I’ve a few Hornby hsts from the Lner farewell set intercity swallow with buffers and my latest new gwr castle set and find they run great straight out of the box
How they didn't pick up the error with the newly retooled rear window baffles me - it's moulded as an angled piece of glazing. That and the return of the extra noisy cast wheels on the MK3s. I ended up returning mine and getting the original Modelzone exclusive version.
Yeah, I thought they would have fully addressed the rear part of the car on this version but not. By the time I picked up the Modelzone version, the coaches were a crazy price I eBay so I ended selling it on. If you have the original coaches then you're as well having the Modelzone version particularly if you can source it at a more favourable price than this one.
These newly tooled HSTs look the part and are ideal for DCC sound. If you only have a DC controller, it is questionable whether they are worth the expense compared to the earlier Ringfiled motor versions as you can hardly tell the difference when they are going around on the track - apart from the noise of the motor that is! Thanks for uploading.
If I still had my original version of this set i wouldn't have gone for the new one. The close magnetic coupling is probably the main thing I would have missed. It does make for a more realistic looking train. Thanks for commenting.
@@StormmyStormmy I got a good deal from Hattons £270 + £31 per coach. I wouldn't have purchased them otherwise. I've seen some of the coaches going for even less now for certain running nos. Add £60 for the decoder and it's still not that cheap though a better model than the Bachmann Class 70 I recently reviewed.
@@EuviRail I’m glad you got a good deal, I have 4 sets 2x 8pin + 2x 21pin, I didn’t pay more than £260 for any of the sets, did you see TMC selling 2 sets for £229 they are the GWR and the cigarette packet sets, I’m not really interested in either set so I will give them a miss, the coaches are expensive for what they are, would be nice if they came with lighting, once Hornby sell out the secondhand prices will be a total joke as they are on eBay.
Hi, great running session, it would be great if Hornby produced a 21 pin yellow livery new measurement train pack, do the fans work off that decoder ok? Thanks for sharing.
Is there much difference between this and the original Modelzone version Eugene ? Ive read the comments and apparently the new tooling is still a bit iffy ? But it looks ok and sounds pretty good. Perhaps I'll wait for an inciteful Euvi
nice loco, and very good runner by the looks of it, but would i be right in thinking the power and dummy cars are about £300 and the coaches are about £44 each making that train with sound about £750, now i do apologize in advance if im wrong but is this train aimed at lottery winners or fools with more money than sense.
I have the original hst from 2008 in virgin livery and was nowhere near the price of the latest version, the only difference I've spotted is thave shifted the rear coupler from the bogie to the body.
Love the Class 43 trains shame they are gradually been retired in real life. It appears there are still minor error with the Hornby tooling. I had an old Horndy and Lima sets both second hand when I purchased them. I personally thought the Lima model was better then the Hornby version and it ran better too. There was something about the Hornby one that never looked right. Would love to have a full set of this new version in my collection but cannot justify the £700-800 price tag for a full set.
Thanks Andy. The price of these has been a sore point for me to the point that I did a video on it. I did pick up both the train pack and MK3s at a discount so we'll have a value discussion as part of the review.
Hi I have the opportunity to buy the HST power cars for 200 plus 33 a coach in Euro's. I think it's a good buy which is your opinion. Also if I use Hornby DSX DCC decoders can I run them using with my DCC controller which is a z21. Many thanks Dallas. PS I really enjoy your reviews.
Hi Christopher, apologies for the delay in responding. I'm actually going to do a short video on this in the next couple of weeks. There are a couple steps and a couple of pieces of software involved in creating you're very own customised announcements. More anon.
