If by ‘skipped to the USA’ you mean after being one of the first entertainers to perform for the troops in Normandy followed by going to the states, Canada and giving free concerts all over the world selflessly raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the war effort for over 5 years with the UK governments blessing , then yes you’re right.
