I love looking at the lighter side of being trans sometimes, so here I'm reacting to your trans fails/stories/confessions.

I have a funny story that is recent. I'm FtM and have been on HRT for almost 10 years now. I have my name and gender marker legally changed and a full beard. Because of Covid, my regular doctor wasn't accepting walk-ins so I went to an after hours clinic instead. Everything goes fine until the doctor starts asking me about my prostate. I panic and say "I don't have the p thing" She stops and stares at me for a bit and asks me to elaborate. I continue "uh..me girl down there...yeah" She looked like she was trying not to laugh and asked if I meant to say I was a trans man. It was really embarrassing at the time but now is a funny story I share with my friends

Hey idk who is gonna read this but I’m FTM and as you can tell I can’t come out to my parents I go by Oliver and ofc he/him pronouns. I’m proud to be Trans but my parents aren’t supportive and if I tried to tell them they would say I’m faking it. I have to express myself in other ways like painting my nails the trans flag color and if I’m lucky my friends will even help me buy a binder. I’m sorry to be a downer but I needed to rant, thanks for reading a dumb comment by a baby trans man 🏳️‍⚧️ Thanks loves~ Oliver

Why would you ever tell someone "The lady's section is over there." Like there are so many reasons anybody could be in the men's section. Maybe they're trans, maybe they're buying clothes for someone else, maybe they just prefer clothes from the men's section. I'm NB, and most of my clothes are from the men's section. They're comfy, and seem more durable, they can be so much cheaper, and best of all *POCKETS*

One day I wasn't wearing the waiscoat and my aunt hugged me and felt my binder, I was going to tell her what it was but she thought it was something for fixing my back and was so sure of it that I didn't correct her and just left it like that.

So here is a story: I’m non-binary and out to my family. They chose not to use my name or pronouns but my sister ones try. I was out in this story btw. So I had an appointment with a doctor/therapist person for the first time and the doctor got confused and thought I was a cis boy. My mom proceeded to correct her and tell her my pronouns are she/her. The the doctor herself asks me what my preferred pronouns are and I say they/them he/him. It kinda felt like I was calling my mom out and it felt good. Then when I was talking to the therapist/doctor in private she asked me if I had a name I would like her to call me. I said my name and she started calling me by that with no problem. When my mom was speaking to the doctor the doctor would use my correct name and pronouns and my mom would use my dead name and she her pronouns. It felt really validating when the doctor would call me by my preferred name and pronouns. It was also really funny because it felt like my mo was kinda being called out even though she wasn’t directly and it also sounded funny like this “Has he ever been abused?” “No she hasn’t.” “Ok, so is there any medical condition that Kota has that I should know about” “Yes, *deadname* has a thyroid condition” It was honestly so hard not to burst out laughing. Edit:Thanks so much for so many likes! I actually got my name by looking at the name Dakota and removed Da because it felt to long and then it was perfect ✨

In my orchestra, there was one person trans person (ftm) who had not come out to us yet. Then one weekend we had a weekend together with the orchestra and he came out to us there. We could see he was very nervous about our reactions. During that day we could vote for our new miss and mister (orchestra name), so everyone who had not yet voted, voted for him as our new mister (orchestra name). He won with a landslide and I still think it was the best response we could have given to him coming out.

Alright so everyone's telling their coming out stories in the comments so here's mine. My mother knew I was questioning when I was like eleven but would always say "you're a girl. you know you're a girl." And me being the panicky person I was would just agree. Long story short she was wrong but I haven't officially told her. She knows I just haven't had the guts to properly address her. I wear binder and have short hair and masc clothes but I'm waiting till high school to come out (I'm in eighth grade). My dad on the other hand, found out once while He, my cousin and I were baking cookies. My phone was on the counter and my lock screen is my preferred name. He looked at me and said "Do you wanna be called Elijah? I always told people you were my daughter but I'll call you my son if you want." I couldn't stop smiling it made me feel so happy. He proceeded to take me out on a father son day and we got burgers and went bowling. My sister is eight and doesn't completely understand so when people ask her of she has a brother or sister I am called a Brother-Sister-Thing and it's kinda funny. She loves me so thats what matters.

I remember being with extended family one year and we were all just hanging out in the kitchen and living room. I was sitting in front of the fireplace on my phone mindlessly scrolling through Pinterest or Tumblr or something of the sorts. One of my aunts started talking to me but I was really only half listening and didn't realize who was talking (My aunt sounds remarkably like my mother who I'm already out to.) My aunt said "Deadname do you have a boyfriend yet?" And without a second thought I replied with "Boys? Ew no, girls on the other hand." I quickly glanced up very shocked and she just kind of stared before saying, "Ah okay then." I looked over at my cousin, who was out as gay, and just kind of awkwardly smiled. He said he was proud and gave me a big hug while laughing. I laugh about it with friends now.

I’m confused, was the surgery top/bottom surgery, or an unrelated health concern? It seems weird for your mom to be so unsupportive while still taking you to get a gender-conforming surgery. On the other hand, if your doctors/nurses were so supportive even in an environment where your gender wasn’t the main topic, that’s awesome! It’s very lucky to be able to find doctors who understand and support trans identities who don’t also commonly practice medicine with trans folks. Either way, glad your experience was so positive!☺️

Not a fail, but a funny story. I had just come out as a trans man at work. I work in a grocery store filling curbside pickup orders. My coworkers had known me as a woman for 4 years, and I was the first trans person many of them knew. They didn’t really know how to talk to me. One customer ordered 12 dozen eggs, and as I was packing it up, I commented to my manager that if she wanted eggs so bad, she could have mine. My manager froze and looked at me wide-eyed for a minute before bursting out laughing. Now, we’re all comfortable with each other, making jokes and just hanging out.

When I last went to my optometrist for new glasses even they tried to push me toward the women's section.. whereas I liked the ones I already found in the men's section (which fit my face better, too). But like - they're just glasses, sort them by size and style but they don't have a gender. My entire wardrobe is like a 50/50 mix of 'mens' and 'womens' clothing despite most being pretty much the same overall style and fitment One thing I'm okay with for clothes advertising, for example with t-shirts, is to say whether it's straight cut, tapered, short/long that kind of thing, because people do come in different shapes and it's great to have options. Yet still you have stores like Amazon selling shirts with non binary slogans and then just ask if you want it in male or female without saying what that even means.

Not a fail but - Im ftm, I have been out 9 years this month and have been on t 6 years on Xmas eve. I had been thinking about my gender for many years and was planning on coming out at some point but I hadn't gotten the courage to do so yet. My twin sister and I were sat in maccys, eating and she just looked at me and said "you look like a guy, you smell like a guy (I used alot of lynx back then), you wear mens clothes and underwear, you date girls. Do you want to be a guy?" I couldn't do anything but nod with a mouthful of burger. She said "okay cool. I always said *dead name* is gonna be a boy when they're older, looks like i was right". And that's how I came out to my sister. After I managed to swallow my food I asked her not to tell our mum as I was planning on writing a letter to her to come out but hadn't done it yet and didn't want her to tell mum before I did. She was totally fine with it. I came out afew weeks later and my mum was totally supportive. My younger sister cried saying she didn't want a brother but now 9 years later she is 100% behind me and says she wouldn't change it for the world, she is glad I transitioned as I am now a happier person and a great uncle ♡

Here's my own story, Some of my classmates said they were bulldozers and attack helicopters (we're in 7th grade and most of them are very uneducated when it comes the LGBT+ community), I joined in saying I'm an it, not a boy, not a girl, and they were confused, one said "but aren't you a girl?"(I had said to my class multiple times that I'm non binary but they often forget) and I responded with "Well yes, but no." I said I'm non binary so I don't use she/her pronouns but I'm ok with he/him pronouns because I might trans. Later on that day one of my teachers (who often referred to me as a girl) called me he and it was amazing because they didn't go back to say she and even though I was wearing a mask, you could see the grin I had. It always made me smile when people refer to me as he/him and I might transition which makes it even better Edit 9 months later: so it turns out I am actually transgender and omnisexual, and the first adult I came out to was actually my music teacher from that year and she was the first adult to actually use my preferred name and pronouns :D

When he said "yay for accepting moms" I- I'm not trans, but I have a friend who is NB. In Spanish (I'm Latina), unfortunately, we don't really have neutral pronouns such as they/them, so we use the letter "e" at the end of certain words. It would be sort of "ella=she", "él=he" and "elle=them". Is weird but anyway: My mom doesn't really get that. She struggles, but is slowly learning. When I told her about my NB friend she started using the "e" at the end of the words, and asking questions so I would ask my friend, and she'd understand. She's fully supportive, and as my friend said, "she's baby". (?) She says hi, and that y'all are valid and precious 💖

Yesss it's so weird being non binary in a native spanish countryy. I'm a cis girl, and I find it really dificult to get around the Elle pronoun, I totally think we should create a neutral pronoun and that it would be soo useful, but it's difficult to get used to it when everyone around you criticizes it. And it's even more dificult when the RAE doesn't accept it. Anyway, sorry for long text, I hope you, your friend and your mom are fine!

One of those stories reminded me of a scene in a French film called "le derrière". The story is a young woman meets her father, who does not know he has a daughter. She find out he is gay and says things that clearly show he is a misogynist, so she dress as a man so he would like her. There is a scene where they are driving and she asks to go pee and he stops the car next to a tree. So she very awkwardly tries to pee on the tree and pee all over her pants. It's a cute and funny film about being true to yourself and not trying to change who you are to please others (especially your parents...)

Oh god same. I am very gay and have a naturally flamboyant personality, so I was happy wearing feminine clothing as a kid and 6 year old me didn't have the words to express that while I was happy wearing a pink skirt, I wanted to be seen as a boy. My mom also wouldn't let me cut my hair which I had wanted ever since I could remember. When I first told my parents, my mom told me not to come out at school and if the name really bothered me to ask to go by my middle name (my middle name is Ray after my grandpa, so it could've become my name easily), and then they ignored it for close to two years despite me reminding them often. I changed the name I was going by from Tyler to Ian, the latter of which would've been my name if I was cis. I did a big family update of the name change, and for some reason, that just stuck and everyone started calling me that more frequently until they started to understand. I don't know why they ignored it for two years, I really couldn't say, but they came around, and a year later I stated T. Now that I'm 8 months on T, they never mess up my name or pronouns, and we can even joke about my deadname (I play a character in a video game whose dead sister follows her around as a ghost and the dead sister's name is my deadname which is pretty funny). Anyways, I'm so sorry that they can't see how you might've been struggling as a child and don't think that your experience is valid, but I promise that it does get better. My parents thought they were being supportive as well, but they'll learn and when they do, sticking it out will be so worth it!

that's almost exactly what happened to me, i tried coming out to my parents a few months ago as i was still figuring it out. my dad was incredibly supportive, but my mom went 'seriously?' and we had a long talk about how i was sUcH a GirLy gIrl wHen i wAs yOungEr (im afab) so i couldn't possibly be another gender. now i have figured out that i am xenogender and otherkin, and ace and demiromantic. my parents aren't any kind of -phobic, i think my mom just thinks you have to have dysphoria to be a different gender than how you were born. i have said many times that i kin this, i kin that, etc, but i don't think my parents know what kin means. my mom said "once you start bringing boys and/or girls home," yadda yadda. so i think she might have some hint of knowledge that i'm not completely straight. i might come out with sexuality soon, but i'm going to wait a while for gender. i just don't know how my mom will take me being ace, because she has said many things about me making babies and stuff. i've dropped hints before like how i would rather adopt, but they don't get it. thoughts? advice? sorry that was weird TwT

I'm MTF and I think I may have accidentally outed myself in front of my mother. After having a discussion with my lovely friend who is trans herself and confirming my feelings, I felt like I finally found who I was after years of confusion, anxiety and depression. In the heat of the moment, I decided to buy a trans bracelet. Something small that is barely noticeable while I know the meaning and felt validated. I've worn it all the time at work and in general public without so much as a glance. So after a tiring work shift, I came home and assisted my mother because she was recovering from an injury. Without even realizing it, she had a very clear view of my bracelet and asked me "Son, where you got that pretty bracelet?" I could hear myself in my head very audibly shout "FUCK!! FUCK!! FUCK!!" and just told her "Oh a friend gave it to me." Granted, that probably didn't help much because now that tells her I have a friend who is trans and that I know it. Was not ready to tell her the truth, but I feel like she just knows now.

Girl don't worry too much. If your mum is knowledgable about LGBT+ stuff, she might sus it out but if she isn't I doubt she'll find out! I've had multiple flags which I've hidden and my mum's seen and I've added the non-binary (and trans) flag into the background of lots of art which I show my mum and friends. None of them suspected a thing and I had to tell them what the flags were once I came out since I wanted to know if they sused me or not (they did, but not because of the flags at all). Long story short, only really LGBT+-phobes/TERFs and LGBT+ people know the flags, and even then not all of them! Don't worry too much. Pass it off as a cute bracelet you like the colours of. And if she notices it's the flag, just say you didn't know (I've seen ppl with pride stuff who were actually cishet so it's not uncommon). Good luck! You'll get through it

@@broski9938 I feel like I'm not very good at hiding how I really am despite how hard I've suppressed everything for the last few years. She usually consults me whenever it comes to cooking and fashion which I'm very much interested in. Not to mention my fashion choice has been inadvertently more androgynous (slightly more feminine) before I ever came to my realization. Heck, she even talks about how nice it would be to have a daughter and it comes across as if she's waiting for me to say something. It probably doesn't help that I hide my sexuality, so I'm just pretty damn sus to anyone. And yes. I do have better knowledge of women's fashion and tend to help with her wardrobe. Which is hilarious for my workplace because I can navigate the women's section, yet I'm blind asf in the men's haha.

It's your choice if you want to come out, regardless of whether she knows or not. It's always going to be nerve wracking, unfortunately. And if she does know and is waiting, don't worry bout it! The being asked about your age when early in a transition is so relatable... I was pushing THIRTY and still got asked for ID when getting beer. When my sister got married, I went to a nice men's clothes shop to get something to wear. The person working there asked me what I was looking for, so I told him maybe a nice shirt, and he went, "But [women's chain shop] is right across the road!" I've not been back to that shop in the almost decade since.

Once when I was in 5th grade (Before I knew I was Non-binary), I cut my hair really short (wanted to experiment, and I love my short hair) and I was not very popular (had to deal with bullies, they just irritated me but some comments hurt me, but that’s a story for another time) so I walk into my math class and one of my bullies immediately looks and me and says: “Why did you cut your hair short, you Tryna be a boy?!” And laughed. It didn’t hurt but I was offended, not because he called me a boy, but at the fact he was being transphobic (I’m very supportive and a part of the community, even before I knew I was apart of it, I was supportive that was how I have been raised) Sorry if this is hard to read, or hard to understand lol (This is my trans fail) Another story, this happened recently, I had set one of my accounts profile pics to a non-binary flag that said on it: “My pronouns are They/Them/Theirs” and I accidentally set it to my school profile. I had google meets everyday for all my classes and I almost always had my camera off so everyone in the meet could see my profile, and I never realized, until yesterday one of my friends texted me at around 9pm (I was supposed to be sleeping) and she told me she liked my picture, at first I thought she was talking about my school photos (I wore a suit and tie) so I said: “Thank you I’m really proud of it”, she told me she had found it on google and was really proud of me, I was confused and checked my school profile picture, needless to say I was embarrassed and scared (I was not out to my school or my friends) I told her: “Oh...hehe I didn’t know that” and she then asked if I was out to my family and if they supported me, I said yes (they are but won’t let me change anything about myself besides my pronouns, but they still love me) she asked if I had a preferred name I wanted to go by, I was so excited, I had never been asked that before, and I said yes but don’t tell my parents (My preferred name is Storm, but my parents love my not yet dead name and told me never to change my name) and I told her that and I then told her once I was old enough I would start other things (chest binding and T-shots) and she said: “That makes sense, in my opinion, It’s your body your choice, we’re all human”. I almost started crying and I said thank you for being so supportive and her response was the most validating thing to me ever, she replied: “You’re welcome, Storm”, I told her thank you again and she told me that even if others didn’t support me she would always be there for me. I never felt more happy and relieved in my life.

8:55 Approximately a year before I came out, I went to get my hair cut and went into the boys' clothing section for the first time. Since I used to live outside of town and I needed a ride, I was there with my mom. When I tried on a boy's shirt, a saleswoman came over to me and my mom and was like "this is a boy's shirt". I was petrified and didn't know how to react because it felt like I was "busted" but my mom was just like "yeah, we know" and gave me an encouraging smile. Needless to say, when I did come out, she was supportive as hell and I love her so much.

MtF story time: I came out just before I turned 32 and in my first month on HRT I went to visit a friend who was moving out of state. Her apartment was mostly packed up and she had 2 other girl friends over and not enough sitting space. After I came into her apartment she opted to sit on the ground and the only other remaining chair was one of those bunjo bungee chairs (look up an image of one). I didn't have much of a wardrobe yet, so I was a bit of a gender expression mess, but I was wearing a skirt and panties that day. So, I opted to sit in the chair, and if you've ever sat in one, you'll probably see where this is going... I was sitting in the chair for a couple minutes until I looked over at my friend next to me only to be met with her clearly embarrassed gaze fixed very much towards my lower end and it immediately dawned on me I was indeed aggressively flashing the entire room. My face probably looked liked I'd had an instant sunburn as whatever dignity I had keeled over dead. I got up from the chair and sat on the floor while making some comment about the chair "not working out." I've never been so embarrassed in my life and just wanted to curl up in a ball and forget that day ever existed. Damn you bungee chairs!

A few days after I came out to my family me and my mum went to get clothes(which was so much easier than shopping from the female shopping which made me happy as I struggled shopping for clothes alot before) we went into the shop and I found some clothes I like so I went to the changing room guy and he directed us to the men's changing rooms which I was happy about but then my mum left to look at more clothes and when I came out I ended up having to talk to the guy and I deepened my voice because I was so worried he would think that I am female and be angry for not going to the female changing room. My legs were literally shaking. But now I have gotten more comfortable around that sort of stuff

I actually have a story: So it was a week or so before my brother's birthday when I was like 8 and he was turning 5. I was in the 'boy toys' section when I was looking at toy cars with my mum. Then a lady that worked there came up to me and said, "That's for boys, sweetie!". I was annoyed that she felt the need to say that to me, and I'm the type of person that dwells on things that annoy me for ages, so I didn't say anything. Then my mum just looked her in the eyes and said, "They're for her brother." The lady looked embarrassed and just said "Oh" and walked away. Whenever I need a laugh I just think of that lady and her stupid need for gener roles, that she didn't even need to stress in that moment. Gets me every time.

One of my biggest fears is that my mum (I don't even live with her, but she regularly comes to visit me) opens my bathroom cabinet and finds my packer or worse, my stp (which I never use because I failed everytime I practiced). She knows that I'm trans but it's really hard to talk to her about body dysphoria related issues. Also, the first few days after I started packing, I constantly feared that my packer would accidently drop out of my underwear while I was walking.

That story about clothes shopping reminded me of the time I went shopping for a shirt in the men's section with my partner. I'm transmasc and for my cousin's wedding, I wanted to wear something I actually felt comfortable in. We probably looked very lost because I was very nervous, and I am very much aware of the fact that people will probably read me as female because of my body shape, but then this worker came up to us and he basically told us, "well here are some classic shirts, there are some more colourful ones over there, oh and I think you're a size L", and it felt _so good and validating._ This guy just didn't question why we were there (or he could tell I am trans), and I felt and looked amazing in the shirt we bought.
