Okay, so during Going Commando, I couldn't stop thinking about how when I played these games, I remember really focusing on upgrading all the weapons, but never having the problem Penny had where you're sort of encouraged to use one weapon at a time. I think that's because I played Going Commando like... one time when I was a kid, but I played this game over and over again. The five tiered weapon system is so much better at encouraging you to use all of your weapons, and the feeling of getting an upgrade not only still absolutely slaps, but now you get it five times as often. Man, this game is so good. I get why some fans prefer Going Commando, but this will always be my favorite.
I liked comparing the RaC trilogy to Kingdom Hearts on the PS2. The jank, platforming focus, and unique charm not present in the rest of the series matches both first games, and KH2 matches UYA’s reduced platforming and changes to combat- but that leaves Going Commando as the fascinating middle ground. It improves on RaC 1’s concepts without stripping away, creating this really cool dynamic meld. Just interesting to think about parallels like that, I feel.
It’s almost like the people in this world who should be heroes keep doing bad things and never get more than a slap on the wrist, thus continuing to do those same bad things over and over again. Penny, you said something about the political commentary not making it past the original trilogy. Let me present Exhibit Q to the contrary.
Isn't this game part of the original trilogy, since it's the third game? Or are your referring to something else? Edit: oh I see, I think you're referring to Captain Quark not just in this game but going forward? I hope that's true. I've not played Tools or beyond that game yet but I've heard Quark might get redeemed and I kiiinda hope that's not true coz I don't like him as a good guy lol Edit2: ohhhhh exhibit Q for Quark. How tf did I not figure that out right away?? 😅
@@bigbadgammagnome He does get "redeemed" by the end of this game. I like to head-canon that he is a persona non grata in Bogon, at least. In Solana, he was mostly associated with Drek and then helped defeat Nefarious, but Bogon remembers the Protopets. They do not forget.
@@elias.t yeah I've played almost all games in the series now (minus Nexus coz the only copy I could get my hands on was busted, and some spin-offs) and I gotta say... I really don't like what they did with Quark lol. He's funny in this game but I still feel like he's not meant to be good! He's still an asshole. He's never given much of a reason NOT to be. I never felt he was redeemed by the end, but maybe that's what they were going for. I just didn't click with it Like anything with him outside of the original trilogy has me rolling my eyes. He was fun to hate in the first three. He was a little tiresome after that. Insufferable in Crack in Time. And I'm just bored of him now. That's just imo tho people can like him, I just don't. I feel like they had to change Ratchet's character in order to excuse why he puts up with the guy. And don't even get me started on his role in 2016 lmao. Blowing him up with my mind. Hate that guy
2:19:19 while off handedly Qwark saying "Ladies and Gentleman, uh and Helga" sounds rude, Helga actually starts smiling afterwards so i'd like to suggest, Helga doesn't use female or male pronouns, and since she seems to have known Qwark the longest, he knows this and respects or he knows this and fears Helga's revenge
"there has never been any kind of unlock puzzle that has ever let me down or frustrated me or make me go on like a ten minute rant about how shitty it is" tools of destruction will challenge that for sure
What I find hilarious is that ratchet is constantly being punked, made fun of by people, or otherwise forgotten, (clank doesn't count, he has a best friend pass) but despite all that, people just absolutely trust him to get shit done. Think about it- Absolutely nobody knew who he was but as soon as he showed up, all the galactic troopers said "Look, this dude isn't freaking out, he's our sergeant now". even Quark, who loathes Ratchet (and vice versa), trusted him to get the job done in going commando and in this game.
I think Penny didn't quite realize, but when Qwark said "Ladies and gentlement. Oh and Helga", she was actually offended _until_ he added her. I'm sure it's just a dumb joke about the fact she's definitely not ladylike, but my headcanon is that she's non-binary and that Qwark was trying to be considerate. Okay, I couldn't write that with a straight face. 😂
I really need someone to donate to Penny at the same time she brings up the store with the message: "Hey there fluff ball!" By the 2016 game I am going to assume the game volume has gotten so loud that your ears bleed upon booting up the game 2:39:20 Penny you cant just KILL PEOPLE out of NOWHERE LIKE THIS, including ME
Penny's hatred of sniper rifles is enjoyably petty and I'm living for it. Honestly considering the sniper weapons in A Crack In Time it's absolutely justified.
@@malicetoaster1557 Nefarious is a delicate balance to try to strike, because he is goofy and provides much comic relief, but he is also a genuinely intimidating and effective villain. And I don’t think anything g has truly gotten him right since this game. A Crack in Time makes him a lot more of a joke and not as intimidating in my opinion, and as you said, the 2016 game played him almost entirely straight and that doesn’t work either. As for Rift Apart, I can’t comment on because I haven’t played it yet
2:19:19 actually, I don't think it's rude, Helga smiled when Qwark said "and Helga." While I'm pretty sure this is just some 2004 joke or something about Helga being a robot, I've seen a couple of people theorize that this suggests that Helga is non-binary and Qwark was actually addressing that
There is a fun secret you can do anywhere in the game if you do the button combination Circle Square Circle Square Up Down Left Left, in the pause menu screen. Doing the same again after just reverses it.
@@triledink ... I dont remember if it was the demo .. maybe lol. I do remember knowing the code so well though that I use it when I get my right and left mixed up lol.
@@theuone8828 All I know is on the Ratchet and Clank 3 marcadia demo disc at the end you get a screen showing a secret code for the main game. I recently played through it just for fun and found out about the code for the first time. The demo disc could come with any popular ps2 game at the time, but the copy of Sly cooper 2 usually always had a copy of the demo in it. It even says it on the back of the case.
this might just be me theorizing but do you guys wonder if qwark set those missions up on aquatos and tyhrranosis the way he did hoping ratchet might get killed in the process? considering the events of 1 and 2 i feel like it would make some sense if qwark still held a grudge
I keep missing these streams! It's so annoying, both my phone and my computer just randomly refuse to notify me when anyone starts a stream. I've missed yours, and all my other people I follow, too.
...he isn't. That's just the guy from Kalebo III in R&C 1. Unless you were being facetious because they look similar, in which case, forgive me for taking this seriously 😁
I like watching these but it's difficult to watch the parts where she harps on the things she doesn't like, like the sniper rifle. It doesn't need to be anything more than a passing comment, otherwise it's fun to watch
Deadlocked is a main series game so ya gotta play it before moving to future series, it takes place right after UYA. Lots of fans say that it isn't canon in main timeline or whatever but it 100% is. Please play it next, you won't regret it.
Insomniac also said Full Frontal Assault is Canon, it's more of a scale of what's more important under a 2 month time limit. If she is contemplating skipping Quest for Booty, that game's way more influential to Rift Apart than Deadlocked will be. She also said she'll take a look someday, just not this Marathon.
I love your streams, but...like, can you not talk about ACAB? Listen, I hate cops and the system as much as you do, especially with the new law having passed in Kentucky, but I try to get away from that stuff by watching your videos.
This game has political commentary about how “heroic” ppl do bad things and then get nothing but a slap on the wrist and then continue to do bad things. This game trilogy overall has a anti-capitalist message This isn’t the right place to look for something to help u avoid the things u don’t want to see. Especially for a streamer who said the Sonic movie was somewhat bad for featuring a cop in a positive life.
Hi there! I’m sorry to say but I have no intention of mincing words about my beliefs or my alignments if I can help it. The bit you’re referring to in this stream in and of itself is extremely lighthearted and, I don’t say this to be rude or mean, but if the kind of talk regarding that in this stream is too much for you in and of itself then it might be best to place your own boundaries wherever you might need. I understand escapism can be at times valuable, and I encourage you to find an outlet for that in whatever healthy ways you can! But it’s another thing entirely to ask me to compromise my own commentary and my own beliefs for the sake of your own individual escapism, and again, it’s just not something I’m down for.
@@SnapCube2 Thank you for responding! I can see how silly my request is, I suppose. Sorry, I don’t always think clearly before speaking. Besides, I think I mistook your musings about Toy Story as you being serious and not a joke...That happens to me more often than you think. By all means, though, if you wanna insult cops, insult them. ACAB, my girl. We cool?
@@ma.2089 Yeah, I was...not exactly thinking straight. I actually like political commentary like that, I was just mad that Toy Story was the victim (and failed to see that Penny was kinda joking).
