As a disabled person and disability prof at the college level: Forest Gump is incredibly ableist. Forest is clearly disabled. The movie treats him poorly and most characters take advantage of him.

I used to work in a church office doing accounting and even if they aren't taxed, i do think there should be more regulations about how churches are allowed to spend their money. The pastors used to spend hundreds a month on lunches and expensive fancy electronics on top of making $100k+ a year salary. It grossed me out so much. Left for lots of reasons lol

My mom and dad both walked me down, my brother was my man of honor and my cousins were bridesmen!! My mom’s generation was shook by how untraditional my wedding was, then my brother followed suit lol!! I was his best woman and my sister and cousin were on his side!! We loved it and plan to continue this with the rest of the weddings in our family!! It’s your day and you only get it once, do what you’d like!!! 💕💖 love this episode and you ladies!!! The privilege it requires to have access to travel is something that a great deal of people don't have access to. I will say though, the definition of what traveling means needs nuance - growing up we could not afford to travel overseas, but we could travel to the mountains for a weekend (that my mom saved all year for) and that was traveling for us. I think it is more nuanced than that, but the notion that traveling exclusively means overseas etc. is overrated because it negates local travel opportunities that are more accessible.

I kind of agree with the traveling comment, and it has nothing to do with money. Traveling is incredibly stressful and filled with anxiety and super overwhelming. I am very ashamed to feel like I would rather just stay home. The only thing that keeps me traveling is knowing that when I’m older, I want to be able to say that I’ve seen other places in the world. But, start to finish, a trip just leaves me completely completely obliterated physically and mentally. I need a few days when I get home to get myself back to baseline. I may have a different perspective because I have a chronic pain disorder, but sometimes I worry that I only travel so that I can tell other people that I’ve traveled. Not because I enjoy traveling. 😢❤

I also agree with the idea that traveling is overrated as someone who used to live abroad. First of all, travel contributes to carbon emissions which contribute to climate change. Second of all, a lot of times the benefits you get from traveling only come when you have a highly structured situation such as doing a program or visiting people you know. A lot of times you don’t actually have high quality interactions with locals unless you invest time/money into structured activities. Traveling doesn’t automatically open your mind or expose you to other cultures *more than engaging with other cultures in the place where you already are*. I live in New Orleans and I don’t need to leave the New Orleans metro to engage with Vietnamese or Honduran culture; I can visit businesses and neighborhoods in Vietnamese and Honduran communities. Tourism is also contributing to the degradation of places like Venice, which has had a significant portion of its population pushed out in favor of wealthy digital nomads occupying short term rentals that used to be long term housing for locals. I think that traveling can be overrated when it contributes to exploitative, extractive tourism. I also think that there’s a lot of classism and ableism in upholding travel as some kind of irreplaceable path to opening your mind and experiencing cultures beyond your own. Traveling can be awesome, especially when it’s done in an ethical way that enriches visitors and the host communities alike. But I think making people feel like their life experiences are less valuable because they haven’t been able to access international travel is not good.

Omg girlies love the hot takes! I want to add to the church one, when I was 16 I went on a missions trip to Tanzania with my very Christian school and the nicest place we went to by far was this one pastors house. We literally pulled up on a dirt road pot holes and all, mostly actual mud hutts around and then he had a nice ass mansion and multiple fancy cars. He also had like hella food which his literal neighbours did not, makes sense why a lot of those people really don’t like a lot of missionaries and other Christians:/

I feel like it's no longer a hot take for people to love pitbulls. My hot take is that there is a kernel of truth to why people didn't like pitbulls. There's no hiding that they were bred to be aggressive and fight and they are universally the biggest proportion of dog bites and dog related deaths. Do I think that means that all pitbulls are inherently bad and can't be wonderful pets? Absolutely not. I think it's a combination of genetics and the types of people who buy pitbulls to look tough and don't bother training or socializing them.

Amen! My pitbull is the sweetest, cuddliest most timid creature (she gets bullied by our cats) BECAUSE I was militant with her training. If she ever got loose, a lot of people would view her as a loaded gun and give her zero chances to act out of pocket. My little dog on the other hand...our training has been more lax and it shows...

If y’all get iPads, as a musical theater girly, I highly recommend forScore, I had my entire libretto on there and it’s super easy to take notes and highlight and stuff, and there’s a built in keyboard to practice when you aren’t around a piano or whatever!also-pineapple and jalapeño is the ultimate combo for pizza and if you’re feeling wild adding pepperoni is amazing tooooo 😊 and planet oat extra creamy oatmilk is also good

I had the best untraditional wedding ever and I couldn’t be more thankful! 12 of our closest friends and family went to Colorado and got married on a mountain at 11,000 ft elevation in 12 degrees and I wore a green cape and our songs were happy and not sad it was truly magical.

As a person who currently works in a church, I will say that not every church makes millions of millions of dollars. In fact, the church I work for does not. I do think there needs to be some kind of regulations when it comes to churches or tell evangelist that make a ton of money and most of the money goes to the Pastor. That is not the case at the church I work for, and our church building is very dated from the 60s, And most of our money goes into the running of the church, staff salaries, and the ministry both within our church and outside in our community.

But it it is a little sweet since it's vanilla so either they may just have regular or just don't pour that much. I kind of think you guys took the Taylor Swift opinion the wrong way. It didn’t say “being indifferent to TS” or “Disliking TS” it said “hating,” which imo is more intentional and strong. And yeah, I know a ton of people who are proud to say they hate Taylor Swift. Could they explain why beyond thinking she’s overhyped? No. But they know she’s the biggest artist in the world atm and they think it makes them edgy and cool to intentionally hate her. And I agree with the opinion that it doesn’t. That being said, when I was 15 I definitely intentionally “hated” a bunch of popular things because I thought it make me edgy and interesting, so I can’t blame anyone for having that opinion unless they’re actually an adult lol

27:36 i am a christian and i agree some churches use that money for nefarious purposes. But others genuinely use those funds for people in need, or people who need it in the church. For example if some in the church needs a new transmission for their car, the church would give the money to pay for it.

Had to pause listening on Apple podcasts just to come to the RU-vid video and comment; tradition is just peer pressure from dead people. Do whatever you want! My biological father and I are no contact, and my dad (stepdad) was the officiant at my wedding. I walked myself down the aisle 🤍 fathers don’t own their daughters, and spouses are not then taking over said ownership. I stepped into my partnership and marriage intentionally and of my own volition. There was no reason, to me, for anyone else to accompany me down the aisle.

A girl I went to school with we both married into the same last name... She had her child a year before me and when she announced her childs name I was like oh no... We will have the same child's first and last name and I went to school with another girl who had an almost identical name to me off by like 1 letter. But I was SO inlove with that name I could not even want to change it. Now.. If we have a second boy we wanted Miles.... But uh that is off the list because my cousin who is not very well liked named her first child Miles and every time I hear Miles now I cannot see anything but her kid lol. Ally, you and I can be besties. In n Out is trash. I’m not a burger girl to be fair and I’m gf so can’t have the bun. I lovvvee fries though and literally how do they fuck up their fries sooo badly. 1. why do they not salt the fries? Fries are really potatoes with salt but they leave out the second half… and salt doesn’t stick unless added fresh out of the fryer. 2. Their fries are very cardboard in texture. Hard disagree that it’s the lack of preservatives that make theirs trash. Five guys also does everything super fresh and their fries are bomb. Homemade fries are also bomb. In n Out just sucks at 50% of their menu lol

I have a lot of hot takes about weddings, but this is the crux and likely the reason for all my hot takes - traditions are invented and they are not the same across the board. I am of the belief that you should do the thing that makes the most sense to you.

Forest Gump is overrated in terms of it being called “one of the greatest movies ever” because it is VERY niche and a very American movie so it’s properly rated in the US but overrated as a global film…my take 😊

Yes it's not just Goldens that are hairy lol. I have a short hair pit shepherd mix and his hair is everywhere lol. But it's okay riayn you get a pass for not being a fan. Tbh I thought you weren't a dog or animal person in general lol just my own assumption. 😅
