@@PHATT_TV I'd say if your torque curve starts to dive down, then you'd might want to consider the next step up. 280/292 might be too much, but it would definitely sound cool.

@@PHATT_TV you should already be running atleast 272's! i made good power on gsc 268s in my Evo8mr before going 274's! picked up gains everywhere except spool but loss was hardly noticeable

​​@@pheonixfps9248agree As someone who's gone stock to 800+ with 2 GTRs (31 &: 34). I also find just over 400hp is where the fun starts. 500hp is really fun and where the truly aggressive acceleration really begins. After 600-700ish it's hard to use on the street and just mind meltingly fast!!

In my 180SX with a CA18DET the half moon for the CAS was worn. I changed the exhaust cam to the inlet side and replaced the exhaust cam with a fresher one and slapped some adjustable cam gears and I got 50hp on the dyno.

What did you end up with for cam timings? I did the same swap on my CA but with stock gears and the intake advanced one tooth which should be quite close to optimal

@@Stuntlight97 I can't remember I think it was 4 degrees on the Inlet. This was back around 2007, I still have my 180SX but has sat in the parents shed for 10yrs now as I work in Asia.

@@AdmissionGaming Cam timing (or valve timing) affects how well the engine can "breathe" - how well the exhaust gases are exchanged with fresh gas mixture. This is known as volumetric efficiency (VE). The more air you get into the cylinder, the more fuel you can add (if targeting the same AFR or lambda). That means there is more energy in the charge in the cylinder. At the same timing (degrees before top dead center when spark occurs), this leads to higher pressure inside the cylinder. The higher the pressure, the greater the force on the piston and the higher the torque on the crank. Power is just torque times RPM and a constant. Hence, improved valve timing increases power.

Would be interesting to see V CAM does on a stock motor. My R33 gtr on 12psi on stock ceramic , with prp coil , NZ trigger kit, Dahtone IAT sensor, 800cc injector and LINK g4x does 340hp ATW. Vcam is next on my list to build a responsive street car

Great vid, the old budget supercar killer vids are still gold too, surprisingly there's not many back to back kelford cam vids like this, seem to be a bit better than the tomei but tomei still aren't bad for most basic builds, the 25 doesn't benefit as much from gears but the 26 def does

4wd -rwd. Not trying to be cheeky, this is what I do and iv got a switch too. Iv got a 260rs and the factory way to make it rwd for towing is by removing the wire (green clip on mine) when the car is off, behind the drivers kick panel. Start it up and you should see the 4wd dash light flick on then pump the brake 5-6 times then the light should hold steady and you can hear it depressurizing. Put a switch so you can do it easier, but the car needs to switched off when ever doing it on or off.

I chucked them in my rb20, gained 400rpm turbo response advancing intake and basically gave up zero top end with poncams, also increased throttle response not just turbo response/torque

I wonder if playing with cam timing will gain me anything on my turbo high compression 5efe. Its slave cam so it only has 1 cam gear (on the exhaust) so it would be a global change...however I could maybe change the relative position of where the intake cam meshes to the exhaust cam

@@dillon_r_hansen other than the Best Motoring/Hot Version DVD covering the HKS demo car having the V-Cam and how the Drift King can make the R34 drift and commenting how the car suddenly got mid range torque which allows him to do that stunt. Very little info on the system. All i know is that the system is borrowed from the Subaru's STi AVCS system on the EJ platform.

@@MotiveVideo I have a r34 gtr 2.8 stroker making 480kw on 98 and 520kw on ethanol, I have a step 3 vcam sitting at home however the reason I haven’t added it yet i have a tomei stroker kit in the gtr so I think the pistons need to be machined a bit… but if u guys wanna do a video before and after I would like that I’m based in Auckland nz, let me know if u wanna get in touch! The whole video is advancing intake vs std timing...but std timing hasn't been degreed. It would be interesting to know what's the difference compared to theoretical setup. Maybe those 2 degrees just allow to come back to supposed OE setting? I personnaly degreed my timing when rebuilding my engine and aimed for std HKS setup. Had to move the pulleys few degrees...

With a n/a engine the biggest limiting factor is air intake. A tumed intake can get a little above atmospheric pressure, but otherwise your engine is only capable of pumping roughly 2 liters of air in, which can only burn so much fuel. You'd be lucky to make more than 200 hp.

Only thing that sucks about just jacking the front up is the cv boots don't like it and you have to get new ones and it makes a mess 😐

If you were concerned about that you could use a couple trolley jacks in addition to jack stands to put a bit of pre-load on the suspension arms.

From some of the info I've seen, you only get the exhaust cam gear due to the VCT on the intake. What the power output/advantages are, that is to be determined. Only a couple weeks away of receiving delivery of mine and I will be putting the cam gear on with a PRP trigger kit and will know what the deal is

I don't get it, even if the engine is more efficient, why would the boost pressure drop? the only thing affecting the poost pressure is the wastegate and the tune, but if you didn't touch the tune, wouldn't the boost pressure be the same? The wastegate opens on a certain pressure, which it didn't get, so why is the boost lower?

Thats not how turbos work. Making engine either larger capacity or more efficient via cams, intercooler etc, the car will consume more air for a given volume of flow. Boost is simply a by product of how much air turbo pumps out vs how much air engine consumes.

@@MotiveVideo Thanks for the reply! I get that, but if the turbo is capable, shouldn't it still build pressure until it reaches the wastegate opening threshold? Since even if the wastegate is electronically controlled, it would not open and it would build pressure to the desired amount right? Or am I missing something?

​@itsdundee3320 boost is only a measure of restriction not flow. It's the same as a garden hose flows more water than a water blaster does.

@@itsdundee3320 Think of it this way, Boost Pressure is the measure of how much air is still being pushed into the intake that can't make it past the valves when they are open. If the boost drops off after a change, but it makes more or the same power, it means the engine is able to take in more air than it was before, hence lowering the pressure still in the intake.

@@pinsandscrews6459 That makes sense and I understand it, but they could get the turbo pressure back simply by adjusting the tune. So the turbo wasn't small for the new system. So it can't be the case that the turbo could not push enough air to reach the same pressure. Sorry 😅 What do I don't understand? Wasn't it the case of too much cam overlap? Since in my understanding the turbo will keep pushing until the wastegate opens, which can't open until it reaches the same pressure as before. so unless the turbo is too small, u should not see pressure drop. Which wasn't the case. Hence why pressure drop if the turbo can supply enough. Sorry.

impressive! its worth mentioning that a normal R33 would need upgraded turbo/turbos to get to this level, but it does prove once again that adjustable cam timing and an aftermarket ECU + dyno time can do wonders... did you mention if this is still on 98?

Did you watch the whole video and listen at the same time? Basically stock, do gears and cams, get a result. Of course do turbo upgrade gets more. So do that 1st. Get a result. Then do cams and gears, get a better result. Either way, cams and/or cam gears, increase performance

@@V8KILA totally agree… I was just wanted to clarify that a non N1 GTR has cast wheel turbos that would explode at this boost level.

True, at some point. I ran 300kw on stock turbos for about a year before going with -5s

All testing was done at 14psi to begin with, which can be done on stock turbos
