@Shame nolan Don't want to be rude, but I'm pretty sure you're mistaken: she never ran away from home. Contrary: she was very close to her parents and brothers, and all were/are very artistic. In a nutshell: she was introduced to David Gilmour through a friend of the family. He helped her get a professionally produced demo tape that got het signed at EMI at the age of 16. She studied dance and movement from Lindsey Kemp (her song 'Moving' is about him - David Bowie was another one of his students) before releasing her debut album, produced by Andrew Powell, at the age of 19.
Kate bush was my first crush 😅 she's beautiful ❤️ and just to let you know she is as genuine in real life as can be 👍 such a private and caring person 😘 Beautiful inside and out 💕 I see you get the emotion her voice brings God bless you I felt the same ❤️ Love and hugs to you 🙏
HI !! I would love to hear your thoughts/reaction to Peter Gabriel joining Joni Mitchell for the duet My Secret Place. I know you are a PG fan , as am I ... I feel you'd find Joni and his voices together as inspiring and beautiful as he and Kates.
Kate Bush is my Favorite Female singer, im so glad you found interest in her music and how moving it truly is. Her library is terrific and I'm sure you will see just what songs you will keep listening too. I absolutely love how you enjoy the music we all grew up in, im an 80s kid and will always be. My children have the passion for the music they missed and the lifestyle. Your a Beautiful woman and keep your energy going, enthusiasm and smile. 80 Rule
Tony is among the best session bassists of all time, and has played a lot with Peter Gabriel... although I like his work best with King Crimson from '71-'73.
I too can not listen to Kate without tears in my eyes still after 40 years listening to her. It’s because she sounds like she is on the edge of tears herself I think. real soulful.
When I was a young man and a keen fan (still am) and she had her massive success beginning after Wuthering Heights, I was a member of a her fan club and wrote to her. She personally wrote back, a single sheet of A4 with a lengthy personal letter, she even wrote the envelope, I have verified the handwriting, its quite unique. You would have to prize this possession from my dead hand! - When she came out of retirement to do some gigs in London 2014, I was there and it was a bucket list piece of theatre, of magic, you never get short changed with Kate, the fans are so dedicated.
I finally got my act together and recording me singing this and playing it on bass, because, as you said, this is the virtual hug the world need right now.
I think Kate is the one cradling Peter. He is the man whose life is falling apart, who feels he is failing his family. She is desperately trying to support the man she loves. I was in this position for 5 years. Watched a proud, family devoted man, devastated by a recession, crumble. The man I loved was on his knees. This is happening again in these difficult times. One day at a time, people. Take it one day at a time and be kind and take kindness from each other . It will work out ❤️
A simple yet profound life lesson is presented here. Notice how Peter's character is the weaker of the two. He's in real danger of slipping away, but note how Kate's character is acutely aware of that so she reafirms his worth and value, reminding him that he's loved by her and their friends. But she's also aware that sometimes words in themselves aren't always enough, so to ensure he really really knows how she feels about him, esp when he is so very fragile and vulnerable, she physically holds onto him and she never ever ever lets go of him, not for a moment while he is in this really bad place. Such an emotional lesson in a "pop" song. Thanks for choosing it. It deserves reintroducing to a younger audience, many of whom wont know it even exists - esp in this Covid era.
By all accounts of those who have met her, fans, media and colleagues, she is a very geniune, modest, and beautiful human being. It is interesting how some early interviewers in her career would cruelly try to catch her off her guard or ask uncomfortable questions, expecting this 19 year old to crumble, but she would politely and sweetly squash every attempt. they didn't expect genius from a young girl back then. i highly recommend watching interviews to quell any doubts you may have about the integrity of this remarkable woman.
She was cradling him. You need to have a few years under your belt to feel this song. When I was young it was just a song. Today it almost brings me to tears.
She was indeed cradling him. Her comment about Peter getting a little "handsey" took me aback. I didn't see it that way at all, and it missed the point of the embrace being comforting.
We never truly know, but every single comment I have seen over the years says how sweet & down to earth Kate Bush is as a person. Just the fact that she has always shied away from "stardom" & lived a quiet life tends to support that IMO.
Kate's voice has and always will be my lifejacket to get me through the rough seas in life. There is always this comforting tone in it. The music she makes always has meaning and depth. It can take a long time to discover de layers in these depths. Her lyrical skills are those of a great novellist. After her second album Lionheart, released 9 months after the release of her classic debutalbum, The Kick Inside, she decided to let her music direct her rhythm in albumproducing. She doesn't make music just to be in the spotlight, it's the other way round. She only produces music that needs to be put out there because of it's urge. Hence the long and many silent years in between albums. I don't know of any artist like her, that overwhelms me with a feeling of bliss, listening to her voice.
They were a perfect couple - Artistically because not only were they great Vocalists and Songwriters but they were Very Visual in the performances. It didn't matter if they making Music Videos or Performing on stage. They were by definition - ARTISTS.
His is the voice of the damaged man. Beaten and weathered by life. Damaged and strained by work. Hers is the balm that soothes, making him feel as all is worth it because of her affection and care. The feel of the supporting touch can do wonders. Would that more people knew that feeling.
Did you notice !? In the background is an actual total eclipse of the sun. And in the middle (during the "ring of fire"), is Peter's lament. And then Kate comes back to soothe. ;-)
He’s hanging onto her in desperation. She’s the one providing the love and encouragement. And no he’s not getting hands it’s like a play, it’s necessary to tell the story. They are two professionals
Kate Bush captured my young heart at an early age from the showing of Running Up That Hill on MTV late one night. I was always more into female vocals than male bands, and you are right there is just something about her that stirs your soul. I suggest you also research Alison Moyet, lead singer of the 80's New Wave band Yaz, Yazz or Yazzoo (called different bands in different countries). She has a soulful voice that is amazing as well.
This song always brings a year just because they both sing with so much emotion. I like them both but Kate more. She is just so good at translating emotion and story into her songs so clearly and vividly. You want another teary one? "This woman's work" is incredible by her. Maybe you'd remember it from the movie she's having a baby from the 80s.
There I was broke, about to be evicted, car about to be repossessed, divorced. Couldn't even afford McDonald's for my kids when they visited. About to swallow a whole bottle of blood pressure pills. Spent three days in a psych ward. Saw my kids it was like I breathed again. Yes I cry every time I hear this song, but it reminds me not to give up because I came through. These days are hard as hell, but don't give up. I love this song and I still cry to hear it and I remember to pray for all who are sad and struggling. Another song is By Your Side by Sade.
To those stumbling across Kate Bush, she is a one off genius. As a Brit in the UK I had the good fortune of following her amazing career. Peter Gabriel is also a one off. Two Brits I'm extremely proud of
Bittersweet watching this. My husband at the time was trying really hard to find a job during the economic recession and I bought this record for him. It brings all the memories back of that time. We split a few years later and both remarried but I still think of him sometimes. 😢😢
Yes..I got tears in my eyes too..its sad and hopeful at the same time..and Kate Bush looks and sounds like an angel coming down to earth to sooth and comfort us...I think, and this is with hard competition, that Kate Bush,Peter Gabriel and George Michael have the best singing voices in the UK,and also, are some of the very best of the world..
I dont think Peter Gabriel would disappoint you...hes a man that fights for equality right across the board, lending his voice to aid the masses that need help......justice and fairness are his priorities of life, he has never sold his morals or his art for fame glory or money...a true humble superstar....there are plenty of interviews of Peter on you tube wher you simply can not be impressed by his life mantra 👍
She certainly puts her whole being into presenting her work live on stage. It's readily apparent how important her songs are to her. It's not just a job.
Peter and Kate have known each other for many years their first duet being in 1979 Kate has a back catalogue that is full of pure brillence She is a very private person and is rarely in the public eye going years between albums. xxx
A song written by Gabriel about life during the Great Depression. Apparently his wife was really not thrilled about how long they were holding each other for the filming of the video. If I might suggest the word transcendent when describing her voice.
@@catsarai-genxrewind5271 Peter and Kate reportedly had an affair at that time (and it shows). I also should mention she refused to be paid for this duet, so Peter offered her a drum machine, which can be heard on her magnificent _Hounds of Love_ album. Check out her song _Cloudbusting_ as soon as you can, it's *so* beautiful (pun intended here, cause Peter's album was titled _So_ actually). ^^
this song is like a lifeboat, it lifts you out of dark places,, btw Kate and Pete were pretty good friends and she sang back up on two more of his songs and he appeared on her Xmas special in 1979 he got reportedly got permission from his wife to make this video
@@catsarai-genxrewind5271 side note on herbie Hancocks album John Legend and Pink do the vocal ,a very faithful cover but equally AMAZING,, but Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush are their own genres in their art
Hits everyone that hears this, so very hard, brings emotions, long forgotten dreams and regrets to the surface, its a love we all want, perhaps one that people have lived, and lost,,
At the time this was released the UK was in deep recession, mines were closing, factories closing and thousands of men were put out of work. That’s what this is all about - “don’t give up! Moved on to another town - so many men on their knees - don’t give up you’re not the only one”. As noted the eclipse of the sun behind them shows the changing fortunes. Nice reaction.
I love Kate Bush, she’s too magical for any language to truly describe her … But I have to say you are just as amazing and sweet as her voice. I notice and love all the nuances of your facial expressions…they are say so enduring…I often don’t know who to look at.
Yes, Kate is not at all fake or mean. She didn't get corrupted by fame because she almost did everything to avoid fame. A very private person but a true artist just wanting to make music she believed would be good.
@@johncall9090 Yeh I agree. In one of her rare interviews in response to the question is she a recluse she said no not at all as she just leads a very normal life. She does the washing, shopping etc looks after her son and spends time with her family and friends. Basically she does not court the press.
Sublime, her voice os sublime..unconciously triggers the receptors in your brain, before you realise, she has you lol, and her beautiful expressive, genuine face, gabriels voice is also sublime, what a voice, truly gifted, to think they replaced his voice with phil collins lol..
I will tell you how nice Kate Bush is ... once @ one of her shows, there was a number of people who could not get in and she had baked cookies for them and she actually went out and personally passed them out to them. She's very, very shy but a very nice lady.
This is a great song, one of my go to's to lift me up when feeling beaten. So was one of the first CDs I bought when I was stationed in England back in 1985. So many great tracks like In Your Eyes, Red Rain, Sledgehammer. I have always loved Peter's work be it solo or with Genesis. Phil Collins from Genesis is another incredible talent. You got a new subscriber here...
Dolly Parton was Peter's first choice in this video. Thank God she turned him down. Not that she isn't a massive talent but the match up was all wrong.
A very powerful and emotional song, that I can relate to very much, living in the uk as a young adult in the late 70's and early 80's they were very tough times economically and socially, for many of us,....the perfect duet though, they go together perfectly 👍👍👍💖💖
Beautiful reaction. Kate's voice has the same effect on me. I'd love to see you react to more of Kate's work... especially Moments of Pleasure, that one always makes me well up.
Gabriel first want to do the duett with Dolly Parton ... but the world has luck. This is, in my oppinion, one of the sweetest duetts of all time. Love the power of this song.
I always cry when Angeles sing. Kate has been carried me through rough waters in my life and will always have a place in my heart for her. My epitome of womanhood. She is nice but cautious, from what I have surmised.😁🤗🥰
It's another Godley & Creme clip - it's so simple with the eclipse mirroring his characters descent and despair. Sometimes you dont need a lot of flash to work.
I agree. It,s a nice to see how your choices move you personally, rather than the over-the-top nonsense that we usually see and move quickly away from.
Kate Bush is a genius, a spectacular original artist. I'm American and was ensorcelled by Kate Bush after her SNL performance in 1978 "Man With The Child In His Eyes". Check it out on DailyMotion, it's not on youtube.
I love both these artists. What makes this song extra special is that both are story tellers. Both are taking on the rolls here. If you look at the rest of Kate Bush's music, every song tells a story, but they are not about Kate's life. She creates characters and while she is singing she is that character. Kate Bush is a genuinely nice person, never let fame go to her head. She just does what she enjoys doing with music.
The song was inspired by the Depression-era photographs of Dorothea Lange, showing poverty-stricken Americans in Dust Bowl conditions. Gabriel saw Lange's images in a 1973 book titled In This Proud Land. He felt that a song based on this was wholly appropriate to difficult economic conditions in England under Margaret Thatcher. He composed lyrics about a man whose unemployment causes stress in his domestic relationship. The verses, sung by Gabriel, describe the man's feelings of isolation, loneliness and despair; the choruses, sung by Bush, offer words of hope and encouragement. Gabriel originally wrote the song from a reference point of American roots music and he approached country singer Dolly Parton to sing it with him. However, Parton turned it down, so his friend Kate Bush took her place
In the 80s in England a lot of men where moving round the country looking for work, there was a lot more men then jobs back then, lot's of desperate families this song summed it up in a way that only Kate could do a beautiful lady in every way God bless her she gave it all for the quiet life, self sufficient lifestyle see is loved in England and now it seems USA
This still in 2020 the year we find out were true people's hart's lay and the art's of man is falling do to stress and broken feelings and if there ever a song to bringing us back up its this one ( don't give up ) god , your family a friends xxxxxxx
I remember as a kid , my friends and I would always say how Peter and Kate should do a song together ..... and then this song came out .... then discovered that they knew each other and worked together for years ... ( check out Kate's Christmas specials from the BBC )
I am a huge Kate Bush fan and this is actually the first song that I listened of hers. I was looking for a song with the same title and I kept bumping on other tracks, one of them being this one. I wasnt impressed back then (I was like 17 perhaps) but now I can appreciate the song. So simple lyrics that speak to the heart. I think everyone needs to hear those things from someone important: "dont give up, cause you still have friends... we're proud of who you are... I know you can make it good... you worry too much". :)
I can tell you are a beautiful person, too-because you show it. I bought Kate's albums when they came out, and also Divinyls. They were extraordinary. At that time U.S. recording was all about the money and the success of the music video industry, and the last thing they wanted was the promotion of overseas interest. Sad but as you can see the Reaction videos are bringing the past greats to the forefront again for the youth to experience and the older like me to reminisce.
For me it all started with a tv show I can't remember with Kate dancing in tights on top of a piano I believe to a song called Them Heavy People ( Rollin' the Ball ) Soon I was at the record store. There is a video of that tune and another great called Moving on a show called Saturday Night at the Mill. 1978. I
I'm not an expert on Kate Bush, but from what I have seen and read she is genuinely a nice person. This song is an antidepressant that is administered through the ears.
Massive fan of both, but Kate Bush is my favorite artist, ever. Her voice, at first I would almost say a haunting quality. In the best of ways, it's unique and it strikes a chord. I don't know, I feel like she speaks to me.
If you want a real tear jerker you need to see Moments of Pleasure. It breaks me every time and I'm 65 now. Love your reaction. By the way I hate Peter Gabriel for having Kate holding onto him.
I have to say that was the most emotionally touching reaction to a music video I have ever seen. You connected to it so well and I could see that you was really feeling it, it made me cry watching your reaction. I have been a life long fan of both Peter and Kate, both are musical geniuses. Both are very intelligent people with so much musical talent, Kate especially. She is a singer, songwriter, composer, musician, dancer, and a beautiful person inside and out. Thank you for your lovely reaction, you felt it emotionally, in exactly the same way as I have felt it for all these years. Thank you ❤
@@neilsun2521 he was inspired by her, when he w.as going through a really bad time in his life and helped him through he spoke about her in the BBC documentary called the Kate Bush story
I always liked 'This Woman's Work' by Kate Bush. The video with Tim McInnerny (of Doctor Who and Sherlock) in a hospital waiting room will break your heart.
You are a wonderful reactor. Kate is so incredible, she doesn’t operate within the normal parameters the rest of us muddle around in. Sh3 effectively retired in her ea4ly twenties at the peak of her fame. Could have smashed the world imho but chose not to. Her comebacks in later years are received like no other. A living genius!
