💬 I’ve been waiting well over two years to do this song out of complete respect for my fellow compilation creator, Derek Brooks. He did an amazing mashup to this song back in November 2021. If you have not seen it yet, please go check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4BQUnoVBSto.htmlsi=gJfcdAytpG7RZS2A Life has been smacking me upside the head the last couple of months but I don’t know what I would have done without this amazing distraction. I swear music has saved me on so many occasions. Trying something different in dropping this one. A premiere! I hope this finds you all safe and sound and please enjoy! Onto the next! 💜
2:01 Love, Love That nostalgic clip tie-in with Chester (I). Humorously memorable. I like the pre and post song reaction clips on this one a lot too. It feels like a best of the best reactions complication in a well edited groove. Well Done, You.
My ex husband is the biggest Rush fan, and my kids surprised him for his birthday and got a piece of the floor from where they produced that song in this video!!!! We have it framed. 😊
NEIL PEART’S 10 RULES FOR SUCCESS: 1: EARN YOUR AUDIENCE 2: BE RESTLESS 3: GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE 4: LEARN FROM OTHERS 5: CREATE WHAT YOU LIKE 6: INFECT PEOPLE WITH YOUR FIRE 7: DON’T READ REVIEWS 8: CREATE FOR YOUR IDEAL AUDIENCE 9: FIND YOUR INSPIRATION 10: NEVER STOP EXPERIMENTING
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary
My favourite band from the age of 14, I’m now 56! Love these guys so much, thank you for this Momma. Got to see them live here in the UK, Canada and in Tampa, USA on their final tour (R40). RIP Neil, your drumming & lyrics inspired so many people. If you want to dive into some earlier songs, please check out Xanadu from the Exit Stage Left live tour. Lots of reactions to that track. Thanks again ❤
Three musical & magical geniuses creating their incredible pieces. Always good to hear their works of art. Appreciation to you WonderMomma for sharing this one!
You killed it again, WonderMommaOG. Thank you. I can't believe people are just discovering a band I've been listening to since middle school over 40 years ago.
I was 12 yrs old when this song came out. I'm 55 now and still crank this jam and really ALL RUSH songs! Love this band since before I was a teen! A Farewell to Kings and 2112 are my favorite albums from RUSH!
Fantastic OG, and so very glad you created it. I have watched Derek Brooks ... numerous times,... Steel sharpens Steel ... and leads to great tributes to the best music . All is good when so many from all over can agree . and the rest of us can witness.
Even though we know you rock the drums as good as Neil Peart, WonderMomma, this is pure proof how timeless the music of RUSH really is. Thank you for another great compilation!!! YOU ROCK!
@@WonderMommaOG keep your head up momma and I’m always here for you, thank you for being such a kind a genuine individual. Don’t let anyone tell you less💙💙💙
The thing that has always impressed me the most is the way Rush performed with such intricacies and precision and power while cranking out so many unique and beautiful sounds truly masterful 🤘🎸❤️🔥
Yet another outstanding compilation video, Momma!! Rush is one of my favorite bands, and one of my favorites to see people react to for the first time. Even people that might not know much about music recognize Neal's greatness and most are amazed that the wall of sound they're hearing is coming from only 3 guys! "Tom Sawyer" seems to be a pretty common entry level Rush song, much like "The Pot" for Tool, but usually is just the beginning of the rabbit hole. Take care Momma, and I'm so sorry about your cat. Looking forward to your next project ✌️
RUSH: MASTERS OF TIME SIGNATURES: They don't sit down and say "Let's write in (x) time signature." They just write what they feel. Jacob's Ladder alternates between 5/4, 6/4 and 7/4, then 6/8 and 7/8. Limelight is 7/4 not 7/8. The middle of La Villa (A Lerxst in Wonderland) is in 7/8. Kid Gloves is in 5/4 for the intro and verses and 4/4 for choruses. The Trees starts in 3/4, moves into 4/4 and the solo section is 5/4.
I love Rush! I saw them in Birmingham, AL, in 86. BOC opened for them. Such a great concert. Thank you! I love watching people react to the music I love! Tom Sawyer is one I love! We were spoiled for choice in music in the 70s and 80s. We took it for granted too.
I'm a 70's grad, we didn't have to be sold out for just one band, we had a buffet of great music we could choose from. Monday could be Rush, Tuesday Yes, Wednesday Boston 14:25 , Thursday Frampton, Friday Led Zepplin, Saturday Fleetwood Mac, Sunday Pink Floyd.......could go a whole month listening to a different great band every day. All different genres, some blending genres together forming their own genre.....Steely Dan the most notable "mixer". All before digital tools like Autotune and mixing software. Most bands did their recordings as a group live in the studio, usually only re-tracking vocals or mistakes.
RUSH........The absolute best progressive rock band of all time. The excellence of their talent overflows in the music. I almost stop hearing the music here cuz I can't believe what I'm seeing. So focused on 3 men that take my emotions on this crazy ride. Outta breath like my guy in the car🙋♀️I don't think they've had any formal training I believe their self-taught (correct me if I'm wrong) Just a couple of kids from a small town with the same passion for music 🥁🎸🎙️👏👏👏
From 1981….till today, my, my how music has changed….the last 15 years have been so disappointing for the most part, That’s why I really don’t listen to much modern music today, most of what I do hear all sounds so Mono Tone….no, Harmony, No Expression, No Symphony…just some sort’ve Synthesized droning….sorry, but that’s how it sounds….which makes Music from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s 80’s and 90’s sound so incredible! I was Blessed to be born in 1960….and be raised in all those decades of Great Music. And to see the Young peoples reaction is Absolutely Priceless…. Thank You, Wonder Moma!!! You are Amazy♥️♥️♥️♥️
Hello from Ontario Canada its awesome too see you guys listening too Rush for the first time Rush is truly one of the greats I have been listening too Rush since the 80s I bought my first Rush LP when I was a kid back then still have it too fun fact Rush is from Toronto RIP Neil Pert truly one of the greatest drummers in Rock . Bands and Songs from the 60s 70s and 80s take you on a Journey such bands that do that are the Doors , Iron Butterfly , Journey , Boston , Foreigner , Chicago and Rush .
3rd row center 1982 The Omni in Atlanta, still the best concert I ever witnessed. Sheer perfection in every way. And there was no way to not air drum this tune in your car during morning or afternoon rush, it just wasn't possible.
Me and hubby saw Rush on this tour 1982. Geddie Lee singing and playing bass with one hand while playing synth other hand all at same time. Neil threw a drum stick and hubby who is also drummer caught it. played his drums with it and broke it...lol... Still have the tour shirt ❤
*No Bigger Rush Fan Than Me On The Planet (I'm Sure Millions Feel The Same Way About Themselves) & This Was The Track That Hooked Its Canadian Teeth Into Me In 1981. I Was A Little Familiar With PW (1980), But Tom Sawyer/Moving Pictures Immediately Obsessed Me To Consume All 7 Studio Albums That Preceded This One. 43 Years & 33 Concerts Later, I Still Believe It's The Greatest Song & Album They've Created. In My Opinion, They Were At Their Apex; Musical Complexity (Pre MIDI) & Musical/Lyrical Talent - Especially The Sound Of Pratt's Cherry-Wine Tama Kit & Percussion Ensemble Which Began Changing On Their Next LP, Signals (1982). Maybe It's My Bias Because 1981 Is When I Became A RUSHian Citizen, But Tom Sawyer May Be The Greatest Hard Rock Tune Of All-Time. Thank-You For Putting This Together. ☆*
It is truly amazing how Rush's talent is recognized instantly even when hearing them very first time. Legends. A bit of trivia, if you watch any of videos of their lives shows check out for the washing machines and dryers. The reason??? Geddy's side of the stage compared to Alex has much less amps and stacks so they did it to balance it out.
RUSH entered my life when I was 16 back in 1974 and saw them four times and the rest is HISTORY..Us Boomers saw the best bands in History, and you all missed it..
How lucky we were. ❤❤ Saw almost all the bands back then. Best concert I ever went to was Pink Floyd's " Dark Side of the Moon" in 1973. Blew my mind. Elton John I saw 5 times. He ages like a fine wine. Led Zeppelin 5 times too. Wish I could go back in time & see them all again. Can't forget Bowie. Saw him twice. ✌️🌻🌻
3 AWESOME MUSICIANS!! SEEMS LIKE THERE'S 6 GUYS IN THIS AWESOME BAND AND THERE IS JUST 3 INCREDIBLE 3 VERY TALENTED GUYS!! NEIL PEART WHAT A FREAKIN DRUMMER 🥁🔥🔥🔥 RIP NEIL PEART!! GEDDY ( BASS & FRONTMAN ) AND ALEX INCREDIBLE GUIATIST 😊💓🔥🤘✌️ BEAUTIFUL VIDEO WONDERMOMMAOG!! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 AWESOME CANADIANS!!
I enjoy seeing the youngsters being blown away by the music of my youth. Just goes to show them how awesome our world was. We carry this great music around in our heads as they tout the likes of what is popular today & wonder why we shake our heads. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.
Recorded at the Morin-Heights Studio (Québec), this video of Rush playing Tom Sawyer particularly touches me. I live 8 minutes from the site of this Studio, which unfortunately no longer exists today, following a fire that ravaged almost everything. A commemorative plaque bearing the inscription "Rush" remained on the site for many years. This Studio was located on 233 acres of land, including Perry Lake named after the founder of the Studio. André Perry who became known as a sound engineer working for John Lennon when he, accompanied by Yoko Ono, came to Montreal for his Bed In for Peace. They recorded their anthem "Give Peace a Chance" in their room at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel with André Perry on tape. The Studio was used by many notable Canadian and international singers, including Rush (it was even nicknamed "Rush's Abbey Road Studios"), The Police, Sting solo, the Bee Gees, Chicago, David Bowie, April Wine, Cat Stevens and Celine Dion, among others.
I’ve seen RUSH 4 times and watching them live would have blown your mind! I would have front row seating and I couldn’t follow Neil he moved so fast! He had instruments 360degrees around him…totally incredible for a 3 piece band!!RIP Neil!
Thanks Wonder !!! You picked a great one AGAIN. I remember bringing the vinyl home in the summer that it was released. Sat on the edge of my bed mesmerized. Hmmm, IDEA. Do a reaction to an entire album? Send out a poll. Invite reactors to create. Have some kind of half time event between sides A and B. Have sponsors and get yourself some rewards. Huh?!
Fantastic job. Rush were such a special band man, love seeing people reacting to this one, especially first timers. I was fortunate to see them live 13 (lucky!) times all in Toronto at various venues. Fond memories of half a dozen at Maple Leaf Gardens. Thanks for this!
The time signature changes in this song are INSANE. These guys are elite master musicians. Just consider that Getty is playing bass, keyboards AND singing lead vocals! Mind blowing. Rush and Steely Dan are probably the most impressive bands in terms of their musicianship.
These mashups really capture the excitement of hearing a song for the first time in a way a single reaction just can't (although I love the single reactions too)! Thank you so much for these, along with your touches in the making-of section at the end!
