I know no one's gonna read this but I gotta say, I found this keyboard online for cheap cuz it was "broken" (in fact, it needed just some cleaning) and i googled it and found this video, just because Linus reviewed it like a lifetime ago, I decided to buy it, clean it and now use it, hahahahahaha, hello old-school RU-vid :D
I got mine today, I`m using it to write this :) I love the sound, the backlighting and the anit ghosting :) I have improved my game by buying this, I used to use a cheapy key board and it was terrible. Now having this.... I just love it! :)
I just found one of these in my attic and decided to restore it and it sounds beautiful, I love the sounds of the switches, 7 years ago. This feels like a couple months ago, thanks for the video it helped me restore it and understand the features since I didn't have the box
Just got mine about an hour ago...I fucking love this thing. I don't understand why this sound makes me so happy, but it does. It also makes you feel like your some insane computer hacker. My g/f hates me though because the sound of the keys....Too bad I
Just for reference, I’ve had this keyboard for 8 years now. And it STILL WORKS PERFECTLY. LED’s haven’t even faced. Insane build quality and it’s crazy. Super grateful for this investment
I have this keyboard for almost 6 months and zero problems and i look forward to every time i get to use it. In my opinion its the best in terms of functionality and asthetics
I have the 2014 version and it's the same way :/ not too bad though. Ali plugged in my headset and just put up the rubber feet and had the cords go underneath the keyboard to the other side.
My wonderful son got one for free from his boss and donated it to me. It needed a good cleaning and looks and works like new now. The feel and sound of this beast of a keyboard remind me of the ancient mechanical IBM keyboards. It has replaced my Corsair Vengeance K90, which is an awesome keyboard in its own right but lacks the heft and clunk of the Black Widow. Paired it with a Razer Basilisk V3 and the combination works very well for both gaming and office use. I will have to track another one down for backup: I don't think I have ever enjoyed a keyboard as much as this 9 year old behemoth!
***** because razer is using shitty-ass chinese switches in their newest models. thus, the keyboards tend to be less money-effecient and generally trash af. i bought the corsair k70 though. it's amazing, you should buy it as well.
I'm using the 2012 without backlight and it's still fantastic. Never had issues with it and it stays clean! It's the perfect keyboard. This almost certainly proves that keyboards haven't come far in the last 7-8 years. Yes there has been a shift in key-types and RGB, but the core of the boards are still the same! You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on keyboards.
i still have this keyboard that i bought back in 2013. it's January 2019, and it is still holding up just fine. However cleaning this keyboard is a pain in the ass, other than that i still am enjoying it.
I've owned both the Blackwidow Ultimate 2012(Blue lighting) and this exact 2013 model, and BOTH have broke out of thin air. One day they worked fine, next day, no power to the keyboard, no lights, yet I plug in a backup keyboard into the same usb port, and it works perfectly. Shame because I loved this keyboard ( I just wish they offered it with Cherry MX Red switches instead of blues (Reds afaik are better for gaming due to a quicker response time on each key stroke, and not as loud but still clicky). Now I have a CM Storm Mechanical short keyboard(no numpad) and it's doing well so far. Hoping it stays that way. I will say my Deathadder 2013 is the best mouse I've ever used for gaming though.
Just got mine through the door a couple of minutes ago and just plugged it in, confirming that it has 20 brightness levels and not 15. This keyboard is also a LOT brighter than what it seems in this video, it's a lot brighter than a Lycosa or a Microsoft sidewinder X5/6. If anyone is considering moving from a normal keyboard to a mechanical keyboard and have the budget to do so, i would definitely recommend this keyboard. It feels amazing and it looks amazing and the mechanical keys are bliss.
Just received mine in the post today!!! After watching this video, Linus got me hooked on this keyboard and it is really amazing! Each key press has that satisfying click on those Cherry MX Blue switches which can be quite noisy if you type a lot but that is the only negative I have with this keyboard! Get it if you have the cash!
I would get the Razer Black Widow Ultimate 2013, it's great, it's very strong and i haven't had any problems with it, personally i love the sounds of the keys being clicked as i type this to you, it's a personal favorite
I've been using this board for over 6 months and it is the hands down best keyboard I've ever used. Really solid feel, perfect function, dripping with quality, totally love it. Bought this board because my old board couldn't keep up with my typing speed. This one delivers the goods, big time. Might be nice in blue or red backlighting, but the green is also gorgeous.
#2020 gang! My keyboard is still going strong! Such build quality, much wow. Even survived an orange juice spill (not smooth) and full disassemble required for cleaning. Its a tank of a keyboard
roberto alvarado Same :D When I unboxed it I tried to do it carefully...I did it like I am defusing a bomb or something, but he was like "Let's do a little bend test" xD
He is referring tot he switch that is being used. Mechanical keyboards have switches for the keys, each switch is identified by a color, black, blue, red, brown, etc... and each one has it's own actuation point. Others are quieter, blues are among the loudest.
Some people, like me, doesn't always use just headphones or just speakers, I switch between them, speakers at day and then I go to headphones at night so I don't annoy anyone with my music, having the ports diretly in the keyboard makes the shift so much easier than having to let go of my comfortable position and go to my computer to change the cords. And for the USB, you can never have too much USB.
I have this keyboard. If you contemplating weather or not to get it based on it being loud when you push the keys, or that click you feel for gaming, don't. It's a nice keyboard, love typing on it, even for gaming.
I was really impressed with the lightning on the keyboard when I plugged it in...it's so bright...I love it! This whole keyboard is just amazing. Razer knows how to make good keyboards :D
Here's an honest review of the keyboard. I upgraded from a crappy old membrane keyboard and i bought this one from eBay for about £40. It took me while to get used to the layout of the keyboard because it's quite different to how a normal keyboard would be, for example the 'a' key is quite close to the 'caps lock' key and when i first used this for about 4 hours, I found myself accidentally clicking it. But that was very minor and probably my own fault. Another problem I found was the keys and how small they feel. This yet again is probably my own fault because of me using the membrane keyboard which had wider key caps. But apart from those two minor things this keyboard is perfect! It will just take a while to get used to if you have never used a mechanical keyboard before.
I have not had the best experience in recent years with Razer products but I do own this keyboard, and they are extremely well constructed and thought out. The extra keys are extremely useful for both gaming and work/productivity. Honestly, if you are looking for a single keyboard for your computer, you really should get this board.
OMG I got this today and I already love it, it is not like my old Logitech so I'm not all to used to it yet but I love the feel of it and how smooth it is. Now all I need to finish my full Razer gaming setup is one of there mouse pads and one of there mics
i personally switched from a Logitech to the black widow ultimate and i love the response of this board no issues with being faulty and it gets used a lot. Just saying go with what you are comfortable with, unless there are glaring design flaws.
I think you should re-review this. You never took it apart to show the shitty underbelly of this particular model's design flaws, the biggest of which is that you can't separate the switch board parts to clean them without very specific tools. the boards are practically riveted together. you get any liquid in this thing, you're screwed, because you can't separate the parts to properly clean them and remove any residue that may be conductive and causing issues like keys making multiple contacts in a single press, (So you gget ppprobleeeems llike the kkey-ppppressessss dddoinggg ttthingsss llllllike tttthiss over time). Please re-review this old tech and give it the shakedown it deserves.
My friend has one of these, and he bought a new board a few months back. I decided to borrow his old one (this board) yesterday, to try out a mechanical keyboard (I'm used to the Microsoft branded rubber domes). The backlight was way too bright, and I was too dumb to work out the keyboard brightness button myself. Thought "Hey maybe Linus has done a review and pointed them out", and sure enough. Thanks Linus, saving one idiot from keyboard backlight glare at a time.
There are many silent switches. Clears, blacks, reds, and linear greys are just some....browns aren't even as quiet as some switches because they have a tactile bump that some people argue is audible.
Regarding the "click" sound, Im using some O-ring Dampeners (Max Keyboard Cherry MX Rubber O-Ring Switch Dampeners 50A - Black) and they are working really well. Also, this keyboard can be used with a wireless mouse connected to the usb. Works great.
The Blackwidow uses "blue cherry keys" which is one specific set of mechanical keys. There is different mehcanical keys, and they are listed in colors. So they all feel different, and sound different.
Yes it can. I have a Mac and I use it on OSX and on the Windows partition and works flawlessly on both. I use a keyboard when i connect it to an monitor.
Razer has recently introduced a ranking system for its gaming peripherals: basic kit is classed as ‘essential’; better kit as ‘expert’; and the finest in fragging accoutrements are ‘elite’. With a name such as BlackWidow Ultimate.
Depends on how thick your door is, how far away your family members are from your room, and how hard you press the keys. It shouldn't be too much of a problem, but it really varies on your environment. If you really want this keyboard, I would keep a old generic one, and switch it over once it's night time. I do this with my blackwidow and Steelseries 6gv2.
There are 4 primary types of MX cherry keys: blue, red, brown, and black...the blackwidow has blues, which are louder, than the other types. Blacks and browns are quiet. I'm currently using a cherry MX brown keyboard.
The 2013 ultimate is only green. It worked out great for me since I have a Gigabyte G1 Sniper 3 and went with a green themed PC build. Its a very cool green as well.
Just got this keyboard today. Love the mx blue switches, although theyre a lot louder when you're typing away at full speed! No issues with drivers (on windows 8.1), looks and feels great. Would have liked a wrist wrest for the price
I have had this keyboard (not the 2013) for about 2 years with no issues. The only thing is it is VERY GLOSSY AND GETS A LOT OF FINGERPRINTS and other stuff.
Depends on preference, the steelseries 6Gv2 is extreemly well built, uses black switches and is a basic keyboard(only some media keys), and the black widow is blue or brown switches and (personally) isnt as well built, I think the blacks are better for gaming as you dont have to press them down and hit that activation point, instead a slight push and they are activated, it makes things like double tapping really easy, but as I said its really just down to preference :)
could someone tell me the best choice. I'm looking for a fps gaming keyboard i thinking deathstalker or blackwidow, what would be my best choice. (p.s are their any jacks to plug the headphone and audio jacks in at the back of my pc?
The cheapest is the Actosa which cost 50 usd, second cheapest,Black Widow tornament edition(no numpad/LED light).80 usd. You have to click store first, and click on the keyboard,it will show you all the keyboard and price,or if you click product then go into they keyboard,it won't show you the price but the specs instead, from there, you need to click buy now to see the price
I recently picked up one of these at a thrift shop for $13. I wish it had RGB LEDs. But that's by no means a deal breaker; especially given the price. I love the macro keys. Very handy for GIMP.
Dude I love your videos, and the short-cable mouse? That's a must, and long due! Genius! I was going to buy another keyboard, but you sold me this one. Razor should hire you! Good luck!
ill help you! you plug in your 2 usb ports into your laptop/pc. then you plug in your 2 audio and microphone jacks. i believe the audio one is green and the microphone one is pink. hope this helps!
