What actor has the best take on the Bond character??
@turbolid
@turbolid Год назад
Everyone had his own take of the character. Sean Connery is the more classical Bond since he was the first actor to play him, George Lazenby only made Bond in one movie where he was the most romantic Bond, Roger Moore was the more funny Bond, Timothy Dalton was the more brutal Bond, Piesrce Brosnan made the more action Bond and Daniel Craig made the more realistic Bond. The only way to everyone choose what Bond they prefer is to see all the 25 movies and make their own conclusions.

For me Sean Connery and Daniel Craig because he has that Sean badass style and maybe Daniel is even more badass. Good decision to see this new saga, after having finished Mission Impossible, James Bond is another of the classic spy sagas, I think you will really like these 5 movies with Daniel Craig

James Bond 007. Created by Ian Fleming. Former government operative who became a best-selling novelist. The first novel and introduction of Bond in this legendary series was published in 1953. "The spy novel to end all spy novels". After 20 films, filmmakers wanted to finally bring 007 back to the essence of the original novel and they greatly succeeded. Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Sean Connery. His era is fully connected and well envisioned. Also this is the 2nd era for Judi Dench as M (after the Brosnan era). You are both in for quite the journey. Enjoy fellas.

James Bond movies are rather simple: there is action, fun, gadgets, cars, beautiful women. But I like Craig's Bond the most bc for the first time it feels to me like there is a character growth(or regress) spanning through all his movies, making them connected. So inconsistent with the writing and movie quality in general with the Craig bond films but I agree. Fully on board for a Bond marathon. If you’re doing all the Daniel Craig ones first, then after that, I recommend starting at the very beginning with Dr No starring Sean Connery. As for “the best Bond”, I think it largely depends on what era you grew up in. Pierce Brosnan was my childhood Bond and probably my favourite. They’re all great in their own ways, though. Even George Lazenby, who was only in one film. If you do start at the beginning after the Craig ones, you’ll see just how many films Desmond Llewelyn (the original Q) was in

36:35 - there is a whole story about the drink. "Shaken, not stirred" means the drink is shaken with ice; while with "stirred" they use a small spoon/want to gently stir the drink with ice. Difference is that if you shake the drink with ice, the ice will shatter into smaller pieces that will melt very quickly in comparison with "stirred" option. Adding of water to the drink makes it less strong and spies have to keep their whits about them. So James orders a watered drink.

Interestingly, Fleming got the idea for the book "Casino Royale" when he was given a job in WWII to carry out surveillance on 2 important people. They had an apartment overlooking the park in front of the Estoril Casino (in Lisbon, Portugal), which was the biggest casino at the time in Europe. He had the apartment opposite where he would spend hours every day watching their apartment and the comings-and-goings from the casino. The couple? Edward, Duke of Windsor (ex-King of England) and Wallis Simpson.

Okay...you asked for it. The books were written by Ian Fleming starting in the 1950s, and the first Bond film by EON Productions (the company behind all of the main films) was in 1962. The character was based on a few things, and some might surprise you. Fleming, who served in British Intelligence during WWII, based the character partly on himself and a family member who also was in British Intelligence during the war. The family member was his cousin by marriage, who later gained fame as an actor...Sir Christopher Lee (aka Saruman the White in LOTR and Count Dooku in Star Wars). Lee was suggested to play the first screen villain in a Bond film 'Dr. No'...but was finally cast as the villain in 'The Man With The Golden Gun'. The order of the films by EON Productions: Sean Connery as 007: Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice George Lazenby as 007: On Her Majesty's Secret Service (his only appearance) Sean Connery: Diamonds Are Forever (back after Lazenby for one film only) Roger Moore as 007: Live And Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View To A Kill Timothy Dalton as 007: The Living Daylights, License To Kill Pierce Brosnan as 007: GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day Daniel Craig as 007: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, SPECTRE, No Time To Die In 1983, at the same time as Octopussy with Roger Moore came out, Sean Connery returned a last time to play Bond in the non-EON produced Never Say Never Again...which has a whole huge story behind it. What is funny about Never Say Never Again is that is a remake of Thunderball (some alterations, but the same story). Personally, I cannot choose between Connery and Craig...both men truly made Bond live. The best story is 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'...it shows Bond at his most vulnerable, as well as determined. It also makes up the second story of a trilogy of Bond films...You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and Diamonds Are Forever...called The Blofeld Trilogy pitting Bond against his main nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Ironically, the best Blofeld was not portrayed in these films. You will meet the best Blofeld in the Craig films. The reason why Casino Royale was finally filmed by EON is a really long story...but fascinating. Casino Royale was made as a 1960s TV play with Bond as a CIA agent...it was really bad. Then it was turned into a campy comedy with David Niven, Peter Sellers, and Woody Allen all playing "James Bond" (just different Bonds) and Orson Welles as LeChiffre. It's an odd film. Henry Cavill, Tom Hiddleston, Rege-Jean Page, Tom Hardy, Sam Heughan, Richard Madden, and others are all in the running for 007. Henry was actually almost cast before Craig because it was down to both men, and Cavill was considered to be too young at the time. Oh...the Parkour chase...the guy Bond chased was Sebastien Foucan, one of the creators of the sport...so, he did most of his own stunts.

The Bond novels were the origin of what we think of as the modern spy genre. Ian Fleming worked in naval intelligence during WWII and the Bond character was based on several actual field agents he met during his work. When the first Bond movie came out in 1962 (“Dr. No”), it created a massive spy fad in pop culture worldwide. Shortly before his death, JFK said that his favorite novel was “From Russia With Love.” The Beatles included a Bond-theme type intro on their “Help” album. There were also countless movies, TV shows (Mission: Impossible, The Man From UNCLE etc.) that riffed on the Bond genre. I think Bond endures because he is a relatable antihero - a vulnerable human with superhero tendencies. Read the Fleming novels if you get a chance. They’re epic. If you want more Bond movies, check out “Skyfall” and “From Russia With Love.”

Regarding the book: it was indeed the first Bond book by creator Ian Fleming, but because the rights went elsewhere it never got turned into an official movie (other than a terrible comedy). While the events of the book don't start until pretty much Vesper and Bond meet - so the entire first half of the movie is new and just much-needed context for why the poker game is important - the movie is actually surprisingly accurate to Casino Royale the novel. Everything in the novel, pretty much, is in the movie, including (most notably) the entire torture scene and the death of Le Chiffre.

Small spoiler for the next movie: Her "boyfriend that was abducted", for whom she initially was forced to betray Bond and country, was actually a member of the organization and he had triced her. I don't mean to spoil, but I want to point out how tragic Vesper's character is. She spied and betrayed, helped kill and Ultimately killed herself, thinking that she was saving two people that she loved (she obviously thought that if she allowed Bond to save her at the End, they would kill her kidnapped boyfriend) but in the end the boyfriend was a liar, and Bond as a resault of her death went back to a life where he might die at any moment.

The film is a fairly accurate adaptation of the novel, fleshed out with additional scenes to provide action scenes (the novel is more or less the casino scenes and torture scenes). Ian Fleming based the novel on an incident from his own life. During WWII, he was in a casino in Lisbon when he saw some German officers playing baccarat and decided he would wipe them out. Unlike Bond, Fleming ended up losing all his money but a decade later he used it as the basis for his first novel. The novel is really just the scenes at the casino, which unfold a bit differently as there's little action outside of the card game (the exception being when one of LeChiffre's men presses a gun into Bond's back during the game to force him to fold; I won't spoil how Bond gets out of that though). No fight in the stairwell, no poisoning, and none of the scenes prior to the casino. LeChiffre is an agent of SMERSH, a Soviet agency which is a predecessor to the KGB. It's a SMERSH agent that kills LeChiffre during the torture scene, then cuts the letter S into the back of Bond's hand to denote him as a spy. His death is the end of the story dealing with him or the mission. All that remains is Bond and Vesper falling in love before the final scene in the novel. In the novel's last scene, Vesper commits suicide at the hotel. Bond enters her room to propose and finds her dead on the bed with a note left behind in which she tells Bond she loves him before revealing she's been a double agent. He throws the note down, utters a single curse word, and imagines Vesper walking through the halls of MI6 with government documents on a silver platter while he plays "Red Indians" (a term LeChiffre uses to describe their dealings which was actually the name Fleming gave to his intelligence group during WWII). Bond commits himself to going after SMERSH which he sees as the hand that holds the whip which makes spies spy. The novel ends with Bond calling HQ, noting it's an unsecure line, then says, "3030 was a double, working for Redland. Yes, I said was. The bitch is dead now."

Sean Connery and Daniel Craig are the two best Bonds. Pierce Brosnan started off well with Goldeneye but his last one "jumped the shark", as they say, which led to casting Craig in a Bond that was grittier, more realistic and not the cartoon that Bond films had become. Casino Royale is probably his best, followed closely by Skyfall.

Fun fact: Ian Fleming was a Commander (the same rank as Bond in the books) in Royal Navy Intelligence during WW2. He was involved in planning several covert operations including Operation Goldeneye (planning for guerrilla operations if Spain joined the Axis powers) and writing the initial memo for Operation Mincemeat (planting a dead body to deceive the Germans into thinking the Allies were going to invade Greece instead of Italy, which was made into a film on Netflix). He also wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

A chance to ramble about the Bond series? Don't mind if I do! I really enjoyed your reaction, as Bond is really embedded into pop culture so it's really nice to see someone experience it for the first time. The Bond series was created by former government agent Ian Flemming who wrote the stories based loosely on his experiences. As of 2022, the films consist of 25 movies with 6 different actors playing Bond, starting with Sean Connery, who is the Goat, fight me, and ending with Daniel Craig. (Technically it's 26 films but depending on who you ask Never Say Never Again doesn't count as it wasn't made by Eon Productions and didn't have the rights to things like the Bond theme music of classic looking down the gun barrel opening, but did star Sean). For the most part, all the films are standalone stories and don't really have plot points that carry over, which was why the Craig films were such a departure, as it was a fleshed out connected saga that included details of Bonds backstory and started with him getting his 00 license. Before that, the only real constants were the criminal organization Spectre, and recurring characters like Blowfeld, M, Q, Felix, and Moneypenny. I'm pretty sure the death of a specific love interest in His Majesty's Secret Service is the only time something significant to Bond affects the next film. The films generally try to have serious stakes and be level headed but they definitely get a little goofy, especially with the villains and Bond girl names. One of the most famous is Pussy Galore. She's awesome. And possibly a lesbian who made an exception. YMMV. There was a bad guy who did voodoo. I think the Brosnan films got a little too goofy though so that's why they made a bit of a U-turn with the Craig films into hard intrigue. You have to ask someone else the specifics, I'm a Connery and Moore girl, so the later films aren't my strong suite.

Needs to be said. Ian Fleming, who wrote the novels was a part of Winston Churchill’s division of ungentlemanly warfare in WW2. Together with Christopher Lee and Roald Dahl, he was one of the original secret agents. James Bond is partially autobiographical, and partly based on the badass exploits of Lee and Dahl.

So excited you guys are diving into this franchise! Love that you both had the reaction you did to the gun barrel opening. You're right, it's a signature of the series, and until this movie, it was always the first thing you saw at the beginning of a Bond movie. Since this movie is essentially the Bond origin story, opening the movie with a scene that leads into the "first" gun barrel gag is insanely cool as basically the origin of one of the most iconic elements of the franchise. As a huge Bond fan going into this film, I damn near jumped out of my seat in glee seeing this in a theater lol

This was fashioned as a sort of prequel to the Bond movies because it is just after he became 007 - he's supposed to be brash, young, brazen, cocky. He is a real man ho in this too! LOL Bond always was, so this shows his beginnings - learning how to be the Bond that became Sean Connery's Bond. I love that! That is why he makes the snide remarks about his now famous martini/line "shaken, not stirred". It builds from the primer to all Bonds: an important opening credits sequence, an important song, an important fight/crazy sequence in the beginning, an important "Bond girl", the cars, the gadgets, the tuxedo, the drink. Great video, as usual! You two are awesome, always. Thanks! Happy New Year!

A great spy thriller movie is Red Sparrow, Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton. No ones reacted to it unfortunately but I loved it. The top runner for the new Bond is Robert Pattinson (Batman, Cedwig in Harry Potter and Edward in Twilight), Regé-Jean Page, Idris Elba, and Tom Hardy. not Henry cavil. He was booted out of the running. As a Brit (not from England, from another British country), bond movies were everyone's childhood, so it'll be so awesome to see you watch these

Some notes about the novel: This was the first Bond novel. It was made into a made-for-tv movie in the 50’s which is why the rights weren’t available until 2006 for the “official” Bond series. There was also a parody film of the Bond movies in the 60’s of the same name. Since they finally acquired the rights to the first novel, EON productions decided to “reboot” the Bond series, so the Daniel Craig films are a self-contained story with a beginning and an ending and continuity between the films, breaking the previous series tradition of every film being a stand-alone. The setup in the novel is a little different. It starts with Bond arriving at the Casino. Le Chiffre was a money handler for Soviet intelligence who lost all their money investing it in French brothels before France decided to crack down on them, thereby losing him all the money. The first act of the film was invented to keep Bond more involved. Once Bond arrives at the Casino the film sticks pretty close to the novel, although updated to take place over 50 years later. One major difference is that Bond meets CIA agent Felix Leiter much earlier, before the game actually starts. Leiter is a recurring character in the novels and the films, showing up in about half of the books and probably a third of the films. In the books he becomes Bond’s best friend and confidant. The Craig movies are great as a stand-alone series but they take on a little more weight if you have seen the previous films and are familiar with the lore and history of the character. This movie is essentially an origin story for the Bond most audiences expected. If you want to see previous Bond films that feel similar, I recommend On Her Majesty’s Secret Service from 1969 and the two films Timothy Dalton starred in during the late 80’s, The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill.
