This is the most unique presentation of knife making that I have seen. So fascinating to see the process and the final product. Only to think how powerful that knife would act in regards to penetrating metal surfaces for rescue operations let alone the powerful artistic presentation. This really brightened up my day. Ultimately creative.
I can completely respect that u took the time to work in uncharted territory... But I am guessing the reason u didn't show the razor shaving hair is because it couldn't. The reason why is because u have about a 3/16 thick piece of steel with about 9/8 width on the blade giving it poor bevel geometry and with a razor that's everything. But don't fret about that mistake it actually happens to a ton of guys who make knives! I really hope u keep at it and we can see more of this and watch u grow!
+Mátyás Ludvig I'm pretty sure everyone's projects are done for fun, I was just letting the dude know why the blade wouldn't shave. And how he could get it to shave by pointing him to reliable information. No matter if it's for fun in sure if he made another one he would want it to function... Like I said I meant no hate by what I said
Hi Marek! If you gonna hardening a knife from a saw blade you have to dehardening(so its soft again) then you can hardening it again. Other wise the hardening gets softer and will not keep the edge. And good job with your razor!
2min10 : using that sand paper disc is the wrong direction made my hair rise to the roof ! imagine that blade digging between 2 sheets of sand paper !! OMG !
Check out Straight Razor Designs. There is far more involved in making a straight razor than this. The biggest problem with this razor is it's grind. It is most certainly asymmetrical and would appear to be 1/4 hollow even if it were done properly which makes for a heavy razor. The final hone and finish of the razor takes quite a bit of time and an experienced hand to keep you from lacerating the hell out of your face when you go to shave. A full hollow razor is nice and light and will sing across your face. Custom made razors are quite expensive and are more artistic in size and proportion than a more standard design. Dovo offers some handsome razors at a decent price that will get you started. If you need help getting started using a straight razor and the rest of the gear you should have look at Lynn Abrams on youtube.
