the amount of reading done without any sense of guilt has to probably be the only positive thing about this situation! and also the amount of content booktubers are putting out, all these reading vlogs are just [chefs kisses]
People are probably freezing the fruits and vegetables that they're stocking up on. I stocked up on some already frozen fruits and vegetables because if I end up having to self-quarantine I don't wanna be without fruits and veggies for 2 whole weeks
A Wrinkle in Time was required reading when I was in like Elementary or Middle School. One of my first introductions to SciFi. It holds a special place in my heart. 😊
If these vlogs are helping you, keep making them! I know a lot of people will also be looking for things to do, and watching your videos are always entertaining! :)
Oh yeah, here in the Czech Republic, schools are closed for at least two weeks (one week in, one to go??), so I also have plenty of time for reading and just chilling. Stay safe guys and wash your hands a lot!!! 💞 💞 💞 💞
Be sure to stay safe there! And i am actually really sad right now because my roommates from the Netherlands are actually flying back there because of the virus. (I currently live in Mexico), so this is a really damn sad situation.. :/ i was also learning dutch because of them
Highly recommend checking out Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado-Perez. Surprisingly easy to read even though it's mostly stats.
Your experience with "beautiful prose" is what I had with Frankenstein. I restarted audiobook in English about 3 times before deciding to switch to an audiobook in my native language, as regardless of how hard I was trying to stay focused, narration just didn't want to stay in my head! I have an overall rule now - don't listen to audiobooks in English if they were written before 1900s - either read in physical format or listen as translated work👍
When you first mentioned outspoken in the vlog I was like YES I'm starting this today so now I'm disappointed it's not about what you first thought it was. And also yes you are definitely not alone in this. I struggle with speaking so much, and the irony with this I do speak a lot ( kinda ) like.. with my group of friends or my siblings I definitely talk a lot. But I doubt myself a lot and find myself embarrassed mid sentence or just panic a little and lose words?? And it's worse with people I don't know well. Like I get so awkward and can't tell a proper story and feel everyone disconnecting. I think it comes a little from the fear of being unheard. Idk I've felt so much growing up like what I'm saying is stupid and not worth it.
You already have the perfect access to understand authentic feminism the way, though, life of the Prophet peace be upon and his wives and daughters. It's all there and it's amazing. Hadiths. Qur'an.
In regards to being part of the discussion I would recommend keeping an eye contact with the person who's speaking, maybe even lean in a bit to signal you are about to say something.
If you are searching for more feminist nonfiction to read: I would really recommend "In Search of our Mother's Gardens" by Alice Walker, The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir, "This Bridge called my Back", and look into Dr. Kimberle Crenshaw! I also think that there are other books with more specific topics (such as "Revolutionary Mothering" or "The Girls who Went Away") that are still pretty amazing reads!
Stay safe people! In Spain we are struggling, we can only get out of home with a justified reason or we get a huge fine, which I hope will be effective in this situation. I graduated in medicine last year and we are starting to get calls to work, even if we were supposed to choose specialty next month and start in May. I guess all of that will be delayed. We are kind of panicking but on the other hand really willing to help actively, but until then what we can do for one another is staying home and enjoy all those things we've been taking for granted ❤ hope the pancakes were nice! 😋
Omg the Veronica rueckert book sounds v gooood! Ik heb ook nog aanraders: bitch doctrine van laurie penny, misogynation door Laura Bates en things men explain to me (?) van Rebecca Solnit. Allemaal non fictie!!! Liefs ❤️❤️❤️
I have Delusions of Gender by Cordelia Fine on my tbr, which is about the scientifical gender studies. It's on Scribd as well and I believe also as audiobook.
i read this book last year and it blew my mind! part 2 specifically is mindblowing bc it goes super deep into the science and methodology! hope u enjoy it!
@@itsabooksworld Fine has a pretty conversational tone, she's pretty sarcastic and witty! part 1 and 3 read faster than part 2, because they're more focused on analyzing the sociological and psychological aspects, while part 2 focuses on the neuroscience and methodology, so it all flew by pretty easily for me because i'm a psych student already! nevertheless, its still a really engaging read even if you have little to no background on the subjects :-)
I honestly don't get why people think that being on quarantine equals going for walks... quarantine means that you stay in your freaking house. Grocery shopping is ok but not going on a 2 hours long walk after that: you go grocery shopping and then come back home, that's it
How is grocery shopping, where you’ll be in a close distance with dozens of people, better than a walk, where you’ll maybe see a few and can keep a larger distance?
Social distancing is mood lately tbh and btw since I'm new here, are you interested in reading a novel manuscript? I'm currently writing a fantasy novel atm and having a beta reader to discuss about the development of novels like worldbuilding and characters and the plot would be a blessing. If it sounds boring, it's alright, but if you're interested, I could send you the first few chapters to see if you wanna continue or not. Dankje in advance
