@Tevin Grouse I agree with you. I think the biggest problem with a lot of people about simmons is he has all the talent in the world but won't shoot/ prove to the other team that he can shoot. If he has a decent jumper it can easily make him a Top 5 player. It will allow the sixers to spread the floor out more for Embiid to do work down low.

I get where you and others who agree with this come from, but the Spurs winning wasn't much of a highlight in the big picture. It's important since guys are starting to jockey for playoff seeding but in reality it didn't mean much. Zion is/was the big story and the hype around him is HIGH to put it lightly. Of course this is where they'll direct focus.

Alvin Gentry was so HOT when he couldn’t sub Zion our early in the 4th. My favorite was after he hit his 4th 3 he wanted Zo to call a timeout so he could take Zion out but instead Zo have it to Zion n he got fouled so he had to wait longer to take him out LMAO they cut to Gentry face n he was HAWT😭

unclebobrules72 exactly. Defense is always harder for rookies especially team defense with rotations. Plus you can tell he’s still getting his reaction speed and timing back from all the rust thats come with being down. When he gets in game shape and some more experience we will see what he can actually do on that end

The fact that not only was he doing this in the 4th but in a close game, AS A ROOKIE!, this tells me a few things, 1. His confidence in his shot is very high, 2. He’s not afraid to take big game shot, and 3. He’s showing that you can put the team on his back and he will put in the work to win. I give another season to really mesh as a team and if everyone’s healthy they will be playoff contenders

What’s really special about him, is he ALWAYS gives his team a chance to win. It’s pretty much never his fault when the team loses. That’s been true on all levels (HS, Duke, Preseason!) The future is bright for the kid.

He's not just in pre-season shape, he's in haven't played meaningful minutes in 10 months and never played a NBA schedule shape. It is going to take a while and will require patience but give it a season or two and he has the potential to be every bit of the sensation he was in his one year of college. What I thought was spectacular was that he came out of college with many internet detractors saying that all he can do is dunk ... but it was everything but dunks in his debut. The surprising 3's, the awareness, the assists, the rebounds. Looking forward to watching this guy. Reminds me of Barkley with even greater potential.

The injury was a blessing in disguise cuz the pelicans are 3 games out of playoffs, zion got taught how to move his body better to prevent future serious injuries and he got to work on his jumpshot. The only thing stopping simmons/gainnis for take over the league was that they were lacking a jumpshot(gannis worked on his and won mvp and might win it again) while simmons still has the potential to but just isn't working on a jumpshot while zion is coming into the league with the same kind of game but with a better jump shot than both simmons/gannis

Zion is special. No one in tj league gets off th floor quicker than Zion. Poeltl blocked his shot, yet Zion was able to grab the rebound and have a putback layup before anyone could even get off the floor. Zion and Lonzo will be special together. I think the Pelicans came out flat because they were pressing for Zion. The team eventually settled and Zion got hot at the right time in the 4th quarter and gave them the lead before he was eventually subbed out. This team has a bright future and they have plenty of assets to build around Zion going forward. They just need to stay healthy as a team.

People say sports is about winning, but that’s not why pro sports exist per se. Pro sports exist because a lot of people care about the sport and they usually support a team or players passionately. Fans connect with teams usually based on geography, but fans connect with players for all sorts of reasons. A lot of fans connect with Zion in a way very few players connect with fans. His play on the court creates a rare level of fan excitement. This is not hyperbole. I saw it in high school, at duke, and now in the nba preseason and one regular season game. A lot of fans connect with Zion when they see him play and that fan connection to the sport is ultimately what drives pro sports.
