It’s the standard, not the colour. What’s happened is the guard has started of as a long guard (king in residence) because he’s left the guard has been reduced to a short guard (no officer, standard, snco and trumpeter) So all that’s happening here is they’re riding back to barracks early. Standard is covered as the king isn’t in. Nothing unusual. Ex cavalryman who’s done too many guard duties!

Thanks for that. I was a bit puzzled. Things have changed a bit since my day when we would start at Wellie Bks and straight over to Buck. If they were marching along The Mall I guess they started at Horse Guards but there was only a small changing area under the arch sufficient for Colour Points and Ushers on the Troop. Or does the New Guard set off from the Chapel end of Wellie and go the long way round? I am using the wife's account.Our first date started with watching the Changing inside the forecourt. All the tourists gawping when you go to the policeman who checks the pass and lets you in. Seems to have impressed her as its lasted 48 years!

I saw the changing of the guard at Byck House in 1967. I was in the US ARMY on leave from Germany. I met my mother who flew to London from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As the horse guards were passing, a family next to us had a few kids with them. One little boy looked at us & said, "They rides 'orses, they does." We thought that was wonderful.

@@daughteroftheking4492 The Horse is a standard grey horse used by the Trumpeters. The Furled colour just means that the King isn't in residence. If he was, then the Colour would be unfurled. The 'eyes-right was made towards Clarence House it being a royal residence

Apparently, the ‘white horse’ incident was an administrative move. When the monarch is in London there is a ‘Long Guard’ and when the monarch is not in London, there is a ‘ Short Guard.’ So, there is no connection to death! Thank you for your programs, Celts. I love them. 🇨🇦

Thank you for this lovely film. I saw C of the Guard at Buckingham Palace in 1956 when l was 8 years old, I’m now almost 76. My father pulled up outside the Palace Gates, could you imagine this now!!! We all got out of the car + there were only 2 other families beside us + 2 London Policemen at the gates. l also recall some people on the other side of the road but not in detail. Having traveled through the night from Scotland, on route to Sussex for our holiday, l thought seeing them this close at almost touching distance, was the most exciting experience ever. To this day, the splendour of our pageantry is second to none. 💂‍♂️🐎👑🇬🇧🙋‍♀️

@@bizzybee6301 The Trooper on the white horse is a Trumpeter. They ride white horses as a matter of course. When they were in battle, the trumpeter conveyed orders with it. In the days of old when they fought on horseback the trumpeter had to be distinct so he could be found quickly and orders given to him to convey to the rest of the squadron. Thus the white horse. All that's happening above is the conveying of the colours (flag) Furled due to the King not being present. If he was, present then then the colours would be conveyed unfurled

I think you meant the salute to StJames’ Palace . Reminder St James is the official and original Royal Palace . It’s the place they announce new monarchs and also all Ambassadors are appointed to and from St James’s . Buckingham palace is relatively news.

I left England when I was 10. I made my first return visit when I was 32. It was only then that I saw that the railings around Buckingham Palace were topped with gold paint. I'd only ever seen them in a black and white film. It was on the drive to the train after getting off the plane. Lovely surprise.

The 'Eyes Right' is in deference to Clarence House which is a Royal residence. The Trooper on the grey horse is a Trumpeter. They ride white horses as a matter of course. When they were in battle, the trumpeter conveyed orders with it. In the days of old when they fought on horseback the trumpeter had to be distinct so he could be found quickly and orders given to him to convey to the rest of the squadron. Thus the grey horse. All that's happening above is the conveying of the colours (flag) Furled due to the King not being present. If he was, present then then the colours would be conveyed unfurled

In what video were you watching that the guard on the white horse was side saddle? I can clearly see a leg in a big black boot on each side of the horse, especially as he rides off towards the palace and the camera is then behind the horse. Also, The ‘empty boot’ is not ‘empty’, it’s the boot ‘wing’. Have a look at footage of the guards when they are off their horse and struggling to walk in the inflexible boots! 🤦‍♂️

@@thornecezanne7096as an American I do know about the boot, I am just not sure if it means the same thing in Britain with the ride and changing of the guard.

@@JoBloggs3rd-os6se you can clearly see on their ride to Buckingham Palace the the white horses rider has his coat between him and the boot which looks very much like there is no leg in the boot. The rider is also canted to the right of the horse which also makes it look like he is side saddle.

I love watching your videos from northwest Indiana. While i realize that the Metropolitan Police officers were not the focus of the video, I noticed that they have good taste in horses. 2 of the officers were riding appaloosas.

Yep, the colour stays with the king at all times, its how he proves who he is to the armies. Hes dead and they aren't telling us.
