Some more info about the cars: 1957 Rometch - body by Beeskow in Berlin. VW chassis with aluminum body and leather interior, Mercedes middle green paint. One of about 35 known to exist, unknown number built between 1951-1957 1953 Dannenhauer and Stauss - built in Stuttgart. VW chassis with steel body. one of about 20 still existing. 1958 Denzel built in Vienna Austria. about 77 made between 1948 and 1958. Box steel chassis with aluminum skin. These cars would win Alpenfahrt races due to light weight and Denzel engine - which was based on 36HP VW engine case, with numerous changes to the other main components and produced about 70HP. "turn signal" on steering column is actually headlight switch (from a citroen?) - turn signal switch is on dash. 1959 Binz double cab - one of about 700 built (starting with single cab and modifying) in 1958-1959 - this is 59 model - earlier ones have suicide rear door. Sold through VW dealerships until 1959 when VW began building their own double cab. 1946 beetle bought by serviceman in Oct '46 and brought back to Kansas in 1947 after the end of his tour of duty. Schwimmwagen was borrowed by Jay Leno for an episode of his TV show - he raced Jeff Dunham in another Schwimmwagen. Country Buggy was made for a few years in the '70s by Volkswagen of Australia. 53 Porsche cabriolet is pre-A, with A seats and A hood handle and A front skin with horn grills. Not restored. "wierd" white car is Tatra Tatraplan model T600. Originally with 4 cylinder air cooled engine in rear. Made in Czechoslovakia Green trailer is made by Wesfalia -has generator, siren, and PA system. Engine inside is 2 stroke, not VW. SP2 was made in Brazil for a few years - this one was restored in Paraguay. 1953 VW 4 door Taxi was built by Rometsch in Berlin for Berlin taxi companies. Unsure how many were built, but somewhere between 4 and 6 remain, 2 in US. Body is lengthened about 8 inches.
I hope you enjoyed the video. I almost need to do another one next year to get some more of the cars. I almost feel like I rushed it. So much great stuff there.
thank you so much for allowing all of us to view such the best collection in the USA...IMO....I dont think there is anything else like this other than in Germany.
I had a 1969 square back in the early 70's. It had a crank open sunroof, front disc brakes and fuel injection. Drove the piss out of it, and it never refused to start and run. Great car for back in the day. Thanks for showing this amazing collection!
WOW...what an amazing collection, you're right, I've never seen some of those cars and never knew they even existed. Thanks for another great video Mike !!
Very cool! The Schwimwagen was the first VW I've seen a primer cup on. Makes perfect sense because the 25 hp engine's carburetor does not have an accelerator pump.
Cool Place, please make sure you show us the interior of your oval, just want to see it after you installed the red used carpet. I bet it looks sharp. Thanks
That one car you car you couldn't identify looks like a DKW. They have a 2 stroke 3 cylinder water cooled engine in the front. Also the Trata is cool because it has an air cooled v8 in the back.
Thanks for sharing, Mike. Real pleasure to watch. What a collection. Whatever this guy does for a living, I want to know! That’s a serious collection. I thought you had a lot of cool cars 😆 Ben 🇬🇧
Dr. Ferdinand Porsche studied and worked for Tatra. It is believed many of his ideas were borrowed from Tatra to become the beetle. Tatra is very significant in the VW story.
The IFA (20:46) is a Soviet Union car based on the DKW, after the Second World War when the communists took over the DKW factory in Berlin . incredible collection!!!
yea pretty tight in that corner so I could not really effectively film it. Our shop I worked at in the 80s probably lettered that the dds and the logos on the sides.
Oh thanks there was two of them actually there I couldn't believe it. Later on in the video I found out it was air-cooled Volkswagen powered. I can't believe an old air-cooled engine would pull all that weight of a family
