The right side carb on my Yamaha RD350 was overflowing. Had to trouble shoot and found out that the float height was incorrect. Fixed the float height and the fuel overflowing stopped!
Not sure how adjusting the fuel level in the bowl a couple of mm will fix a leaking overflow. For the fuel to discharge through the overflow, the fuel height would need to be way above the adjustment parameters and above the top of the overflow tube in the bowl. The level was set initially lower than normal in any case. More likely to be dirt on the needle and seat. I always set the float level half way down the arm not the end. Check the brass overflow tube doesn't have a hairline crack.
Great videos! I'm doing a RD250B right now. Maybe I've got this wrong, but when you adjusted the arm lower you've increased the amount of fuel it takes to close the needle valve. This will make your problem worse, not better. I think you've got a problem with the needle and seat. Someone else has tried to fix the problem by lowering the float height and closing the needle sooner. Which is why it was so far out of adjustment in the first place. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
That is a good observation. My carbs stopped overflowing after I set the arm to the recommended height though. My needle valve and float seemed to be fine. Let’s see if anyone else can explain your observation!
I have an early 1972 yam r5 350cc I’m in the process of restoration and stumbled upon your RU-vid videos which are very useful in my rebuild. I also like the music tracks you put with them especially this particular one but I can’t find this particular track the discoghosts by podington bear. Can you please point me to where I can find this particular track. Tried Spotify RU-vid etc
Hello brother thx for sharing such knowledgable vedio for rd 350..Brother I am new owner of rd 350 and have some issues with that If you can guide me it would be a great help 1. On high throttle doesn't matter its last gear or 3,4 it changes the sound (pher pher ) and gives lot of smoke...machine says start mixing 2T oil in a gas tank don't relia on fuel mixing pump 2. It start missing on low gas and finally stops...and happens before reserve Please help guiding me
Hi! Here are my suggestions: 1. Don’t mix oil in tank. Fuel pump is good and can be relied upon. Check it’s setting once. Google Autolube pump setting and you will know. 2. It’s strange your engine sound is changing both at low throttle and high throttle. I would suggest checking Air:Fuel screw of carburetor. See if it is 1.5 turns out from closed position, this is factory setting. Have explained this in my First Start video. 3. If step 2 does not work, try cleaning the carb and it’s jets very well. 4. If step 3 does not work, check the rubber hose connecting the carb to the engine and air filter, it should not be cracked and letting excess air into the engine, this can lead to bad engine running. 5. If all the above steps don’t work, you might have remove the engine and service it. New seals, gasket, piston rings, etc. The engine might not be airtight and is making the mixture lean.
Hello brother ...it took me time but now rd is running like a dream...its was lub pump setting, which is on very rich setting that is why too much smoke and second air was block by my battery which is over size so on high acceleration it was not getting enough airflow in result changing sound and not running good....Thanks once again for guiding me
