joined UFO, and wrote this song, when he was 19 years old! Schenker went on to form his own band, The Michael Schenker Group, and their first 4 albums are hard rock gold! Check out Lost Horizons, Looking For Love, or Into The Arena. Other UFO greats, try Love To Love, Lights Out, or Venus!

They had a guitarist called Mick Bolton originally, then two guys who never made it onto a UFO album, Larry Wallis, then Bernie Marsden. Marsden wasn't allowed into Germany, where they were about to tour, so they borrowed Schenker from the band they were touring with, the Scorpions. His first show with them was a tv broadcast, he'd only been shown the songs a few hours earlier, by four guys who couldn't speak German, and Schenker being unable to speak English.

The first song I Heard by UFO was “Too Hot to Handle “ off of Lights Out in 1977 and was hooked . Bought that album , Obsession and Strangers in the Night live album . Bought their back catalog from the early years which is great but I will say lights out and Obsession are the two best studio produced albums with Schenker i.m.o. Schenker left and they replaced him with Paul Chapman , who , I find to be an incredible guitarist as well (maybe not the virtuoso Schenker was ) but I love the four albums he was on and Mechanix and The Wild Willing and the Innocent are incredible albums Anybody that followed rock back then probably is aware of UFO and even love them all my friends did and have no idea why they weren’t bigger. There are probably numerous reasons Schenker leaving etc. one that I’ve heard is chrysalis, their record label, did not promote them and promoted a band called “ The Baby’s “more. Interesting theory and may have some truth if you listen to a song off Obsession called “Ain’t no baby” which is supposedly the genesis of the song

I don't mess with trying to get reactors to do anything. UFO had a large fan base but most of us were happy to have them to ourselves. Michael Shenker is one of the most influential guitarists because of his work on Strangers In The Night. To this day, for my money, he's the best who has ever lived at playing melodic lead guitar and nobody has ever transitioned runs like he did. He goes from one lead into another into another seamlessly. It's more a shifting of gears throughout a lead instead of stopping one pattern and starting another.

Speaking of my dads favorites, he's always been a fan of a band called savatage that is pretty underappreciated just like ufo. I think you guys would love a song they have called "edge of thorns". If you really want to be up on your history of metal/Hard Rock U.F.O. is essential especially those early days with legendary guitar maestro Michael Schenker, the flying V viking too many classic tunes to mention. They are one the early often over looked bands who along with bands like Thin Lizzy form the very D.NA.of metal but for a real deep dive you have to check out fellow German virtuoso guitarist Uli Jon Roth from the early Scorpion days an original super legendary classical shredder.
@MARSHOMEWORLD

Michael replaced Uli Roth in Scorpions as well. (Joining his older brother Rudolph in that band) Of course, without the sonic clarity of the "LumberTron Microphone Array... none of this would have been captured with such pristine Burrell. As Hollywood mentioned Progressive music as we know it, was always full of wood.

The Blonde Bomber. Amazing! Thanks for reacting to UFO! My all time favorite band.

Although I have a bit of an animosity against Michael now that he's turned on his brother Rudolf, I have to admit that he's a genius on the guitar. He is up there with one of the best. He is worthy to dive deep into. His current lineup includes an acquaintance of mine, Robin McAuley, who at almost 70, still sings like a young man. But Michael is still bringing it!! Addition: The boy was around 20 here and he ad-libbed most of his solos so that not one was the same.

It's a 'kick you in the nuts' song,,,, and probably the most underrated riff of all time...

recommend "Cherry" and "Electric Phase" by UFO. They have many other really great ones. The albums are great to listen to all the way thru. You might find gold. "Try me" is a good ballad.

The original guitarist missed trip to Germany and they got Micheal to fill in . He was in Scorpions with his brother Rudolph at the time. Original guitarist joined Whitesnake after Deep Purple fell apart when Tommy Bolin died and Paice , Lord and Coverdale started over

Great reaction guys, nice to see some Love for UFO. Interesting fact, Michael Shenker's brother Robbie plays guitar for the Scorpions.

Great Kokina was Yokozuna's first ring name when he wrestled in Japan. His uncles were Afa and Sika, the Wild Samoans. He is related to Roman Reigns, Rikishi, Umaga and of course, the Rock, in fact were all cousins. And I think the reason he wasn't in the running was because UFO was more popular in Europe than here in the States.

The first shredder, started 3 killer bands, his first was with his brother Rudolph in the "SCORPIONS" then this band "UFO" and then The Michael Schanker Group - "MSG". Listen to "Victim of Illusion" on the first MSG and the WHOLE "Strangers In The Night" album by UFO

I've always had the impression that Michael Schenker and UFO were criminally underrated.(Heard of them long ago but have never heard any songs) The thing is because the criteria for those competitions is "Vote for the discography, not the song" I really doubt they would have made it very far. Of course, it does help Michael and his brother Rudy went on to form Scorpions...

Ufo was better than the big time bands. Screw the big time band's. They take a back seat to UFO!!!

Wrong he was in Scorps before UFO and has occasionally drifted back and forth over the years as well as on his own.

Their albums were musically and structurally superior to many main stream band like Van Halen of whom outside of their 1st LP got rather poppy and commercial. Of course still good but commercial. UFO's 1st LP, Lights Out, Obsession and Force It. don't kneel to the music industry. They are phenomenal. First few Scorpion albums are also true artistic meanderings. They're not attempting to create a radio hit which later they did all the time. Yes UFO did have their more radio friendly songs too.

UFO had an equivalent guitarist to Michael Schenker when they did their first two albums and then he quit and UFO went through a couple of guitar players before picking up Schenker while on tour in Germany. Both Schenker and his older brother played for the Scorpions too.

Those two first UFO álbuns are incredible but kind of progressive rock. Nothing to compare with later hard rock UFO songs

The thing about Schenker on this version, is that every note is relevant, and is following a specific path. To the 'less educated', it might sound like a blizzard of notes, but listen to the way the keyboards come in at different parts - that's not jamming, or freestylin', its deliberate and melodic, something that a lot of players just don't get anymore. I loved UFO with Schenker, I tried really hard to stay with them when he left, I wanted to have feet in both camps, UFO and MSG. But, whilst good bands, the sum of the parts just didn't hit the heights of Lights Out, Obsession, SITN.

hi guys ... Michael Schenker is still at it ... touring with his own group ... he's 66 and if you look on RU-vid by his name you'll see enough stuff of him playing live ... btw he was ioriginally in the Scorpions before joining UFO ... and Rock Bottom is a classic UFO track

He's around 67 and is touring.- Rock Bottom going strong. There's a video from 2021 (he was around 66) He started Scorpions with his brother and their first album came out when he was 16 (called Lonesome Crow). He's been one of my favorite guitarist for decades. If you ever watch him live, he usually just uses 3 fingers on his left hand - rarely the pinky. Love to Love is a great song. Lights Out too
