I've used the RCBS decapping tool a lot. Had it break a couple bits too. But here's a little tip so you're not deforming the mouth of the case. Take your resizing die, remove the stem with the expander ball and install it from the bottom of your press upside down and then use that to hold the case. It works quite well.

Well I would imagine the berdan primer market these days is pretty small, so I am surprised this is all still in demand.

I've used this tool to decap boxer primed cases and it works as well for those as it does for the berdan primers.

To me they make more sense than the water splashing stuff. I have a GP11 project ready to go, would like to do some K31 stuff on the channel but I have to get some other projects completed first and get some room cleared off the workbenches.

You could go 100 times faster if you put the case holder tool in a bench vise. Pinch the tool vertically in the vise, waste can under it to catch the spent primers and primer debris. And it wont wear your hands out.

Maybe, but I think this tool requires a bit of feel through the hands to get it right. In the end, I only have so much berdan brass that it isn't much of a worry.

Love the gloves primers are the messiest part of cartridge reloading. Great video

Thanks. Yes, I had a lot of lead exposure shooting smallbore rifle day in day out years ago, so anytime I'm handling lead I wear gloves, just makes it easy.

@@wanneroo7106Good stuff man I wish more people did. I know clarks armory has some nonlead ammo but tbqh I just wish there were places to get non heavy metal primers. Your video helped me a bunch even though I destroyed a few shells anvils but hey haha that's learning curves for you. Keep safe and nonleaded. Subbed!

@@MasterOfDestructionX Glad it helped. Yes you will likely sacrifice a few anvils but once you get the tool dialed in it should be good. I plan on doing more berdan primed videos in the future with both 7.62 NATO and 7.5 Swiss.

Now, do you have to have berdan primers, or is there a way to use boxer primers in these?

Keep in mind berdan primers have different dimensions to boxer primers, especially when it comes to width. There are probably some folks that have messed around with removing anvils from boxer primers and such but it's not something I would do. Best thing is to find berdan primers which is harder to do these days.

So when reloading, would this casing take a special primer or would a standard large rifle primer suffice?

You need a berdan primer to use this brass. Regular boxer primers are different dimensions and have an anvil in the primer to ignite the primer. Berdan brass has an anvil built into the brass. If you try to install a boxer primer into berdan brass you are likely to get a kaboom. I would read up on differences between berdan and boxer before you proceed further.

I’m going to start reloading M2 ball ammo for a Garand. This 7.62 brass has the primers staked in place. Can it be deprimed and sized like any other ammo? Just wondering if anyone has experience with this.

Yes you can run thru regular die. You have to remove the crimp however. Couple different tools. Lyman makes a hand reamer. Rcbs makes a swaging setup you use in the press. I've used both. The reamer works nice. The swager takes alot of force and can be tough to get used to the right feel. You only have to do it once.
