Great video. I've been subscribed to you guys for quite a while and there are so many great songs I'd love for you guys to hear, but for now, is there any way that you can listen to The Vigil by Blue Öyster Cult? That song is amazing and I can guarantee that you'll love it! PLEASE listen to it! You won't regret it, and a lot of people love Blue Öyster Cult, so it'd get a good amount of views too. You can't go wrong with any song from this album, "Lights Out" is probably the most known song. The lead guitarist is one of the best. Schenker is known for playing a V, which has that bright, mid-rangy tone. I just read that Schenker played with a wah permanently half cocked to emphasize that mid.

YOU PLAYED IT!! AWSOME!! I am the guy who recommended this a few days back. Dont know which is which on your names but the kid on the left (from viewer perspective) got it right and for the right reason, he 9.5'd it and made the statement that "giving it's time it was made" as part of his rating and he is right. And ANYTHING classic rock (1965-1989) needs that perspective. I recommend this cut because it's one of rock's premiere LIVE moments and fearures Michael Schenker's ungodly tone and command of his instrument (plus the rest of that stellar band). And kudo's to the guy on the right, the long haired one for recognizing how great the drummer is on this (andy parker). Shows real depth in his musical taste and listening. The other reason i wanted you to feature this is how IMPORTANT this album is in ROCK GUITAR history and its right up there with Jimi's and EVH and Yngwie Mallmsteens debut albums and how they flat changed so many things. Now, this record is not on the change the game level those debute records were but it opened the ears and fingers of almost every guitar player after it. All your guitar hero's are directly or indirectly influenced by this album and probably have it in their music collection. There are a handful of TONE godz in guitar history known not just for chops but for the players tone and so many guitar players have been trying to emulate for decades namely Jimi Hendrix, Leslie West from mountain (famous song mississippi queen and huge influence on schenker) Carlos Santana and Michael Shenker and Billy Gibbons (early zz topp). These are the HOLY GRAIL of guitar TONE and dominate in places where tone is discsussed and guitar/amp/effects/pickup manufacturers base their info and products off of. These guys changed the game in TONE. A couple things i would like to add/recommend: First, what you guys are doing is IMPORTANT, on many levels. This music, ALL music should never be forgotten. Just because a song was done in a certain year shouldnt be a cause to not listen. Led Zepp made me find the blues guitar greats and how it influenced them and then me. Lynyrd Skynyrd (massive guitar chops and tone) brought me deeper into the classic british bands like creem, yard birds (that introduced me to jeff beck) and more blues and the great country players and artists (dont laugh, country players are phenominal and not this current crap thats out there), no, country, no eagles or the byrds or many great rolling stones cuts etc.. . I discovered classical music through uli jon roth, schenker and yngwie malmsteen and those guys COMPLETELY changed my guitar playing and phrasing and gave us SHRED). Turned me on to music theory, and had zillions of of musicians written all that early influence of classical, country and blues and jazz off as rubbish and old, YOUR music and mine would not be the same today, if at all. You guys are now seeing what made this generation so great and worthy of a listen. A point to concider: other people are doing 1st time listening stuff on the tube BUT....., you guys are on to something BIG and what and HOW you are doing it is what sets you guys soooo far above the others. I am 57 but when this music came out, i was your guys age or close to it. This music was coming at us buy the hour, all fresh and new and azz kicking. When i watch you two it is watching me and either a band mate or school buddy in those days firing up these albums, slapping the phones on and getting completely involved and blown away on what we were hearing for the FIRST TIME!! And i know there has been many others watching you guys who also get a bit choked up watching you two as it brings it all back, friends no longer with us, memories of our lives and what we were doing as younger people and BLOWN AWAY by the music we were hearing 1st time. Your show would not be the same with 2 balder, chunkier old dudes playing classic rock. I would be bored. But you guys are a HUGE part of the greatness of this show because of the pure innocence you bring of listening for the 1st time, just as we were when this music was released back in "the day". You need to keep this going because so many, young and old are loving it and your keeping this important music alive. You really have something special happening and dont be surprised if radio or tv gets a hold of you at some point. SECOND: Do an in depth episode just on your lives, Your music, hour influences as musicians. Your lives, school and hobies, chicks, upbringing because this will help many of us decide what music to recommend for you. And a bit of advice: dont label anything as "waste of time" or worthwhile. Even though there will be music recomended to you that isnt your cup of tea, but......, it may be a musical revelation to thousands of others and they run out the house go buy the cd/record as i am sure this album has done. Your opinion is great and its your right but dont lose the point on getting this music out there and keeping it alive. Music is important and its a huge part of many peoples lives and very deeply for many of us. Its right up there with religion and politics and treading respectfully (and i am not saying you were being disrespectful at all) is the best policy. Someone offering up a song or record thats dear to them and hoping you and others will feel can really be hurt over a statement as waste of time or unworthy, etc.... . Thats a fan killer. Just sayin'. NEXT: Work in an ALBUM show where its not just a song but a whole album. Tell me you were not dying to listene to all of bostons debut album after hearing just the first track? There are so many albums that deserve the whole listen rather than just a cut, like boston's first. And on many others the music on the record as a whole helps perspective on certain cuts. 2112 should have had side 2 played. I HIGHLY Recommend Black Sabbath's SABOTAGE as a full play as its one complete EPIC song!! No dead time between songs. Its an epic recording with great playing by all and ozzy's best singing.Tony Iommy's guitar playing is great with lots of tasty classical guitar in spots. Its frightening, melodic, angry, beautiful and heavy throuout. It's sabbath for sure but a more "grown up" sabbath. Most big time sabbath fans as myself have this as their fav sabbath record (including me). Plenty of cuts to recommend but they are more understood and magnified in context of the whole work. Killer cover also!! And to end this, have a LIVE ALBUM/CS/MP3 show like friday night live or something of that sort where a whole live album is played. Vinyl rules and always will but you have to stop and turn the record over which interrupts the groove so cd/mp3 is better. This album by UFO is a GREAT choice for that and rock bottom isnt the "best song" on it!! It has to be heard without interruption like the epic metal masterpiece of (early) Judas Priest's live set UNLEASHED IN THE EAST that changed metal forever and holds up to ANYTHING metal today!! The opening cut EXITER is the worlds introduction to Speed Metal. This was when Priest was the real deal (1978). And by the way, this UFO live album was also 1978. Anyhow, i am addicted to this show. I have a tad over 3,000 vinyl albums, a few hundred cd's of every classic rock record you can name and my musical tastes cover EVERY genre outside of hip hop. Please, dont hesitate to contact me for any info or suggestions. I am a music historian, professional guitar player, teacher, luthier, live sound engineer and owner of Sound-Sation audio recorders in arizona. Many of the musicians and even bands on your youtube site you play for us i know or have met. But again, i love you guys to death and you may not know it now, but what your doing and HOW your doing it is important. Keep it going and GROWING and never, ever forget......., GRANDPA'S ROCK!!! (grandma's too).

@Ben Hubar Hey man real quick I wanted to explain my “I’m glad this wasn’t a waste of time”, I don’t think any music is a waste of time, it’s more because him and I are super busy and we struggle to find time to record and this track was a 10 minute commitment and the video itself didn’t have many views so from the content perspective it was a “risk” considering we only post 3 videos a week, I hope that makes sense. Secondly I’m really glad you enjoy the content that really is a motivator for us to continue! It’s hard to find time for recording/editing/reading and replying to comments but its comments like yours that really makes me love that we delegate time to this amazing project. And thank you so much for the suggestions regarding content options and ways we can go with it I really appreciate it. I’ll make sure to remember your user name so I’ll try to reply to all your comments if I see them which I try to read all the comments, cheers Ben! 🔥🤟🏻

Michael Schenker uses a wah pedal to get the tone that he gets. He doesn't use the wah-wah in your typical sense. He sets it at a certain point to get the tone he wants and leaves it there. Then his fantastic playing style with some help from his Dean Flying V.... his style is really mind-blowing.
@bennyh4950
@bennyh4950 4 года назад
Thats called the "cocked wah". A wah pedal is just a movable eq, rock it toe forward, you get lots of trebble. Rock the pedal back towrds your heal you get liw end bass tones. He had a sweet spot he found that highlighted the hi mid frequencies and every gig he wiuld find it and leave the pedal as is. He had songs he did yse the wah pedal on so he started marking the spot on the oedals feame and pedal so he could quickly re set it after the song. MARSHALL AMPS made the originall jcm 800 with that cocked wah tone influenced in the tone stack. Michael used those for years. As for the DEAN flying V, thats a newer thing. He used Gibson Flying V's on this recording (a black one (surprisingly) that he put seymour duncan vintage 59's in. It wasn't until about 10 years ago he he signed on with Dean (mostly because he had sold off or lost the gibson's in pawn shops during his era of extreme mental illness and drug abuse). Dean offered go make him one and ghe rest is (current) history!!

@@bennyh4950 Hi Benny, the Gibson V he used in 1978 was white and was fitted with stock Gibson pickups which were Gibson T-Tops at that time. It was mid 1980's before he started using Seymour Duncan pickups. I believe he lost his original Gibsons possibly through divorce as he ex-wife cleaned him out. But you might be right - he may have pawned them !
@iltonwhite
@iltonwhite 3 года назад
@@mc5869 The White V was originally Red with the medallion insert #56, it's on the back cover of the Force It album, in 1976 it was painted Black and fitted with a Black pickguard and Truss rod cover, it can be seen in the roundhouse videos from 1976, in late '76 early '77 he acquired another Black V with chrome pickup covers and larger headstock , this guitar features on roundhouse video's from 1977, during 1977, his original V was stripped of the Black paint and was then re painted all White, the White pickguard was re added, and the Black truss rod cover was kept, the guitar remained all White until it was smashed after Michael left UFO, it was then repaired and repainted in the V2 half White, half Black finish as seen on the 1979 German leg of the Lovedrive tour with the Scorpions and later again with MSG. After being smashed for a second time around 1982 it retained the half Black, half White finish but has very noticable metal plates holding the headstock together.

@@iltonwhite Hi Ilton, yes I was aware that he had repainted the medallion model previously. Sacrilege in my opinion but I do like his Gibson V's ! I always suspected that the black & white MSG era colour were inspired by the V2 rockets ! I think I read in Guitar Player magazine that one repair was done using drum sticks ? I could be wrong about that though. He said the guitar sounded better afterwards. Interesting ! Personally, I prefer the UFO/MSG tone to the Deans.

I second Sails Of Cheron by scorpions as you guys next listen. Then afterwards, go see the video of it here on you tube. The history of classical/rock guitar is as follows: ritchie blackmore was the first to showcase it. But gave us just a taste. Then Ulrich (uli jon these days) Roth was discovered in scorpions and neo classical shred was born and his playing is STILL as good if not better than anyone else playing it today. Soooo melodic. Scorpions live album Tokyo Tapes is Uli Roth's spotlight if that era, save this for my recomendation of featuring a live album once a week or so as i suggested earlier). Then came Michael Schenker who was a student of Roth's in germany very early on). Michaels neo classical is most present in his melodies and scale choices but still has the blues and pentatonic flavor of the times mixed in. But MANY guitar players were first introduced to classical influenced playing by mr schenker (as i was). Then...... came the atomic bomb that sent neo classical into the stratosphere and put shred on the map and COMPLETELY changed the game and lead guitar playing in general forever. YNGWIE MALMSTEEN!! Like the man or not (i have met him 2x and both instances he was very pleasent and surprisingly funny!! Every single shredder today owes yngwie a great deal of thanks and as ritchie blackmore famously said in 1985, "thank god for yngwie malmsteen". He put the genre on the map, played like NO ONE else and made thousands of kids run out sign up for classical guitar lessons and buy bach and pagannini cd's. He upped the game by leaps and bounds and gave rock guitar the maturity it drastically needed breaking up the tapping trickery EVERY guitar player in that era was wearing out courtesy (and to the chagrin) of edward vanhalen. But, unfortunately, everyone copped on yngwie and wore out HIS art and His style. Yeah, thanks to the internet, there are thousands of jr high school kids who can play yngwie's stuff (as well as all the other current shredders) but i always regress to the inventors and innovators of neo classical & shred, blackmore, roth, schenker and yngwie. None of them sound the same. Make fun all you want of yngwie, the mans age, clothes, personality but it's one thing to copy, and another to INVENT. Every shredder and every fan of shred/neo classical owes it all to yngwie malmsteen. Like his shoes or not.
@EgoShredder
@EgoShredder 4 года назад
@@bennyh4950 Well said and I would add that Yngwie came from a family of Classical musicians, and had a good understanding of it compared with all the other clone shredders, who merely copied and pasted fragments into their playing without knowing or appreciating the origins of Classical music. I met Yngwie in 1996 and found him to be a very warm, friendly and funny guy too. Maybe his solo spot in the 1984 Alcatrazz concert might be worth a reaction video, as this hit the guitar world like an asteroid back then. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nMjzGqmY7sM.html

Listen to Rock Bottom Studio version. Complete different Lead break. Schenker plays by shear SOUL. His lead breaks during songs changes every night, depending on how hes feeling. He has his basics and plays the rest on felling and emotion. When he finally got Paul Raymond , RIP , his best rhythm guitarist and keyboards player things really took off for Schenker, he was called GOD by rock fans. Listen to Lights Out and Obsession albums to see UFOs Genius. They were thought to be the next Led Zepplin or Black Sabbath till Schenker Went his own way. They were on the cusp of Superstardom. Listen to Strangers whole album. Listen to Lights Out 2 lead breaks will floor you as with a lot of their songs and solos. Try Natural Thing to start the Live album. Hello Chicago, Will You Please Welcome From England U F O. Schenker did no flashy shit. He played standing there with his Black Gibson Flying V. Some of the musicians he influenced, Iron Maiden, Zakk Wilde, Def Leppard, Metallica, Pearl Jam and on and on. Thanks and CHEERS AGAIN. Keep digging into UFO, even after Schenker left, Paul Chapman and UFO made a few Great albums just not quite to the Schenker years. UFO and Schenker did a couple albums in the mid 90s.
