Absolutely maddening. I stumbled across this video searching for rattles in a Subaru. I bought a new top trim 2021 Subaru Legacy Touring XT last summer. $38,000. It has more buzzing rattles in six months than the cheap Mitsubishi Lancer that it replaced did in ten years.
This worked great on my wife's 2013 WRX. One down side is now that those rattles are gone I hear others I need to work on. Again great idea and great DIY vid!
This video helped out so much. I had the same rattles on the A and B pillars on my 2011 sti and I did the same thing as you did and it worked! Thank you👍🏽
I have been battling rattles in a 2016 Ford Fusion. It's been in and out of the dealer. This video gives me hope. Looking forward to starting the tear down tomorrow.
I'm amazed a company like this doesn't spend a few bucks on engineers and material to make their cars sound tight. Definitely not a car to own if you suffer from mysophonia. Plus there's the frustration of spending top dollar for cheap, buck-store technology. Blake, many thanks for this video. It helped a lot. I've now got to get to that pesky rattle around the backup camera, video screen in the centre console, then I will have finished the manufacturing job they should have done in the first place.
+Michael Kelly Yeah it's a PITA I'm sure you will find more rattles in the future. That's why my next car will be an Audi or BMW not of this rattling 💩.
I'm sorry to be a messenger, but almost all German cars have the same problems with rattling interiors. My current 2010 Mercedes E class has the most rattling interior I ever seen and it's a known issue. All 6 of BMWs I used to own had the same issues.
Great advice!... You could also take some alcohol cleaning pads and clean the area where you apply the adhesive. There could be some residue left over from conditioning the dash which could allow the adhesive not to stick as well.
Thank you for this video mate, I have the same issue on the A pillar and yes it happens when it's cold. I had it the whole winter last year and it went away this summer. Now that summer is ending and it gets cold in the morning, the rattle is back! :D
I've had two WRX's with rattles. Bought a new '17 and it came with many factory rattles. I was working with the dealer to fix them, and then I totaled the car. Called the dealer and told them not to worry, the rattles were taken care of lol. Replaced it with a new '18 WRX. This one still has a few rattles, but far less than the '17. Thanks for the tips, I'll try them out.
One tip that stood out to me while you were putting that strip on the side of your glove box is this: Think about where your start and end-point will be. Try to start in the least accessible spot and end in the most accessible spot. This way, you're not trying to cut the Velcro strip off deep in a narrow crevice that's hard to reach. So with the glove box in mind, start near the bottom of each run, and end near the top where it's open and wide...with lots of available space to work.
Great video. I started getting dashboard buzzing sounds while driving at low speeds on certain types of pavement after driving 9,000 miles. It's a 2020 Honda Pilot Black Edition which otherwise has a quiet interior. Thanks for the A-pillar tip. It might be useful to have your passenger try to debug where the sound is coming from by pressing parts with their hands or inserting temporary velcro, etc. Because the car acoustics are complicated by hard flat surface reflections it might be difficult to locate exactly where the sound is coming from, so it's best to keep an open mind when debugging.
Yes the rattle on my Altima has been driving me nuts since last October. I finally pinpointed it to 2 places. Same here...glove compartment also - which was an easy find for me. The 2nd annoyance boggled me, turned out to be the cover over my passenger seat belt assembly (covers the bolt) . The one side velcro SHOULD help this, I hope!
Just wanted to say 🙏 thank you, my car been rattling for a year now. Couldn’t figure out why or where. I was a day or so from literally going insane! Ty😊
Modeling clay/putty packed behind inner door panels where speaker mounts or even cracked panels are vibrating against each other. Did it on my X6. Video posted.
my drivers side door window rattles within the door when i close it (window all the way down). This doesn't happen with the other doors and they close solid. What stabilizes the top of the window when it is all the way down?
My only concern is the adhesive on the strips. If it gets too hot out are those going to melt and leave reside everywhere? I have had Velcro adhesive melt in the summer and its a mess to clean. Anyone had issues with the adhesive melting in summer temperatures?
Odličan video:).j Ja ima problem sa pronalaskom cvrčenja plastike oko brzinomjera u Mazdi 6 2021, ali mislim da je to veći problem za popraviti samome. Ako netko ima sličan problem sa istim autom, neka mi se javi.
Blake's Garage It worked like a charm! No more rattles on the front A-pillar! You've saved my sanity. Now that the front rattles are gone, I'm starting to hear other faint rattles near the rear C pillars. I'm going to put velcro on the C-pillars as well.
I have a scion XA not sure if it's the plastic on the dash meter reader. Or if it's the windshield wiper area . Anyone have a scion XA I'm wondering what's this rattle coming from
The funny thing is all of these rattles have been around more than 9 years among all the subaru cars (STI, WRX, etc..), subaru never bother to fix these things..that's quite amazing to me. Just look at the forum like nasioc, same rattle at same spots from so many people......quality control, guess not.....
+pazu1 Then the fact when you ask Subaru to fix the issue they just give you the "We can't reproduce the noise" answer even though its all you can ever hear. LOL
My favorite part about it is. We have one of the noisiest engines ever, it almost always sounds like it's going to implode on it self. I just did a lightweight fly wheel and I think I'm going to do this today, the amount of NVH (noise, which is translating into vibration) which is driving me absolutely insane because of rattles more than the noise that's created.... you would think they would just add either sound deadening or come with foam, or felt liners especially on these problem areas. At the end of the day it's all about profit though so I get it
Dustin Talakowski It's all because of love. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru... remember? Lol. But seriously, all cars have a rate or two. My Fusion had one and I couldn't bare it any longer, so I fixed it.
If you're in the LA area and can fix it I can pay $200 cash...if you can fix it. I've already been to over 15 places mechanic, stereo, body shop. Most don't even want to look at. One guy drove on freeway, pressed down on dash, but still couldn't fix it. Only makes noise at freeway speeds.
I'm about to tear my whole glove box out.. there's something rattling every time I drive and I can't figure it out. It has nothing to do with the AC or the heat controls that could be completely turned off and it just happens when I'm like going over 30 miles an hour that I constantly hear this
You can download audio tracks that you play a certain frequency that will make vibrations happen. Download a few of them and play them on your audio system cranked up loud then once you hear the vibration you should be able to tune it in that way you can crawl around the car and try to find what the hell is rattling
Getting rid of them is the easy part but finding them has taken me almost a year now and i still havent figured it out.. I should just sell my shitbox and buy a new car..
blake866 Meh not really. Pretty much every door rattles when I play music at loud volumes. Definitely didn't insulate the doors to make up for the power of the Harman Kardon system..other than that it hasn't been too bad..yet.
Ian Caple Its kind of hard to sacrifice the extra weight to add aftermarket sound dampening. I going to try to get some scrap material and get this thing rattle free. Or at least for about a week. LOL.
so i fixed all my rattles in the inside and somehow with my shitty luck.. my bumper somehow got loose in the corner an is squeaky af. i cant take it no more and zip tie doesnt work!!!!!!
mine rattles from that little black hub in the the top corner of the passenger side windshield.. dunno what that thing is? blue tooth reciever or somethin?
It's a Subaru for Heaven sake. What do you expect? Just get yourself a bunch of pointed wooden tooth picks and jam them in the cracks. Looks terrible but works well.
