Yep, UFO was a well-established Space Rock band at the time they heard his work on Scorpions first album, Lonesome Crow, in 1972, and asked him to join them. He joined them, creating UFO’s golden age, 1974-9. Scorpions went on, replacing him with Uli Roth, creating their first golden age, also 1974-9. Both bands were hard to beat and its hard to find a weak track between them, in the 70s!

I recently asked my dad what bands he listened to from the 70s/80s that weren't really well remembered or well known in the mainstream, whether I'd heard them when I was a kid with him and forgotten, or never heard them because he listened to them before I was really around. I just wanted to hear the real shit the hardcores listened to. I always listened to fringe offshoot genres & punk rock, alternative stuff after the grunge era, lesser known nu metal bands, etc., growing up. This was the first band he thought of. I remember them from being a kid, but mostly from him having the cassettes. They're really pretty good for an era I'm not real big on in rock - 70s to mid 80s, and like a lot of more modern music, I really wonder why they weren't one of the super huge bands of the time. They were known, but not huge. They were definitely creative for the time. Listening to them definitely feels like discovering (or kind of rediscovering in my case, as I was so young when he used to play them) the vibe of the era for real. You can feel the weight of the moment in rock & roll in one of it's most expansive & influential periods. You can feel it taking you into a new era, but we have the foresight now of seeing where it was going to take us, which makes it kind of cooler. You can hear the building blocks toward the iconic artists & songs of the mid 70's through early 90's. Not really a big live album person, but that live album everyone always mentions, "Strangers In The Night", is pretty electric. Michael Schenker definitely goes off.

Breath taking when you consider Michael Shenker was 18 or so at time of recording - the lad must have been born clutching a flying V guitar - & let's have some love for Pete Way on the bass holding it all together.

Definitely recommend “Love to Love” if you revisit UFO. Has a lot of great dynamic changes and an absolute killer hook.

You react to songs off Strangers In The Night, their live album. It's generally regarded as one of the best live albums (the sound production is much better than what you just listened to) and Shenkers guitar playing on it is legendary. The solo on Rock Bottom is one of the most highly regarded and influential and the solos on Lights Out, Too Hot To Handle and Love To Love are also legendary among guitarists.

Seeing this pop up in my Patreon alerts made me SO HAPPY. Michael Schenker is a beast. Y’all should really check out Love to Love by UFO. It’s probably their magnum opus. Just make sure you listen to the 2008 remaster as the mix is considerably more clear and even.

Don't remember this song, but I liked it. Had me thinking of *"Rock Candy"* or *"Bad Motor Scooter"* by *Montrose,* or some older *April Wine* songs like *"Roller",* *"I Like To Rock"* or *"Could Have Been A Lady"*

What you are witnessing here is a 17 year old German kid, who joined a British Rock band who failed with their first 3 albums, when he joined and helped to write the songs on this album, his talent as a guitarist is profound, it is there for you all to hear. The guitar solo in Rock Bottom is astonishing. Michael Schenker is a genius guitarist at that age.
