Some points about the movie: 1) Indy hasn't seen Marion in ten years. Marion is in her mid 20's. Indy and Ravenwood haven't spoken in ten years because of a "falling out" (Indy-in his late 20's- was dating Ravenwood's teenage daughter). 2) In World War 2, Japan and the US fought over the pacific ocean. The US had a series of Islands in the pacific that they used, first for recoaling ships that burnt coal, and then later as fuel bases for the Pan Am clipper you see in the movie. In both cases it was about trade with Asia. Japan wanted complete control of trade in the pacific. 3) The way Spielberg traced Indy's travels on the map and the plane Indy was in (a Douglas DC-3) was an homage to the 1940 movie "Lost Horizon", which was about a valley in the Himalayas where people never aged. 4) This entire movie was an homage to the "Republic serials" of the 1940's. The serials were 20 minutes long and ended with a cliffhanger ending (so you had to see the next serial-to see if the good guy lived or not). 5) The face melting is actually from the bible (Psalm 68:2, Micah 1:4, Ezekial 22:20).

Marion Ravenwood was 28 yrs old in the story when Indiana Jones met back up with her... Indiana was somwhere between 38-42.... Karen Allen was 28 yrs during the audition & pre-production, and she was 29 yrs old at the Raiders Premiere in 1981 and Harrison Ford was 39... putting Marion's character's age at 18 yrs old retroactively to the story of them having a secret affair... Google it
@ricktoledo8424
@ricktoledo8424 3 года назад
To add.... Marion's Character was the daughter of Indiana Jones' mentor, who also happened to be a Professor of Archeology and a fellow Swashbuckling, Treasure seaking, Artifacts collecting adventurer as well named Abner Ravenwood... and he was a completely different type of Tenured Professor than Indiana Jones' father was... After many years of accompanying Abner on many different globe-trotting adventures and dangerous international scenarios and intrigue, when Indiana & Abner came back to the U.S.A, Marion was now 18 yrs old and all grown up and Indiana became increasingly attracted to her, inspite of his mentor's warning of never getting too personal or involved with his daughter... because both Abner & Indiana Jones were kinda Scoundrels... Abner knew he didn't want Marion to end up with someone just like him in anyway... but it turns out, Nature is smarter than people think... and it caused a big falling out between the Jones' and the Ravenwood families and Marion was outcasted because of her involvement with Indiana Jones, and Indiana himself was no longer on good speaking terms with his Father for bringing shame to the family name... and Indiana moved away and moved on to many many different adventures throughout the years... until that day after he got back from Peru and the Army intelligence came to the university to speak with him and asked him about Abner Ravenwood and his level of involvement and collaboration he once had with him, and ask him to re-establish contact with him because Abner was recently mentioned in a Secret Nazi Communication Cabled Transmission about the lost city of Tanis in Egypt, which was one of the last possible Ancient city resting places that could've housed the lost Ark of The Covenant... hense... Raiders of the Lost ARK 👍

These films always have a soft spot in my heart for the acting, the characters, the action, the writing, the settings, the score, and the costume designs. Duaffy, a few interesting tidbits rarely mentioned by others: 5:06 There is a continuity error: the "eyelid girl" moved seats between takes, if you know it you cannot unsee it. 5:50 The headpiece to the head of the Staff of Ra had a crystal that bent the light going through it to make it work; but without the actual piece, it was impossible to know how the crystal was shaped, thus how much the light got bent. Expecting a replica to function properly would be very unrealistic. 8:14 The Gestapo man was very likely the inspiration of the same in the British television series 'Allo'Allo, where all Gestapo officers wore long coats, glasses, black hat, and walked with a limp. 25:18 Nobody was working on it, because they knew God might treat them the same way as the Nazis, as they had something of a guilty conscience. Also, the open-top Mercedes staff car was a very realistic replica. Genuine examples are of course extremely rare and valuable, but for the sake of an authentic look, Spielberg commissioned a custom car builder in England, "Classic Cars of Coventry" (no longer extant), to build as close a replica as possible using modern mechanics (Jaguar), and after filming he sold it without losing money.

Yeah George Lucas wrote the story but Lawrence Kasdan wrote the movie itself. Talented man who was also responsible for Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Thanks to Lucas not being involved in the scripts, there’s no bland/terrible dialogue.

The mythology of the Ark was actually very well-researched for this movie. The Old Testament actually says not to look inside the Ark or to look upon its power. You're also not supposed to touch it, either (there's a cut part of the scene where Indy and Sallah remove it from the stone vault where Indy stops Sallah from doing so for that reason).

A classic movie, I used to watch this with my Dad a lot - though I think we watched The Last Crusade more (Be sure to check that one out too! :P). One of the things I find really interesting about this movie, if Indy didn't get involved and didn't play the hero...the Nazi's still would have lost in the end when they opened the box, it still would have killed them all. Can't think of another movie off the top of my head where the hero's journey wasn't actually required to stop the bad guys! Doesn't take anything away from the movie for me, but I find it kinda interesting and a nice "evil doesn't prosper" idea.

"It's gonna get lost in there!" Yeah, that's the whole idea. The U.S. government did the same thing with it the ancient Egyptians did -- they hid it away. It's too dangerous to mess with, themselves; and it's too dangerous for anybody who isn't a proper king of Israel (or, at least, a Jewish general) to try to use; and there's no way the U.S. government would ever let anybody *else* have it. So, they put it in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere, so nobody can ever find it. This one scene spawned a number of references, and even a few spinoffs. * In Captain America: The First Avenger, the Red Skull mentions, "the Fuhrer chases trinkets in the desert." Guess what he meant? :) * The entire TV series, Warehouse 13, is based on this last scene. * The Librarian movies and novels riff on this same idea. There are probably others, as well. This is a fun movie, and now a classic of the genre, and generated any number of copy-cats. :)
