A last attempt to catch a sizable fish for the comp, fishing in the Bristol Channel and a lovely beach on the North Devon Coast we attempt to catch a good sized Small-eyed Ray or a bigger Spotted Ray for the points table, after catching a really good Smooth-hound the episode before we were looking forward to a great session, stay tuned to see how we get on.
Just a quick note of thanks to South-West sea baits for running this comp and we look forward to the next one.

Kev, how do you decide wether to use up & overs or pulleys ?

Good question that, basically you need to ask yourself a few questions 1. Do I want the bait on the floor or just off the floor and moving around? So that depends on what fish you want to catch, 2. If your fishing a beach like chesil beach your line will be at a steep angle so if your using a pulley rig it will be off the floor and most species like Cod or Rays want the bait nailed to the sea floor, so use an up and over or a pulley dropper to let it stay anchored. 3. If your fishing a flat sandy beach at distance the line will be at a shallow angle so it doesn’t really matter what rig you use as it will basically be laid on the floor anyway but a pulley is less likely to tangle in the surf, I will try and clear that up in the next video so I hope that makes some kind of sense.👍

Cheers Kev, I've used pulleys, up & overs and droppers but never known if I'm using the right one. I love your vids you make it all look so easy, I'm still waiting to get my first small eyed so fingers crossed. I've heard challaborough is a good bet,I know a few rock marks like mothecombe, seasons point & starehole bay but don't fancy fishing a rock mark on my tod at night.

They are all good marks on their day, it does seems as though the rays are around more these days even through the warmer winters.
