I have had my RES for 22 years. Her shell now is 9 inches long. She's in a large tank with an above tank egg crate basking area. I take her out everyday to walk around the house.. She refuses to eat anything leafy and green and has always been fussy about commercial turtle food. I feed her steamed trout coated in spirulina and give her vitamin eye drops. She also has 10 goldfish living with her. They will clean her shedding skin up really well. Her shell is hard and smooth because I clean up any peeling that occurs as she grows. She and my 4 cats get along perfectly when she's walking around the house. She also goes out on the patio with my cats during the summer. Love your videos and wanted to share about my big old turtle, Mytle.🐢
I'm so amazed on hearing you about how caring you truly are with all your animals. I do like all of your tips about turtles. I actually just bought cumberlands turtles.
Omg I'm so amaze that you response. Wow thank you. I hope I could keep in touch with you. Therefore, I will like to know more stuff on how to care my turtles.
I had live plants and a rock bottom for my turtle, but she decided to eat every plant in there (I bought plants that were meant for turtle tanks that turtles supposedly would not eat) and after those disappeared I discovered her eating any of the rocks that would fit into her mouth. (to clarify, the majority of rocks luckily did not fit into her mouth, but there were some that were chipped or little tiny rocks that she would dig to the bottom to find and eat) Now I can only keep artificial plants and extra large rocks on the bottom.
hello, I am getting a turtle on April 9th and I have been watching all of your videos on turtle care. These videos are total life savers, and without these my turtle would probably die 😅
@@TheTurtleGirl hey I asked you a couple months ago how to get my turtle to eat fruit and you never responded so maybe this time you can tell me how? She just eats meal worms and pellets and shrimp, Also I don’t know how to get rid of the calcium build up on the basking area and glass
Just saw when you said that and you should add the hashtag and just put that on a shirt or hoodie (btw I would totally wear a hoodie that said that and it would be even better if there was a turtle on the side just agreeing quietly
Working on getting my decor right before I send a pic of my RES,🐢 Tuckers tank 👍💪 so my reaction from you will be one of the very few "Need more Decor" comments 🐢🐢 Jeniffer in California!
Your slogan she be “MAYBE IT NEEDS A LITTLE BIT MORE” or “MAYBE YOU COULD ADD A LITTLE SOMETHING”! I think that would be a DOPE piece of merch for you and of course some other merch with your turtles on and other animals in it. 🙂🐢
Hello from Cleveland, Ohio. I just set up a 55 gal tank with a Yellow Bellied Slider and some Tiger Barbs. I'll be sending pics soon. Thanks for all your advise.
@9:30 I tried that brand of tree trunk (to the left) from PetSmart with my African sideneck Kobe. She liked to hide underneath it with the roots, but she had trouble actually climbing up it to bask, so I just returned it back to the store (it literally costed around $50.00, so I at least I got that money back. 😅). Yeah, it’s from their Thrive brand, and even though it says it’s for forty gallons and above, however, I think it only really fits with their brand terrariums (I’ve read reviews online where it doesn’t fit any other brand tanks/terrariums, but there’s *just* enough room with the Thrive tanks to fit it in), just to let you know.
Hi Turtle girl! Are you going to be reacting to 60-65 gallon tanks at all? If so, are submissions going to be opening again for 60-65 gallon tanks? I would love to submit my turtle tank and hopefully it could be featured in a future video :)
I can’t get plant decorations in my tank because my turtle eats EVERYTHING. The only thing that’s been able to withstand his daily assault is my lucky bamboo. And he’s persistent! He even took a bite out of my sponge.
All these tanks look great! Definitely ideas for me to decor a better environment for my turtle #moredecor To leave you with a good laugh my red eye slider who I thought was a boy for almost 20 years, turned out to be a girl because she payed unfertilized eggs. I am still shocked!
the best choice is an above tank basking area to maximize water volume! you can make one out of egg crate like many did in the video or buy one off chewy, they are around 50 dollars. good luck!
Hi! I have a 40 gallon as well and would like to submit to you a video of my tank. How can I do that? Thanks! Great content as usual. I love all the videos you provide. Very educational.
I enjoyed the video. Really funny. Hope you also have a turtely awesome day. I used to drink a lot of sparkling water. Yes I think it is an acquired taste. Good alternative to soda, though.
Bought some driftwood to well and truly suscribe to your motto. Hoping it'll stop my Red Eared Slider hanging off the filter whenever she fancies surveying the living room (i.e. escape attempt 3000)
Finally Got fluval fx4 filter for my 40 gallon breeder. It's amazing except one of the valves has a small leak lol. Anyways to fix leak with out purchasing new valve? If I have to i can buy a new one.
Hello, this is a dumb question.. I have a red eared slider for about 20 years and he has had a rock in his tank for years but recently its enemy number one and has been attacking it and biting it. should I take the rock out so he doesn't hurt himself? Or is this a sign of something else?
Turtle girl I need help. My tank will not clear or stop stinking. I up graded to a canister tank, fluvial 307 for a 40 gal. Tank. I am doing partial water changes but lately I have entirely cleaned tank only for it to come back to dirty quickly. I am trying to get my bloom in but need help please. I need to stop feeding Tommy in his tank. He is about 5" and a red eared slider. Thank you. Denise
So a few days ago I went to the fish store to get fish for my turtle tank and I picked something cheap ( guppies ) and I figured he would try to eat them but I was so wrong he is scared of them is that normal for some turtles?
I'm apparently watching this 2022 but my red eared slider ATE one of my tiger Barb fish🥲 had to take the other 2 out to let them grow in a sperate tank.
Great Video! I'm planning on getting a hatchling mud turtle, and I'm just wondering if you would recommend a turtle kit you can get from petco for like 200? Or should I go ahead and get the tank filter substrate etc. All separate? P.S. You've taught me a lot and gotten me really excited about getting my turtle!
hey Trent! It depends on how much you want to spend and the effort you put into gathering all the materials. The kits can have a lot of the basics that you need, but depending on your needs, you may not use everything provided or have to supplement it with other equipment/etc. I'd suggest making a list of all the things you anticipate needing, seeing what the kit includes, and if it's more cost and time effective one way or the other :) best of luck!
sry forgot to miction in the united states we call them herbivores so i just wanted to make that clear cause ik some countries say stuff diffrent just to make that clear
I want to get sand for my turtle tank but my turtle likes to sometimes go at the bottom and like dig at the bottom and I don't want the sand to cloud the water
So I have gotten 3 different basking lights and the first one was fine until it burnet out so I bought another one and it almost lit my house on fire so I bought another one and it exploded and I just had to pick the pieces of glass out of her tank. Why? Pls tell me why
I cant have anything in my 75 gallon tank because my 1 year old female yellow belly slider literally eats everything. She even shattered one of the water heaters and ate some of the glass 🥺 and she bullies my 4 year old male because hes smaller. How do you keep multiple turtles in the same tank??
I have a mud turtle and he's young, I've had him for 4-5 months now, and I never seen him bask not once. He just chills underneath his basking area and he comes out and swims, he's active trust me. But anyways I need help, how do I get him to bask. If you can replay and help me out that would be amazing.
i mix my 4 cm to 7 cm turtles with my 70 - 80 cm koi fish, my koi fish like to swallow them sometimes and spit them back out again.. (map turtles, tecta, dbt) i also sometimes put my tortoise inside my fish pond so they can swim around for muscle development... i know it sounds hectic and unrecommended, but they are healthy as a horse, i always put baby turtles on the rain so their immune get stronger, some weakling baby turtles get sick and got flu, but i treat them with flu medicine and super uv rays combine with fish juice and vitamin a, c juice injected with drops... and they are immune to the rain after that... , i set up a basking area as well for them to bask.. so its all good.. :) my tecta like to sleep for hours on the bottom of my 2 meter depth pond.. , many warned me of turtle drowning, but no such thing ever happened, he is strong and healthy.. i also use water from the well that has been filtered with natural bio for my pond..
