The x100vi has fujifilm simulations, it has ibis, it has a built in nd filter, the processor and megapixels has been updated. It’s an all in one camera which makes it better than anything out there.

The V was relatively anonymous before the spike? Are you kidding? Every model of the X100 series was VERY popular, all over the world.

Anyone blaming one or many TikTok videos for the X100V being sold out wasn't really paying attention. At all.

I just picked up my hype train today 🤣. But I'm no stranger to it having owned the 100F and 100V previously. What makes this camera unique vs the others is the OVF/EVF, built-in 4-stop ND, and leaf shutter. Most people could care less about those features, but for us camera nerds, it's a pretty sweet little package - at a bargain price in my opinion.

Well you have a hundred cameras and a thousand lenses so no surprise there 😅. I wasn't trying to say the camera isn't good or worth it, just trying to understand/explain the hype but I didn't explore the unique features of the camera well and maybe understated its unique features. Curious though, what benefit you get from the leaf shutter

I picked up one too after years of wondering why anyone would pay good money for a fixed-lens camera. But I've not been able to replicate this kind of quality in a compact size with the beasts I own. And the ability to crop liberally with a 40mp sensor, IBIS, and ND filter... well, it finally convinced me it was worth having alongside my larger camera kits.

I think the hype is a good thing for the industry. It's revealing that there is room for the market to grow by targeting consumers who have different wants than the typical photo nerd crowd. What concerns me is that companies will sacrifice features to focus on aesthetics. The X100VI is kind of disappointing from an innovation standpoint. Nothing is surprising or interesting about its new features. It offers the bare minimum of what is expected from a successor.

Good points. I just think once something gets overhyped, there's a backlash or just a reversal of interest and enthusiasm. I think there were some pretty decent improvements on the VI, but I wasn't a super close follower of the series so I'm not sure what people wanted or expected from the next generation

If you’re going to comment on what lens to pickup please have some knowledge of your product! Your pancake ramble was just that! No knowledge leads to a nothing hear to come back for!

I really don't get the hype for this one, 35mm focal length is just not wide enough for so many things and f/3 full frame equivalent is not that ambitious. When I bought my Fuji X-S10 the original owner "upgraded" to an X100V and later regretted it and bought another X-S10.

The X100 series is a solid camera that has stayed focused on its principles of a single 35 mm equivalent lens, rangefinder, optical/EVF hybrid design. Fuji has really done nothing to encourage what's happened but during COVID/post-COVID you are right, RU-vid and TikTok discovered the camera and it became a craze. That doesn't mean there isn't a reason why its popular... a new generation (and older generations who had lost it) discovered the enjoyment of a dedicated camera, the composition of photography, and the creative color grading and film looks that are built in without the need to make the time to edit in post afterwards. Sure I'd argue you can do much of the same with a modern smartphone but the tactile feel, the ability to look through a viewfinder to see the world, and not being distracted by incoming messages, tweets, social media etc. makes taking photography plain more fun. Now its entirely possible that many of the folks who find their way to the X100 series won't stay with it and move on to the next "trend" but its AN AWESOME THING ANYTIME, ANYONE, ANYWHERE decides to use a dedicated camera... which have been in utter freefall in the last 15 years. People who love cameras should be overjoyed with what's happening with the X100V and X100VI even if personally they use or like something very different. Some of these people new to X100VI will stick and embrace photography and we will all be better for it. We have to guard against our nature to keep our "little club" private when there is a whole world out there that could discover photography.,, even if its because of a TikTok video and a little Fuji camera.

hey, not trying to be too critical or make fun of you or anything, just saying i think it's interesting you call the camera 'just a point and shoot' and suggest there's really nothing particularly special about it, but then when you list "similar" cameras, they're very different cameras that don't corner this particular niche. the closest one is the GR. yes, hype and marketing plays a factor, but you're not gonna market somebody into a 1600 dollar purchase that has never owned a camera, and while many might not do any research, many others will and find that no other camera fits the niche. the closest thing would be other fuji cameras and those still don't fill the niche (having to learn about / buy lenses, larger, more expensive often times, less playful more serious, etc). i own the canon g7x, it's nothing like the x100 line. i've seen this type of video a dozen times too and i feel like people really don't understand that the success of this camera is precisely because there's nothing that does what it does. it hits a very precise niche. there is no competitor with this camera, that's why it's so successful and hyped. if you want it, you have no other options except MAYBE the GR and i'd argue that camera is also very different

Thanks for the comment, respectful criticism is welcomed. I'm not trying to bash the camera just trying to understand and examine the hype and maybe make a broader point about RU-vid in general. I did talk to employees at the local camera store who said that they dealt with customers who bought an X100V without much understanding of what the camera is. I didn't talk about that in the video because those are just anecdotes but I think it's certainly possible that people bought one due to the hype. I mean, people are susceptible to marketing and trends, otherwise companies wouldn't spend millions of dollars on advertising.

...there is no competitor with this camera'. I completely agreed. As successful as this line is, one wud think the other manufactures wanna complete in this sector.

Great video. You just talked about what I have in my mind about this camera. Still I don’t understand the hype. And man 35mm at full frame cameras is the least favorite focal length for me personally. Not wide enough and not the perfect lens for portrait either. 28mm and 50mm are my go lenses for street photography. An X-T5 with 18mm F1.4, and 33mm F1.4 combo is all what I need for street photography.

I had a friend with the original x100 and loved the images that he would get from it in college. Thought id pick up a v a while ago and couldnt find one at a reasonable price. Figured out I could easily spend less on a new x-t5 plus lens, went for it and didnt look back. Now, I have several lenses and feel like I would have regretted the x100v since I would have been limited by the fixed lens (I know thats part of the fun for some people). Its still a very cool piece of gear, even if some of its appeal may be aesthetic. If I already had a daily driver camera, had some extra money, and decided I needed something more pocketable, I think the x100vi would be an awesome camera.

the X100 was a Fujifilm FinePix! imagine if Canon had made the PowerShot ELPH survive into the modern era. I wanted a X100V before it got meme’d… so i did pick up a VI successfully.
