Not enough credit is given to Epica's ballads. They are all absolutely beautiful and unique. "Tides of Time", "White Waters", "Once Upon a Nightmare", "Canvas of Life", and "Feint" are all amazing ballads by the band that you should definitely consider checking out in the future.

As one of the people who suggested this song, I can't wait to see your reaction! "Rivers" is such an enchanting, touching song, it was so refreshing to hear the softer side of Epica once again. Honestly, they are masters of ballads like this, I highly recommend checking out such classics as "Tides of Time" or "Once Upon a Nightmare". P.S. Thank you Chase reacting to this single. And we can thank Rob (who also used to be Delain´s bassist) for sharing his composition with us as that is not exactly a given. He seems to be even more of a perfectionist than others. The unwritten rule in Epica is that the author has to be satisfied with his or her work or it does not appear on the album. Those songs are usually released later on. His songs often are quite doomy and poignant in terms of emotions which they evoke. One of those songs that he wrote for Quantum Enigma, but with which Rob was dissatisfied was "Mirage of Verity". Everybody else in the band liked it, though. :-) It begins, quite unusually, with a string section played tremolo and I really like it. And Simone really touched my heart singing this ballad. Her voice works so well with it. And then the choir kicks in. This official visualizer shows yet again Simone´s love of photography and visual expression in general. Conceptually, it reminds me of a music video for "Beautiful Delirium" by Blackbriar, in which you can also nearly count Zora´s eyelashes, but otherwise they are different in terms of contrast, camera angles, sharpness and blurriness. In both cases, I found their work with lights to be really good. In this one, I am so happy with the choice of blue coloring - it is very calming to me. That neat little trick with water going up instead of down. :-) Simone´s make-up and wardrobe are a cherry on top and add to the visual experience as far as I am concerned.

It's interesting, because I freaking love Mirage of Verity and all the songs composed by Rob so far. They're a bit unusual with how they flow, but they work so well. Also, That with the lyrics that Simone and Mark come up with is just perfection.

@@Sarcasticron The newer NW material definitely hasn't given Floor that big push. She's amazing, absolutely crushes, and for me, often makes their older works better, but I've not really gotten newer songs with her that have really cemented her era as their vocalist. Tuomas needs to give her material to really shine on.
@Sarcasticron
@Sarcasticron 2 года назад
@@War624 I agree that Floor's best performances with NW has been the earlier stuff. She shines on the Anette songs especially. If you ask me, what they really need to do is let her WRITE songs. Tuomas can still turn out masterpieces like The Greatest Show on Earth, but there’s also a lot of filler. Since 2012, Xandria has been doing better Nightwish than Nightwish.

I'm totally in love with this one, just shows once again that a band doesn't have to go all-out for a song to have an impact. With this record and Architects' one coming out next, I definitely know what I'm gonna spend my money on next month. By the way, not knowing if that's the case with this one, but I know that Epica does work with Amanda Sommerville, too, she's been part of the background choir and sang concert slots for Simone already, so maybe she does the backing vocals on this one 🤔? Totally feel like that would fit her range pretty well 🥰

I got distracted by your shirt. Looks like ancient Babylonian numbering system...and you look angelic in white, but that's not the point! Point being is that Simone's crushing this one. They do have some powerful ballads and frankly I don't mind them. They're packed with heavy feels.

Chase, you should check The Gentle Storm´s "Heart of Amsterdam". Another dutch jewel Anneke van Giersbergen in vocals and Arjen Lucassen composing.

Couldn't wish for more - one of my all time favourite bands and your reaction to it! I always love the insight you offer and your emotional reaction to the songs. And I would love to see your thoughts on their new live show "Omega Alive" (there are four songs on youtube). Hope you're doing well! Greetings from Germany
