I know half, anyone guess how many were Triple J hits? 🤨 The randomly chosen live performances are pretty tragic! 😵 Good to see Nick Cave included, underrated! More classic 80s music please! 😊💗
Its sad that triple J tries to dictate what is iconic Australian music, they support bands/singers and then dump them when they become “too commercial”
The producers use "into My Arms" as the sound track to the War of the Worlds (2019 TV series),, now when I hear the song it reminds me of the program, quite foreboding.
Apart from the fact this person seems to have made an effort to pick out the worst-sounding clips of these songs, he did pick some all-time classic Aussie songs.
Hey everyone, Liam from solitude, person who made the video here. If I made the video with studio recordings RU-vid copyright strikes it. I then risk getting a strike and cannot monetise the video. That is why I had to use live versions. There are ways around that but it often takes trial and error while uploading and you don't know what songs will have more strict copyright rules. I only have a small channel and make all my videos alone in my own time. So I don't have the means and time to use trial and error like a bigger countdown channel, such as WatchMojo. There is a link to a spotify list with top 30 and honourable mentions in my video description if you want to hear the studio recordings.
You need to look up Gurrumul Yunapingu. An indigenous artist who sang in his language and will move you to emotion. Worth a few minutes of your time. He performed in New York and London as well.
These lists are too subjective. I Was Only 19 by Redgum only gets a mention but Kylie gets included?! No Masters Apprentices or Stonefield, Russell Morris and Skyhooks only get a mention, no Smiley, no... ah, wtf, everyone will come up with a different list. There is so much great Aussie music worth checking out!
Two songs that probably should have been on the list are (a) "I Still Call Australia Home" by Peter Allen; and (b) "We are Australian" by the Seekers. To be fair though, there's a lot that could be used. Most of them are old songs though, because they don't tend to make songs like that anymore.
The Easy Beats were not the first Australian rock stars as we had quite a few from the 1950's including Johnny O'Keefe who was as big in the late 1950's to the mid 1960's as Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham and Michael Hutchence at their peak. While many of JO'Ks ( Johnny O'Keefe ) hits were covers of American rock songs, like Shout, the first hit JO'K wrote himself was The Wild One.......covered by many American and European bands in the 1960's and 1970's including Iggy Pop ( Real Wild Child ). Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs were bigger than The Easy Beats in the 1960's , but were only a pop band back then......then Billy discovered the Blues and Blues Rock and was even bigger than JO'K . Billy Thorpe wrote at least 2 songs that must make Australia's top 30 ......" Most People I Know ( think im crazy ) " is blues rock as good a song as any from Australia . Also " Mama " and a few more . Most of these songs have been chosen from the play list of a nerdy current radio station by someone who only listens to radio crap.
Yeah - but, JOK (while brilliant ), wasn't really well known outside of Australia - even though Suzi Quatro, & Iggy Pop did pick up on his version of "The Wild One".
@@MrCharliemcgoo Wasn't his version of Wild One, he wrote it, and it was covered by many US, English &European singers / bands back in the early 1960's. As for not being well known overseas, the English thought we still walked everywhere and lived in leanto's, the Yanks thought we were part of Germany and the Europeans thought we were Americans. lol
He picked some fairly good songs, but some truly awful video clips of them with abysmal audio, even I had a hard time identifying Khe Sanh from the audio and I know the song backwards. The studio versions of most of these songs are so much better.
I agree with you, Savage Garden should definitely be in there, and Farnsey's ''You're The Voice should be number 1. It's the most impactful and most well known song of the lot.
Don't know if I would agree to a lot of the songs here. Where did this guy get his stats from? But I love that you are interested in our Aussie music. Love your channel.
Some great artists and songs that definitely deserve more international recognition. Australia most successful period was probably the 1980s-Crowded House, AC/DC, Angry Anderson and Men At Work regularly charting in the US and UK.
Using the Triple J's top Aussie songs list is useless. Triple J is not a mainstream radio channel and it prides itself on being niche indie. In fact a lot of Aussie actually HATE Triple J since they play weird non commercial junk. This is why there's A LOT of bands and songs that should have been included but wasn't like Tina Arena and Savage Garden who sold way more albums and singles then most of the songs on the Triple J lists. You need to be looking at the ARIA charts if you want to see the true Aussie top 100 songs, not a list from a gov funded community radio station full of niche indie useless junk.
GangGajang? Really? If your going to list it as "of All Time", you need to look before 1980. I think Friday On My Mind was the only one. No Loved Ones, Billy Thorpe, Saints, Skyhooks? Wow
I assumed either The Seekers or Crowded House with "Don't Dream It's Over" would be Number 1. How wrong I was. I bought my first records in London in 1960 and have, literally, never heard of most of these including The Number 1..lol
Bloody hell, this is a damn fine list. I recently sailed into Sydney Harbour and 'Khe Sahn' was running through my head. If you're Aussie, you know. It would be great for you to React to the full versions of some of the songs you hadn't heard.
Crowded House is a NZ band Formed by Neil Finn and then joined by his brother Tim and his two sons Liam and Elroy. The band was formed during the Split End farewell tour (Neil & Tim and Paul Hester were all members of Split End and the debut album featured tracks produced by another Enz memberEddie Rayner who then joined the band). And later on were joined by yet another Kiwi Don McGlashan
Um, no, Crowded House was Neil Finn from NZ, and Australians Paul Hester and Nick Seymour. Eddie toured with them briefly, and Tim was with them for 1 album. But essentially they were a 3 piece from Melbourne...
I have lived in Australia all my life, and some of these I agree with, but some I wouldn't even have in there. This is my own personal opinion, but the one I would put at number 1 is John Farnham's ''You're The Voice.''
Wow i am an Aussie and this top 30 is clearly a personal selection by the maker of this video.. Losts of songs in this list that i have never even heard..
THis must be the presenters personal opinion as this is a very strange mix. Into My Arms by Nick Cave is such a beautiful song, if, Check that one out. I was a young Teen when ACDC came out with Its a Long way to the top if you want to rock and roll, we all used to sing, it's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll as kids :) oh the memories haha
Many other's better Seeker's i am you are we are Australians Peter Allen I call Australia 🇦🇺 home This list is only his perspective Hundreds of others song So to title them as top 30 wrong Title should be Famous Aussie songs as depended on the individual's prefer genre's Because thousands of great Aussie songs Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
You can hear the dormant rhythms of AC/DC with this track because of the hard driving rhythm the lead guitar. I asked ChatGPT for the connection between the Easy Beats and AC/DC. AC/DC has a significant connection to The Easybeats through the brothers George Young and Malcolm Young. George Young was a member of The Easybeats, contributing as a guitarist and songwriter. After The Easybeats disbanded, George became a highly influential record producer. Meanwhile, George's younger brother, Malcolm Young, was inspired by his brother's musical career. Malcolm co-founded AC/DC along with his brother Angus Young. Malcolm and Angus formed the core of AC/DC and were pivotal in its success as a legendary rock band. The influence and guidance of George Young, who had a successful career in music production, played a crucial role in shaping AC/DC's early years and their sound. The Young brothers' musical legacy is deeply tied to both The Easybeats and AC/DC.
Some of these songs were not the greatest version of the original as they were Live or sung when the band members were much older. The original versions were so much better
Now that you have a list of great Australian artists and bands, you should check them out; even if you do it for your own benefit. Australian music has been vibrant since the 60's, and is still going strong; a lot more current artists and bands are making international headway, which is due to the actions of those that came before them.
GANGgajang's Sounds Of Then works because it's a brilliant portrait of The Hummock, which is part of Greater Bundaberg, during the summer, which is where the lead singer's family emigrated to when he was a teenager.
Yes, Number 10. the Easybeats were big in the UK in the 60s as well. AC/DC used to come home at Christmas to record and be home. Angus still lives in Sydney. The 2 guitarist from the Easybeats Harry Vanders and George Young were AC/DC recorded producers for their first 5 Albums,. George Young was Malcolm and Angus big brother. Vanders and Young became Australia's biggest producers and songwriters. Number 1 was Cold Chisle huge band in Australia. They tried to get in the American scene, but their marketing and promotion in America was band, and their time in America just gave us a good song (you got nothing I want).
Hi; If anyone from outside of Australia is sincerely interested in Aussie music: - Aus 80s Rock is awesome, bands like Cold Chisel, The Angels , Divinyls, and Hunters & Collectors are brilliant. But, please go back in time and check out some historical stuff 1960/70s. Johnny O’keefe, The Easybeats, Daddy Cool, (featuring George Young, brother of Malcom & Angus), Masters Apprentice, The Loved Ones & The Saints; 1970/80s Ac/Dc (with BonScott), & Rose Tattoo …etc.
What? No Airbourne? Seekers? Rolf Harris? Geoffrey Gurrumul Yurupingu? Thirsty Merc? King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard? I know these list are personal and subjective but still . . . come on!!!
In my opinion 29, 27, 26, 23, 22, 21, 20, would never make most Australians list - never heard of most of them or there are 100's of other songs that would be included ahead of singers like Kylie
Khe Sanh, in all seriousness, the most over-rated song in Australian history, followed by anything by Midnight Oil. Mate, you have missed nothing never hearing this.
Crazy to think the number 1 song is about 12 or so pilots in Australia who served in Vietnam and then flew choppers on oil rigs, and one of them was my father.
Im Australian and this guys choices for Australian top songs was absolutely terrible. You should watch other’s because he hasn’t got a clue and he definitely hasn’t used any statistics to make his list 🇦🇺
So many more that deserve recognition but i see from this guys lack of appreciation that you have to be born Aussie to have all of this and so much more live in your soul.
Keep Sanh isn't even my favourite Chisels song....and Back in Black definitely over Long Way.....abd I'd have Evie at number one. Leaving it out of the top 30 is a crime.
do yourself a favour and look up the studio version of each song. i understand he's picked snippets of low quality live recordings to avoid youtube copyright strikes. but if you've never heard those songs before i couldn't blame you for thinking some of the best are terrible.
@@miketran4289 I haven’t listened to the radio in gee, a few years. Guess I’m senior enough 🥴lol, have watched so many on TV. I guess. Oh yeah, I used to listen to the radio in my car in the 1970s, gawd I’m old 😂
Thee Australian Punk Rock anthem of the 90's ....WoW big call. Here's me thinking anything by X, Mark of Cain even Garry Davids 'Peanut Butter and Vegemite. But Music, what can ya say. Cosmic Psycho's anybody ?
