What happens in this Ray extract ?
Ray's (Jamie Foxx from Django Unchained and Baby Driver) doctor asks him to quit drugs if he wants him to give a positive report to the judge. Ray imagines he has a conversation with his dead mother (Sharon Warren), who chastises him for letting drugs cripple him. Ray tries to apologize, but his mother won't hear of it. His little brother George appears, telling Ray that he doesn't blame him for his death. In 1979, Ray permanently quits heroin and receives his proudest accomplishment: the state of Georgia officially apologizes to Ray and makes "Georgia On My Mind" the official state song.

He loses his sight at 9 years old, and his mother (Sharon Warren) advises him to avoid using this as an excuse. He grows up in the Seattle jazz scene, facing addiction and infidelity issues in his life on the road. With the support of his wife (Kerry Washington from Scandal and Django Unchained), he redefines the soul genre and inspires a whole generation.
