I never get tired of watching/rewatching all these Gillette history videos. Love this channel for getting me back into the hobby a couple weeks back. Have ordered through R.E. twice now, and both times have been extremely fast, and the customer service was above and beyond. Definitely recommend shopping with them to anyone reading this. Cheers!

Dear Matt, Thanks for another history video. Always interesting. Diana and I haven't seen you since we had lunch with you at your home with Roy and Marilyn Johnson. I still have all my Gillette collection but haven't bought items since Roy died. We hope you, Margaret and the family are well. Happy memories and best wishes. Peter Woods, Sydney, Australia.

Love the history of Gillette razors. I have yet to get back to Dad's house and retrieve the Gillette razors in his medicine cabinet. Maybe a Regent Tech in there??????????

Good to know Matt, I have a Regent with no PAT info and the leather box in pretty good shape but of course, no cardboard box. I think this one and my double ring with no serial # are my only “belongs in a museum “ razors. Nice to see a new Archive video, I’ve watched them all and you have been a major source for Gillette history for me.

Oooh, Matt, you scared me! I went straight over to my own Regent Tech to make sure it didn’t have patent info stamped inside the blade tray. We’re good! I consider myself very fortunate to own a true Regent Tech in fabulous original condition in its original leather & wood case (with blade bank)! No cardboard, but hey, I’ll take it!

Thanks Matt. Just made an offer on one of these and the guy accepted it. Case, blade bank and razor. I had never saw one of these until today. Pulled your video up and the 4 tips that you have to look for in the razor and this one had all 4 so I knew it was the right razor. I just thought it was an Aristocrat in a regent case. Then when you said the rarity of it I was so hoping he would except my offer and he did. Can’t wait to and to my collection.

Most of the information I have received about Gillette History has been through you on your videos. Not only is it good for the collector - it's good for the new person just starting to use these Gillette razors so they may chose the first, second and following razors that suit them. Thanks once again Matt!

Cool history, I found it interesting that Gillette pieced together handle and head to get a razor into the postwar market.

Always enjoy your Archive series! I recently purchased a Gillette Executive Gold Fatboy in original case with blades off ebay! There was last week another up for bid listing at $695 +$21 shipping! Mine is a New Old Stock never used!! I purchased it for an amazing $90 +$9 shipping!!!! I know it is no where the rarity of that Regent Tech, but for what I paid for it and never having been used is wonderful to me!! I have several vintage razors and will always continue to pursue the Holy Grail ones!! Thanks as always for your valuable info on vintage Gillette razors!! Jim

Matt👍👍 Fantastic information, thanks for the work/research on the Regent. I like this Archive series, even if you were to re-do it I'd watch again... I have a modest collection of Gillette razors, most in their cases and I think pristine condition but unfortunately only a few boxes. I guess the boxes were the trash of the day in 1940 etc... Great video, well done. Enjoy!

Thank you for these informative videos! I am not really interested in collecting vintage razors yet, maybe in the future I will be but for now I enjoy my modern DE razors. I do appreciate history and find videos like this to be a fun distraction from my daily grind, if you put this type of video out, I will watch them!

From a design standpoint, i know that historically the color blue/purple is more of an expensive color in the printing process,(although this goes back to pre teens era) I wonder if that’s another element in the printing choices for the outer box

I love the history of these vintage razors and I do love my slim on 9 but most of these vintage Gillette razors are too mild for me. I would love to see someone reproduce these vintage Gillette razors but more aggressive similar to maybe a merkur futur.

I have a razor that I've always thought was a Regent Tech. It looks like a late '40s Aristocrat with two smoothly knurled bands, no notches on the center bar, AND end caps. BUT, the inside surface of the blade tray is NOT stamped with any patent notices. What is this razor? Did some of the Regent Techs have end caps? I also have a cased 1941 Aristocrat without end caps, no notches but WITH the patent notices stamped inside.

I purchased a 44-45 Regent Tech (or so the seller said), all of the details match the Razor Matt is displaying, but mine has patent info stamped inside the blade area. There are no endcaps. Could there be a run of this WITH patent info stamped inside? Another rarity? 46 Aristocrats have the endcaps. Everything is identical to Matt's razor here except the stamping inside the razor. What do I have if this is not a Regent Tech?

I got a razor that's similar to this one. Non-notched t-bar. No end caps. Solid guard. Oval lather channels. No patent info on the razor. But the bands are different. The bottom band is smooth but the top band has knurling. I figure it's some kind of aristocrat.

@@RazorEmporium thanks. Yeah and no internet to shop for blades made in a neutral country that was still manufacturing blades. The company I work for used to be in a building built around WW2 for a company producing airplane propellers (unfortunately the building was destroyed in a flood in 2011). The entire roof structure was made of wood and you could still see large sections of it in areas that did not have drop ceilings. At one point it was one of the largest wooden structures. It was pretty cool. Also had wood floors that all buckled up in the flood where the floor looked like waves some as high as 3 feet.
