Gotta give credit to Insomniac for constantly delivering in the quality department. Can’t remember a single Before You Buy for one of their games with a warning about game-breaking bugs or a “it could be a great game, but it needs some work”.
Deadlocked was my favorite as well. It was the least “cute” of the series and was pretty edgy but handled it well. Also space gladiator with all those armor, arenas, and gun designs were just mint.
Just started playing this game yesterday and…It’s really just an absolute MASTERPIECE!⚡️ The animation, the fidelity, the crazy combat, the action set pieces, the diversity of environments(the different planets), the story everything is just really perfect!😃👍
I haven't been interested in any games for the PS5, but this? This interests me. The part of this video where Ratchet pulls himself into another dimension to escape an enemy, only for it to follow him through the wormhole, is conceptually brilliant, and probably does need new hardware to ensure that it runs smoothly.
It’s actually the only letdown so far. The trailer made it look so amazing, exciting and meaningful while during actual gameplay it feels pretty tacked on. Still an amazing game though and probably the best looking one so far
I'm several hours into this game now. I can honestly say this is one if the most impressive games I've ever seen. It is incredibly fun to play, looks amazing, and has genuinely likable characters. If you have a PS5, you MUST get this game! Its straight up amazing!
@@Hrithik_Jayanth hard to say. Whichever is the better game is up for argument. But whether or not its better than another game, it's still worth buying and playing. I finished it a little bit ago, and I'm very sad my first playthrough is over. That makes it an amazing game in my opinion.
@@Hrithik_Jayanth it depends on your playstyle. Up Your Arsenal isn't even close to being my favourite game. My favourite one was Going Commando but now that Rift Apart has come out, I think Rift Apart is probably the best one so far imo. It depends on your preferences.
anyone thinking of buying... do it. Never played ratchet and clank game before but I just bought this game and wow is all I can say. Masterpiece im loving it. Worth the money
@@juanpablo8886 great choice. so far loving this game. only flaw I can think of is the enemys becoem slightly repeditive but with everything else like the great weapons and huge worlds it cancels it out completly
I too have decided to buy it today because of comments like this one, never played any ratchet & clank games but this game just looks so visually appealing.
I really want to buy it but in New Zealand where I live the cheapest version digital which is the base game cost $140 which is really impacting my purchase choice, I might just wait a while but even if I do wait I am going to enjoy this game so much, I’ve played almost every game in the series and I’m a huge Spyro fan as well.
I never got to play any of the future games, but my favorite is definitely Deadlocked. Despite it being extremely linear in a series known for its branching paths, the structure worked well within the context of the story, and the difficulty make it really stand out.
I'm an Xbox guy, but gotta love and respect insomniac. They are whay happens when you don't screw over the creatives in a studio. They've stuck around and made incredible stuff
@@gauravnegi4312 no it’s not. Not everyone can afford every console so they have to choose. The guy was simply stating that he’s probably mostly had Xbox but he’s had insomniac on his radar which is totally cool. You’re the one being cringen
Kit is my favorite character in rift apart. I love that they were holding her back in the trailers, It was a shock to see her and even more interesting to hear her backstory. shes like clank but the complete opposite of a "defect". and i really think if their dimension has a more capable Nefarious, Kit and Rivit definitely qualify as a formidable ratchet and clank. and seeing ratchet and clank help them get there is really what makes the story count
This game has blown me away especially when wearing headphones for that extra immersion with 3D audio and haptic feedback 😍👌 Perfect with no loading whatsoever
Going Commando and UYA top tier - Going Commando's story is a bit meandering and anticlimactic but it has the best worlds and level design, UYA loses that but it plays better and has a better story.
Going Commando was always my favorite of the classic games. I loved Up Your Arsenal too, but it just felt like it was missing something that Going Commando had.
@@pulseofme6884 I've heard they made it like a 16 hour campaign? unless you just run through and not admire anything about the game I guess it could take 10 hours.
Ratchet and Clank 3, I loved hunting for the trophies, it was before youtube was what it is, I loved the weapons, I remember they had a developer museum type thing you could go to, I can't remember the story for shit but I played the fuck out of that game, even bought a second disk after the first one got scratched and would have the flying through space loading screens repeat over and over and over lol.
I too bought a second disc because of the flying through space loading sceen. Also for anyone that experienced UYA online that was one of the best 3rd person shooter online games ever...they truly dont make it like that anymore.
I love the story to this one, not as much as the direct content but the subtle themes and nuances behind each event. The game even made me sympathize with Dr. Nefarious but not in "feel-bad-for-him" kind of way. I think Rivet has most of my favorite moments especially towards the end of the game. I hope she stays in the future games, and the series should keep going.
i got a couple bugs, nothing that kept me from progressing in any way, only a couple funny visual bugs, one involving the ryno. i got one annoying bug with one weapon where it wouldn't fire but would still consume ammo, but a restart of the game fixed it.
Spoilers for the first level ahead. During the juggernaut fight in nefarious city there is a portal that sends you to a different planet to carry on the fight, well the portal into the other world never opened so i was stuck traveling in the loading screen, it was quite funny
Personally, my favorite in the series is Crack in time. It was one of the first PS3 game's I ever played and it was my introduction to Ratchet and Clank as a whole. Its a little underrated and I think it deserves a bit more love than it gets.
I agree. My one complaint with the new Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is that unlike A Crack in Time, you are back to the old jumping in your ship and choosing another planet. I get why they did it, having two characters/groups makes it a bit difficult to use the really cool space system in A Crack in Time, but sadly I wish they could have figured out a way to do it. Sure, loading doesn't take several minutes like it used to, but having the ability to just physically fly around between the worlds made A Crack in Time feel far more real than many of the other titles. It is a shame that you were introduced to Ratchet and Clank with A Crack in Time as it is really one of the best that has ever been made. I fear given the new reboots that we will probably never see another game like A Crack in Time. Flying around and shooting at asteroids, moons, and random enemies that would pop up every now and then really was a huge pinnacle of R&C. I really miss that game and I hope someday we will see another game return to that format.
me too! A crack in time was my first ps3 game and first ratchet and clank game and man I love it. I always go back to ps now just to play it here and there
Scored this last weekend when the Black Friday deals went live and got my first platinum trophy in a week. So worth it. The game is delightful, beautiful, keeps me laughing, and implements the adaptive triggers really well, not to mention the plethora of great sounds that come out of the controller. I just wish a few worlds had a little extra oompf, but overall an amazing game. 9/10 AND it doesn't end with a frustratingly difficult-on-normal boss fight like the PS4 game.
I’m glad to hear that Ratchet and Clank is doing well. I haven’t played since Up Your Arsenal but it sounds like the last couple haven’t done incredibly well and I was worried the series might hurt cause of that. It does look incredible.
What I give this game credit for is giving Ratchet his personality back cause even if he isn't completely how he used to be compared to the 2016 remake it is a god send
My biggest surprise so far has probably been how impressive of a character Rivet has been rather than something technical. She is a memorable main character caliber (co-)protagonist. From experience I've learned not every developer gets this right. I already expected Insomniac to do incredible things with the hardware. I think Insomniac is legitimately the best PS5 developer. No one else is even close right now.
It's still very early, most of Sonys big hitters having even stepped to bat yet. Horizon, ragnarok, next ND game, whatever Bend is working on, theres still a lot to look forward to. What makes Insomniac so impressive is how quickly they put out these amazing games, like how the hell do they even do it?
@@RepublicofODLUM easy, they take their time and aren't willing to push out a undeveloped game like most companies, I would still be playing cyberpunk2077 if it wasn't such a buggy mess, same with how cold war had such a shitty campaign, by the time they fixed it, I already moved on.
@@SIXSENSE25. That's the thing though, as I said they don't really take their time. In the last 3 years they've released 3 awesome AAA games. Even with mile morales being scaled back thats an impressive feat.
@@RepublicofODLUM not saying you can't release a great game in a short period of time, but like I said, some companies leave such buggy messes, by the time their fixed, your not interested in playing it anymore.
@@SIXSENSE25. I got a PS5 so I'm waiting for the next gen version of Cyberpunk. I never pre order or buy a game before seeing what the state of the game is. If more people did this these companies might stop pulling this shit.
I just got platinum on the game today, and I loved it. Glitch stands out as an excellent character, with her own side story. Her design, her personality, it's so good. There isn't anything I disliked about this game
After playing the game, I loved it, but what makes me love it even more is how similar the plot is to phinneas and ferb: into the 2nd dimension. You got to a dimension where the villain is ruler, every character has a counterpart. The machine they use are both called the dimensionator (2nd dimension is technically called the other-dimensionator but still) and the villain of the other dimension invades the protagonists’ home dimension to conquer it. Sad thing is the nefariouses don’t sing a song about how they’ve found a new best friend in each other
A crack in time will always be my favorite. The story, pacing, weapons, etc are top notch. I miss the space ship travel in that game too. It really gave a sense of scale to the world. Plus driving around in a spaceship, jamming out to the radio, and visiting small planets along the way to my destination is literally the dream. I wish future games kept that feature and built upon it.
Glad to know this takes place after Into the Nexus, I was curious where they might go with the story. That being said if we can't disguise ourselves as Dr. Nefarious and demand his minions to get down and boogie... I'll just be disappointed. Really liked a Crack in Time, Dr. Nefarious was a riot and the gameplay was fun.
Huge fan here. Already platinumed it. The only bad thing about it, is that you don't really have much of a need to go back to most planets like in past titles when you get new equipment to traverse a new part of the world, each world can be completed prior to leaving. That's the only thing I think is a big change from the past.
@@poett8875 yea they play exactly the same, i think the og commenter meant they like the new character as a character. I agree, she doesn’t try too hard and is quite charming.
You know, at first I was a bit disappointed after reading the platinum taking 10 hours and the game being $70. BUT, it was damn well worth it. I took my time, explored and max out weapons, and got my plat at around ~15 hr. Game is fucking gorgeous, 60 fps with ray tracing and ZERO fps drops...not one single noticed drop, even on super crazy fights where there's hundreds of particles going on, and it was just a blast. At the end I was very satisfied.
@@cenciende9401 the humor used to be much cynical and subtle, and the stories were much less schmaltzy and sentimental. Compare the remake with the original and this becomes very apparent.
@@Gilgamosh95 agrreed. I think they’re trying to return to some balance after Sony’s decision to release the animated feature for kids. I think they can have some more entendres, but it’s campy without feeling childish.
The only issue I've had so far is Ms Zurkon (the weapon vendor) got stuck in "hiding" mode and I couldn't open her shop. I was completely out of ammo, so I had to restart the game which reverted me back to last checkpoint; I had to redo ~5 mins of battles to get back to the point I was up to. This fixed her bug. Apart from this, the game has been flawless.
Going Commando was my fav Ratchet & Clank game. Loved the weapons, loved the environments, loved the arena, loved rockin that Carbinox armor. Great memories with that game.
Oh yes I couldn't agree more, I love it when game reviewers mention that a game has photo mode. It is crucial information, isn't it? If a game has photo mode and a reviewer doesn't mention it then I immediately disregard their opinion and unsubscribe.
Nothing to do with the content, but really appreciated that you put caption into your video, it really help me so much for someone who have listening problem
Just downloaded the game last night and played around for 2 hours so far. Absolutely fell in love with it. This one is my first R&C game ever (apart from trying out a previous game for about half an hour) and I am now checking out the reviews. This feels so fresh and overwhelming.
Can't wait to play. I remember when the very first R&C came out in 2003. Bought it on a whim and I've been hooked ever since. One of my all time fav series. As soon as I get a PS5, you know what my first game will be!
Haven't played a PS console in years, but this game along with some of the upcoming exclusives are going to bring me back. Whenever consoles are available that is.. Great review as always Jake, thanks!
Haven't played a Ratchet and Clank game myself since I was a kid playing Ratchet Deadlocked. Back then I played through that game more times than I can remember. Rift Apart gives the series a breath of fresh air, and from what I have seen of the 2016 title, is far better than the previous title. While the game lacks the edge of the original games, it makes up for it with it's fluid gameplay and interesting characters. It is the second game I ever earned a platinum trophy for. Keep in mind though, you'll be playing as Rivet for the majority of the game.
I have considered this to myself that rift apart is such a great game but where I think it lacks is still in the way the writing is handled the developers have clearly stated how they don't plan on returning to the old way the first few games were written because of their disinterest in it anymore which still sucks
I’m a little disappointed you didn’t mention that no other game, yet, has ever come close to what the ps5 can offer as gaming experience, and I’m specifically referring to the controller. It absolutely, continuously, EXPLODES in your hands with this game: sounds, vibrations and trigger effects are INSANE. This is the perfect example of what game developers should do when upgrading their games for ps5
Ratchet Gladiator is my favourite, but this game was so amazing, the loading time between cutscenes and game play were so smooth that I almost died once thinking I was still in the cinematic
Just finished a full clear (meaning, all weapons (yes even in challenge mode), all collectibles, all armor sets)... took me about 5 days total playing 2-3 hours a day.. maybe a little more here and there. This really was a great game. I had some issues where the game would glitch and not allow me to progress. First one was during parade, the mini-boss ship there wouldn't do anything. Only way around that was to reset from last checkpoint and try again. Honestly... outstanding title. This game did the PS5 some serious justice here.
Looks great but I refuse to pay $75.00 for a digital download of the game, it’s just the principle of the thing, I’ll wait for the sale price like I did for Demon souls $30.00, Godfall 24.95, Sack boy $25.00, NBA 2K21.$22.00.
I can't believe how stunning looking this game is. It's probably the best looking game I've ever seen. And this is little more than 6 months into a new generation of consoles. Wow.
This is the first ratchet and clank game that I've played and it's not a game I would normally pick up. I'm really glad I did. From the characters to the story this game rocks. The graphics and ray tracing is absolutely amazing. Best game I've played on PS5 and best game I've played in awhile. If you can, definitely pick this one up. 10/10 for me.
download this because it was part of the playstation catalogue, first ratchet and clank i’ve ever played and OH MY GOD!!!! i’m absolutely blown away by this game, i became obsessed the second i loaded it up, ive 100% the game apart from the VERY last mission which i plan on completing in the morning. absolutely insane game, loved every moment of it. 11/10
This game really is stunning! Usually I dont take the time to really appreciate the graphics of games. But with this game, I found myself always taking a step back at each of the worlds. Always having that "wow" expression, at every little detail!
Just played the PS4 Remake for the first time and jumped on this game instantly! Honestly in love with it so far but I’ve fallen through the floor like 6 times in 2 hours of gameplay but it just kinda makes me laugh with a low stakes game like this. Loving the videos both here and the personal channel!! Keep it up!!
Overall I had a decent time playing the game. I don't think it was overly well written, some of the character beats felt unearned or rushed especially from our to new main characters. This is because they didn't really spend much time together at all before they had their emotional beat. One of the big missions on the cowboy planet was to get to the other side of a gorge, this was 70% of that planets story, but they literally came in a space shuttle they could have just flown where they wanted to go.. Clank accepting his arm seems like it was sort of agenda pushing and I honestly didn't buy his rationale.. he is a robot he has been broken and fixed multiple times in the series. If they wanted to do something like this they should have done it with rivet. the lack of enemy types was really annoying after a while. You are dealing with multiple dimensions and you only have 3x factions plus a couple of older animals from the previous game. It does make me wonder how much content from this game was cut. Also in regards to the game being less edgy I tend to agree I think this is mostly because they are writing ratchet differently. He used to be a bit of an anti-hero. Now he's just a hero. Also why does Rivit have a tail?
@@HachiroAE86 but this is a direct sequel to the older games. It's not even questioned in the story, ratchet would assume she's a guy because of the tail. I think insomnia likey forgot about it.
Going commando is my favorite ratchet and clank game! The racing features the planets and the scavenger hunts in the desert and snow were all so fun! A close second would be up your arsenal really love that game as well! I know I’m late to the party but I just got a ps5 for Christmas and I am excited to play rift apart for the first time!
Step 1: create an account on every retailer with payment info saved Step 2: Follow wario64 or the retailers directly on twitter and turn on push notif. Step 3: save the page directly to the ps5 purchase and have it on your cell phones home screen or desktop, easy to access and when you get that tweet, you'll be ready. Yeah, you'll get spammed witt a lot of bs tweets about wii u games no one cares about for a few days but when that PS5 is at your door it'll all be worth it. Good luck!
@@bootnad Cheers bud. If your in the U.S, wario64 is great, Lbabinz for Canada, but you can always just search twitter for ps5restock(country) and find someone. As I said, you'll be spammed with like 5-10 ads a day because thats how these twitter guys get paid, but I got mine within a week (Canada) and we have a lot fewer drops than the U.S.
i think the reason why Rivet doesnt suck, is because they didnt make her the opposite of ratchet so much... most games with this gimmick usually do the "polar opposite same guys"
After playing this game, all in all I agree with Jake. It’s a fun wholesome game but doesn’t quite reinvent the franchise for me. I’m finding there aren’t enough guns/exotic guns like previous installments, gun levels and upgrades are too easily obtainable, and the arena portion was seriously lacking. Most of the guns looked like each other and lacked the R&C flair (Sheepinator or Suck Cannon). The arena only has three Cups to compete in (Bronze, Silver, Gold) with 5 matches in each. By the time the gold cup was available I was so over powered that each challenge was a little too easy. I don’t mean this to sound negative because it’s not, but if I knew this before buying it I might have waited on it for a bit instead of playing day one.
This game was an absolute treat to play through these past few days. Kept me hooked all the way to the end. Also a treat for the eyes, and for my sides. The humor was rather spot on a lot of the time.
Brilliant game. Absolutely loved it. My only real complaint is how easy it was to not only beat, but how easy the platinum trophy was. The lack of skill point challenges was a real bummer too.
As someone who struggles to finish games and have never platinumed before, I enjoy the platinum is just a little extra after finishing the game 😁 I completed it on saturday and am only 2-3 trophies away from platinuming and I'm ecstatic
@@rodrigoquiroz A lot of veterans to the R&C series have echoed the same sentiments - even the hardest difficulty didn't offer much of a challenge, especially compared to previous entries. That doesn't mean people want the game to be HARD, but at least offer some of the same challenge we have seen before. The game being accessible to more people really is a great thing - with that said, more difficult trophies and skill point challenges for dedicated players would've been greatly appreciated by many people. I loved Rift Apart but completing everything 100% left me feeling like - that's... it? I have completed every R&C game 100% and it was one of the least satisfying completions because it lacked any real challenging or difficult trophies or skill points.
This game is one of 3 reasons I have PS5 (others are Horizon and Kena) and it exceeds all expectations! A little bit of open-worldness was a good surprise and one of many. But the best is how immersive the game is, you just can't stop playing. The graphics is insane - the foliage, the air, the details around you. Think of Pixelizer, turning enemies into a pile of multi-colored cubes that you can then smash away... And combination of Topiary sprinkler with Mr and Mrs Fungi leaves you enjoying the show and only adding a few lightning blasts for the complete fun. I have to say that, with all this beauty the game is pretty glitchy when it comes to exploring where you were not supposed to go. You get stuck between rocks, you fall under the city instead of jumping on a roof etc...It is annoying as after Zelda BOTW I really wanted to get to every possible corner of this fantastic world. Fair to say it is easy to get yourself back on track - reset to the latest checkpoint in pause menu works great (and the game saves automatically literally every 20-30 seconds). The game doesn't tell you that the last gold bolt in Salvali is not there till later, it only tells you you didn't find it yet. So, as in other games of the series - if you tried and couldn't find a secret - chances are (and they are pretty big) you will be able to do it later and only later. Because if you can ride snails now, one day you will also be able to ride dragons!
Absolutely loving it, Insomniac showing once again why they're such a great studio. I must admit I was worried with Rivet and first thinking to myself "oh boy here we go" but she was handled perfectly, superb voice acting, stunning visuals a great gameplay loop and solid story. 100% would recommend this to anyone.
She was also voiced by Jennifer Hale, who did voices in the Mass Effect series and more. She pulled it off perfectly. There was no moment where I felt Rivet was so overbearing that I wanted her gone, or anything. I loved playing as both of them.
I have a 3090 ftw3 and Im getting only 60 fps 1440p With custom high- ultra settings level of detail. High raytracing. Im amazed that this game runs so good on the ps5.
This game is amazing. A Crack in Time is still my favourite of the series, but this is a close second. It is by far the best looking game I've ever experienced though, and playing it was an absolute joy from start to finish.
@@kray3143 challenging (but not overly so) combat, fun weapons to upgrade, and a goofy and interesting story. That's all I need and always get from this series 😁.
The original game that was for PS2 was my favorite. And so far playing rift apart is bring back to many memories I’m really enjoying this game so much.
"So why aren't you playing this game yet?" "Socio-economic disparity." "What?" "He hasn't got enough papers" "Working people have to wait for a better paying job to fall out from the sky in the pandemic to save us." ... i fuckin hate being an adult lmfaooo
I hope they add an expansion pack or some type of multiplayer. Finished the game on the highest difficulty and it was surely a challenge for a R&C veteran. Loved it so much, everything was amazing.
This game is a blast it really looks great on a oled TV and shows what the ps5 is capable of. The controller feel is pretty cool I can pretty much feel everything your doing through the controller.
