The nurse deal is terrible but it’s often overlooked that he got that much money because he was one of the top 3 defence men in the Covid season. He was signed to a bridge deal before that so that’s why he got so much money.
@@somerandomidiot1333 Every team has a terrible a contract on their roster, Nurse is a top 4 dman on any team so his contract is somewhat manageable. At least while Draisaitl, Mcdavid and Bouch are waiting for their extensions. Its gonna be a problem after that
@@somerandomidiot1333Nurse got paid the market rate when his deal was up, the precedent was set when Seth Jones, Dougie Hamilton & Jacob Trouba all got big money similar amount as he did. They're ALL right hand shots. The elusive unicorns coveted elite position etc Yet can you say Jones or Hamilton are better than Nurse? Trouba is probably the only one available now because there's talk that the Rangers are contemplating a big move. If the Oilers had cap space anyone of those other 3 could be our 1st pairing rhd over Bouchard in a ideal world yet we have to deal with reality. If Larsson's dad hadn't of died here our # 1 rhd or #2 would be solid.
I thought Ken did a good job. Pandemic impacted the salary cap in ways no one planned for and lost key pieces to circumstances totally out of his control. Added some brilliant pieces and kept the ship fairly steady through rough waters. Thanks Ken. 👍💙🧡
I know Ken wasn't perfect but he was the best we had in decades and had a huge impact of getting us to one goal away from winning the Stanley Cup. Let's instead gamble it all away with "Not even sure who we can hire at this point". Why... solely because my ego can not take winning the cup with someone that I didn't hand pick. That is an absolutely ridiculous and dangerous reason. Because of this poor decision, it's all on Jeff now.... every trade, signing, and performance of this new amazing GM is going to be scrutinized. If we don't at least make it to the finals next year, I will be demanding Jeffs removal in order for them to get my season ticket money. That is how poor and necessary I believe this decision was.
I'll be honest. I truly don't think Jeff liked Ken. He likely respected the work he done, but he's not his guy. Now I say this off the short videos on this channel. But I don't think Ken was Jeffs cup of tea. You can just feel it. Good luck Ken - Thanks for the run!
I was wondering that myself. My guess is that probably came to light with firing Woodcroft and hiring Knoblauch. I hated to see Woodcroft go, but results are hard to argue with.
@@ProtagonisTeneT did you listen to the video? Jeff literally says that Ken mentioned he'd want his own guy in. Maybe you've never seen the videos of them together. But you can tell it's awkward and their demeaner is uncomfortable.
You are out to lunch! We were so close to winning the Stanley cup this year and made playoff pushes the past few years! No credit to Holland? Holland has outperformed 95 percent of GMs over the last 5 years
Nurse was a huge mistake, 9.3 for a 3 mil player, other than that he did well, get rid of him, free up a ton of bad money, would make room for needed players.....and seriously any 3-4 mil defenseman easily replaces him
I am super happy Ken’s time is up. A lot of respect for him for what he did especially for the Detroit organization but his time has passed and his GM strategies doesn’t really work in today’s NHL cap market. He made 2 really good moves which were pointed out in Hyman and Ekholm. He also made some solid signings in Janmark, Kane and the Nuge extension at a reasonable cap hit. The rest of his moves didnt really help the team from trading 2 high picks for Athanasiou, to the albatross Nurse extension, Ceci signing for such a long deal, Jack Campbell, etc. I even thought Warren Foegele at 2.75 was an overpayment at the time for a third line winger
I have way more faith in Jackson than Holland. Lots of casuals in the chat today who think Jackson will be bad lol. Probably a lot of Holland supporters who really did nothing in his 5 years here other than pull off one Ekky deal. Hyman and Kane were always coming to Edmonton. Other than that he never replaced Nurse-Ceci and it cost us 3 playoffs in a row smh
After the knob signing I have faith this guy brings in an amazing gm he can work well with and is forward thinking. The knob hiring was clearly done with a ton of statistics and research behind it. They knew he was a hell of a coach and would fit the oilers.
So... you knew Holland wasn't returning and decided to wait the entire season before approaching anybody on your GM target list? Which means going into a draft without a GM, and delaying contract talks with one of our best players (not to mention the rest of our UFAs/RFAs) until you finally do find someone? Which means they will immediately have a ton of contract pressure to deal with in a shortened amount of time. JFC. 🤦♂
I think he was doing a lot of the work behind the scenes. The coaching move was his decision Knoblauch got Halloway and Broberg definitely got better playing time with the move.
Everybody else skips the dishes Pal, but I dont, great job of bringing a Poison Pill called Mumford into the dressing room, a Trojan Horse that derailed everything, Well done indeed. Hope you bring him back again. Moma2 says hi.
Jackson will decide who will be the next GM....after he asks McDavid. If Leon is not re-signed by say November everything will start melting down - no rush tho
Why you guys always negative about everything. The dude brought in Knobs they went to game 7 of the finals. There’s nothing negative about that. God I swear you guys just live a depressed life try being positive for once.
@@ryans413 ………I have been following this team since the early eighties…..we have managed to hire a couple of builders but mostly destroyers. Holland is OK in my books, but this guy gives me no confidence……he was a player agent!
I dunno what it is about this guys, maybe because he's a Lawyer or an ex-agent but he just gives me bad vibes. Hope he doesn't run the ship into the ground.
Ken Holland is a Money Ball example of the "Halo" effect. In short, his experience and gratificaction was under the Little Caesars empire in Detroit. He was a goalie in the NHL and his first professional mgmt. position was as a Goalie Coach with the Red Wings. Did he make it as a GM for 4 Stanely Cups? Yes, but again, it was a Halo affect for him in Detroit. The hard work was already done by his predecessors. Overall he was a failure for the Oilers and has essentially handcuffed the Oilers from getting a Stanely Cup. Ken, it's time to hang up your goalie skates.
Just listening to this guy makes me want to gag. Ex Toronto assistant GM who hasn't done a damn thing since 2010... Has never worked with a winning team. In fact, the only actual experience he has is with the Leafs.... A team that for years, has been and still is worse than the Oilers. OEG could hire someone off the streets of Edmonton that could do a better job and I'll stick to that until he proves himself.. But good luck.
@@slushybelt8663 Relax he is 39 at his age HOW many offers is he going to get on a open market? He IS AS GOOD AS GONE BECAUSE OF His AGE. Not many forwards can still play the game effectively at that age. The market & father time will push him out of play like it does eventually to everyone eventually every year we see players who don't get offers or pto's. Think about players who we didn't see play last year Phil Kessel. Edit. Btw there will be a new GM who will make that call & along with the coaches. smh
It’s not his fault. This was probably planned and organized without so much time in hand. He looks tired so he must have had to work on all of these issues in a very short period of time.
