Re-Testing the Active 2.0

We had to re-test this machine since our pressure gauge blew up during our test. This is still by far the entry-level champion, you just probably don't want to run it with a 7.0 like I initially thought. My recommendation is the 5.0, but with a 4.0 you'll benefit from the higher PSI at 1.91 GPM. I think I am finding I much prefer the flow and will opt for the 5.0 instead.

I've used this sprayer several times now on brick pavers, a wood deck, patio, and a driveway. ru-vid.comUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX It has performed as expected on all surfaces. For larger areas like the decks and patios, I think I will be looking into a surface cleaner attachment to speed up the job, or at least make it a little easier. Hose and sprayer connections are tool-less, tight, and quick. I used the yellow nozzle on the concrete/brick surfaces, and the pressure was adequate for cleaning those surfaces.I am disappointed that these units are still being shipped with a nozzle storage holder that allows them to vibrate out of the holder way too easily and become lost, but I don't want to knock off a star for that reason. The functional part of the washer works very well, so I would recommend this product.

This is the best of your review videos so far. It might seem long and boring to some, but this is what it looks like when someone who really knows their stuff in a given field does serious testing. We're constantly learning how to better interpret the numbers (I'm an electrician, so numbers are a part of my daily work) and you did a great job here of showing how to deal with numbers that don't seem to make any sense at first glance and how to overcome long-heId assumptions when they're challenged by a new set of data. That's how we further our knowledge to become even more expert and experienced in our fields. I really wish I had found this before last Saturday when my old Karcher died and I ran out and got a Greenworks for the same price as the basic kit from Active.

In my experience the way you wash Matt, is a different type of wash. You're generally washing a car that is coated, and not that dirty. Low pressure and high flow work well. When I am detailing a customer's car that is filthy and has zero protection on the paint, I need more pressure to blast through the scum. I carry nozzles for both types. There is o cookie cutter answer

This is a valid point and I am with you in the camp of “normal” everyday folk not the ceramic coated or the oh I just ran through a puddle I must wash my car as soon as I get home crowd. Lol. Poking fun at those guys of course. I am wash every couple of weeks or even every other month. So the dirt is real on my vehicles. I also want to use the pressure washer for around the house and not just to wash my vehicles.

@@cue03 I'm in the same boat it's really hard to get the kind of information that we need because all of these RU-vidrs are watching coded cars and care about GPM so I'm trying to figure out which one of these units can also put some real PSI through to get the grime and dirt off a four-wheel drive adventure and wash down the driveway and the side of the garage and a front porch ...etc. I want it to be just as high quality as these units that they test here with total stop and everything but with the ability to ramp it up for real cleaning and then nozzle it down for a wash every now and then. So the question is which unit is that ?
@annagraham6204
@annagraham6204 Год назад
@@Reedith From what I’m getting watching all these channels is the electrical outlet is the limiting factor regardless of what it says on the pressure washer. 15amp 120v is going to cap your psi. Manipulating psi with a smaller nozzle and it taxes the unit causing it to surge or trip breaker. Probably would have to go gas for high psi and use a bigger nozzle when gpm is needed.

I’m still a firm believer that 1000psi is the sweet spot for washing a car. It’s down to personal preference and application. Some things are gonna require more pressure over flow and vice versa. That aside, you cannot question the 2.0s performance on a standard household circuit. Unreal. It’s the perfect step closer to a Kränzle without breaking the bank. Definitely my next purchase after my ryobi craps out.

Here’s the thing with the psi, you only need about 150 (with around 1.8-2.0 flow) to be effective. That’s it. Yeah, sounds low but that’s the truth. If you double the psi, you double your cleaning units and become that much more effective. At around 500 psi, the return on being effective starts to diminish unless you increase the flow. So on and so forth. Anything 500 psi to 1000 psi (with 1.8-2.0 flow) is absolutely fine for washing cars. The “hand” test is actually a pretty fair test … if it hurts your skin, it’s probably too much psi. My guess is that this Active 2 is going to get its most efficient performance with a 5-6 nozzle. You have to remember, 1000 psi at 2.0 gpm feels much different than 1000 psi at 1.2 gpm. The Active 2 is a legit machine for cheap. I would still recommend a Kranzle but it’s totally understandable for this to be a contender. 😊😊😊

Might just be talking into the wind, but you could rate each pressure washer in terms of fluid power. Sort of like to the ‘cleaning unit’ you mention, but the fluid mechanical version. Fluid power in HorsePower is defined as: [Pressure (psi) X Flow (gpm) / 1714]. Gives you a physical representation of how strong / how many cleaning units you have given each combination of flow and pressure.
@islepilot

I love these videos, and the discussion of the conundrum. Maybe you could "calibrate" your hand test by pulling closer to the nozzle until you just feel stinging, and report the distance in inches. I bet you are a lot closer at the lower PSI readings than the 1000 PSI....just means you might need to wash a bit closer with the lower cost options like the Active 2.0 maybe?

Just got your Active 2.0 Ultimate kit, with the nice long hose and Griot's foamer. Note, I'm coming from 40 years of buckets and sponges only, so can't compare w other power washers. The only Griot's product I have is from a warehouse error that sent a bottle of some magic detailing potion instead of ski gloves. This pressure washer is terrific! What a time-saver! And so easy to set up and use. How have I lived without a foamer? It did great with city dirt; we'll see how it does over the summer with weekly offroad, and bug-laden motorcycles.

Looking at getting either the Active 2.0 or MI-T-M Choremaster for washing my semi, trailers, pick-up, and house/property. Either one is pretty compact, and I'd like to keep it with me on the road. I'll have to double check what the amperage is rated at on my inverter, I know it's 2500 watts. With how filthy my trucks get, in short time too, I have to wash em a lot. Plus I live on the Oregon coast, so roof of the house gets plastered in moss and fir needles.

Relative psi between washers within each video is still important knowledge, even if the gauge was reporting wrong somewhere along the way. It definitely didn't oscillate between broken and unbroken during a single video. That said, if you did an updated series where you averaged psi readings across a few gauges/gauge types, I'd probably watch it.

Hey Matt I purchased one of these and like a previous Commenter I’m getting about 690 to 700 psi with the stock orifice that they say are 4.0 but the writing on the side clearly says 3.7 which I find odd but either way it’s the ones that come with the pressure washer I also am using the Uber flex hose only temporarily until I can order your call kobrajet 3/8 hose or possibly the other hose you have that’s not sold out as often and my garden hose is 50 feet and the orifice is connected to my mtm Hydro acqualine SGS35 and I’m getting 690 to 700 psi with the 40° nozzle, but I did get the cheap gauge off of Amazon because like everything else that I ordered was out of stock lol I’m still waiting for my MTM pro gauge which I’m pretty sure is a legit gauge to show up so I just got what I could in the meantime so I don’t understand why I am getting lower numbers the numbers I am getting with the stock 4.0 oriffice is what you’re getting in your testing with the 5.0 so somethings definitely wrong here any ideas? Other than the cheap gauge may be being faulty but it has 4.8 out of five rating on Amazon with over 15,000 reviews which you can never trust reviews on Amazon I get that but with that higher rating even people that are honest reviewing it should at least be reading somewhat accurate I would think so I don’t understand why I’m getting several hundred less psi than you did.

I know more about electrical test gear than pressure test gear, but I could add a recommendation to keep two pressure gauges in line with the main pressure washer in the shop - one permanently installed, the other on quick connects with a bypass. That one could be used for mobile testing and, as long as it reads correctly to the main gauge before and after testing, you can trust it. Electricians do something similar when verifying absence of voltage where we test a known hot wire, then the one we need to verify as off, then the known hot wire again to verify the meter is working properly. Sounds crazy, but it keeps us safe.

as with any product there is always slight variation. a pump has tight tolerances so the % difference should be very low.

Get a Jrod set up with two different nozzles a 4.0 to remove debris. And 6.0 to rinse. You 100% don’t need this much pressure for a car. This all comes down to gpm. Plus you selling jrods, you’ll make a killing.

Awesome series of reviews for pressure washers. I am in Ontario Canada and would mainly look at washing my car, boat and patio. Would you recommend the Active 2.0 or VE52 or Karcher 1700? Active is a CDN company and would love to support them, but they would be the top of my budget for an electric pressure washer. Thx!!

Matt, it looks like you are going between a 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch hose. What are your thoughts (or anybody else's) about using a bigger hose like the 3/8 inch to get more flow?
@ObsessedGarage

It doesn't work that way. The ID of the hose once pressurized has almost no gain or loss based on size.

I wonder with this retest how effective this will be to clean a deck or the garage floor or something other than cars. And before everyone throws up you must have a gas pressure washer for that please keep in mind I am no professional and have no problems taking my time. I have used neighbors Ryobi at 1.1 gpm and around 1700psi and it worked to visibly get the job done. Sure it wasn’t as fast as a gas pressure washer but it wasn’t “all-day”. I am not doing this to make money.

Probably going to buy this unit in the future cause right now I'm back to using the GreenWorks 2300 which my foam is too runny. Bought the comet unit from Obsessed Garage can't even use it went with it based on being made In Italy and the good specs and everything well the man from Dallas Paint correction said it wouldn't blow a fuse either well it does so I can't even use it. So, I have a 600-dollar unit I can't use, and I've tried selling it, but pawn shops won't buy it.

have you tested any Northstar , B.E or Simpson electric units. there are a few that are 20amp or 15amp 120v ones that are serviceable, have total stop and have specs claiming 1500 to 2500 psi and 1.8 to 3.0 gpm. they are all 1200 to 1500$ so they should be the competitors to King Kranzle..lol but some boast adjustable pressure for different jobs. would be nice to see you compare similar products not crappy throw away units to another that lasts 20yrs with maintenance

As usual great content Matt, does town supply make any flow difference , between OG speced locations, I live in Australia and have the Kranlzler 1152 sts and our voltage is 230 standard and have a dedicated 15amp circuit.I have your Kranlzer OG spec mosmatic setup, with 4.0 nozzle and the head pressure gauge shows it is supplying 1500 psi, but at the nozzle is just right for me, keep up with the great content. Gas pressure washers are too loud and release exhaust fumes, so they can't be used in enclosed spaces. The Active 2.0 is much more silent and is way easier to use and maintain

Finally received my Active 2.0 after waiting for the new batches to arrive. Super stoked setting it up and getting all the connections and hoses setup. That’s where the excitement ended… the unit is cycling on and off at will without the trigger being pressed. There are no leaks in the system and plenty of water into the unit - not my first PW. Contacted customer service and they agreed, not normal. Asked me to send in a video which I happily did. After that, zero contact…. I have called and emailed multiple times and nothing. This is one of the worst customer experiences I’ve had. All I would like is for a suggested fix, or exchange. Next time I’ll spend the extra money, especially if that means the service is better. I’ve lost a week… honestly not acceptable. Just something to consider if you are looking.

At least have a spare new gauge to quickly compare before each test and if no difference then likely al good but if that guard goes out of whack you will see a differential between the 2 gauges and can investigate further before continuing testing.

40 degrees or 25 degrees even 0 degrees doesn't determine the psi or gpm but the diameter of the nozzle, the larger the diameter the more gpm and lower psi
