Would’ve loved to hear P and Riayn talk about the pressure to get engaged/married in your 20s especially P being in a long term relationship

Yes I completely agree. Got with my husband when I was 21 and then we got married when I was 28 but dang it was rough because other peoples opinions before hand. Still thankful we waited though it was super special.

I got married 8 months ago - no engagement party, my 4 bridesmaids and I went to Universal for my bachelorette, and we had a 65 people wedding for $6,000 (including dress, husband’s suit, rings, EVERYTHING). It’s still possible to have the wedding of your dreams without making you or your friends broke (but it does take planning and the reality check that social media is not life).

Girl OG listener here: haven’t even listened to this section yet but you definitely talked about your dad wanting to be table number 1 instead of table number 2! So weird that a 25 year old in Iowa who watched your wedding vlogs/Sierra Unfiltered knows so much about your life. 😭😂💕

This episode makes me so thankful for my wedding 💛 got engaged in June, married in October, no parties, no invites, just asked 12 of our bffs and loved ones to a cabin in Colorado and got married on a mountain in 12 degrees in a snow storm with two feet of snow and then went back to the cabin and got drunk and spent the weekend together it was freaking awesome!!!

Not weddings ending at 10pm 😭 I honestly think the US has so much to learn from other cultures' weddings, my wedding ended at 4 am it was the most fun. I've only been to 2 US weddings and they were low key boring. I also think the rehearsal dinner is kind of unnecessary and a waste of money.

@swimgirl24

It’s just a different culture. As an American married to a European, I’ve been to weddings in the states and abroad. Personally I don’t enjoy the party until the sunrise weddings as much as the ones that ended early. I was too exhausted to enjoy myself. There was also triple the amount of drinking and people were so so drunk. Like you’d think we were at a college frat party with some of the stories I have lol. We extended our USA wedding until 12 am to accommodate my husband’s friend and family and of all the guests, no Americans stayed until the end except me and my dad. Not to bash either side but just giving context on why it is like it is. I think the party hard culture isn’t as common once you’re an “adult” and therefore the late weddings don’t make as much sense. (My husband is German so I’m also exclusively comparing German to American weddings)

I nannied/babysat a lot as a teen and lived in a town that has a lot of wedding venues. I was hired a lot to help with the kids at weddings and then usually after food and a little dancing I’d take the kids to wherever the parents had decided on and let the adults party on. I always thought that was a good system to let kids come but not have it be too much!

I was 12 weeks pregnant at my cousin's wedding. My grandma was chomping at the bit to tell everyone there about it since we officially hit the "safe" zone then. I had to really put my foot down and i said "we are not taking away the attention from your other grandchild. You can tell everyone tomorrow but today is about them. Dont you dare." So friggin awkward!

I had an extra room at my venue for getting ready for the ceremony. After that, they tidied it up, and I asked a friend’s sister to babysit! So during the party, the kids could go downstairs and color and watch Disney movies. It was a great way to involve them, while still letting their parents have fun and keeping them away from the alcohol! There were only 4 kids there, but it was definitely worth it!

Sierra, you mention it being awful that women order a dress a size down because they want to lose weight, but you forget to mention that you did that exact thing. You said in one of your wedding vlogs that you were nervous to try on the dress because you ordered it a size smaller because you planned to lose 15lbs. I'm not here to shame you for doing that but I think this conversation would have been much more interesting had you brought that up and talked about how your mindset has changed since then.

Omg do I have a story for you! So I got married (almost 2 yrs now, in June) and I had hired a makeup artist. I can do my own makeup pretty well but thought it would be nice for my bridesmaids to get pampered as well as me. So I do a trial, pretty far in advance and really liked it. On the day of my wedding, of course, everyone is running around and I’m running late to where we were all supposed to meet. To be more respectful I think to call her to let her know (also make sure she’s okay). I call and she says, “I’m on my way, I just talked to the bride and I’ll be there in 5 minutes!!” I never see or hear from her again! She disappeared into thin air!!🙈🙈😭😭

One thing I didn’t know about but thought was really fun was my aunt at the bridal shower collected all the ribbons from the gifts and made a bouquet for the rehearsal dinner! We also had my husband come for when we opened gifts so he didn’t get left out! I also do regret ( cause I hate confrontation) my dress, the shop ordered two sizes up and by the time the fitting came I had dropped 60 pounds and I was standing in the dress it didn’t even touch me. The seamstress had a hard time making it small enough, I had to gain weight back and it was still falling down at the wedding.

Important, when you are in a wedding make sure you wear a slip under your dress if it is a thin fabric and might be see through if the wedding party will be photographed outside, or will be see through on a dance floor, or during the ceremony with church lighting.

1:02:33 I loved that at the courthouse we could chose how to verify the marriage. We got like 3 options. We chose the Christian version because we're Christian. Same with our officiant, who was also my husband grandfather because he's a pastor, and married both sets of our parents which made it extra special. I loved our ceremony. I could talk for days about my wedding, it was absolutely perfect

I'm a little bitter about weddings. I planned my dream wedding and everything was planned and ready for May 2020.....tried to postpone but it was too much so we just got married in the backyard with immediate family. I wish I could have experienced the original plan but everything happens for a reason and we took the money we were able to get back for a down payment on a house.

I absolutely hated doing the seating chart. My first mistake was asking people for their input. 😅 then we had people that cancelled last minute, which made some table more bare then others. It was a mightmare. Then I tried to put all the bridesmaids partners together because they had met previously. Then I had one person the day of the wedding move one of the partners to their table, so then the other partner sat alone. This was after I had already told said person why I was sitting them together. I was upset, because I felt so bad for the one partner sitting alone and he is more on the quiet side too.

My husband and i will be celebrating 20 years of marriage in 2025. We were on a very tight budget. Our venue was free, my mom made all the dresses, my aunt did all the flowers, and my inlaws did mens attire and odds and ends. We have pictures others took during that day… but no professional ones. Only thing i wish we had. The biggest thing was it was a backyard wedding… and we got a freak rain storm… so in many of our photos you can see tarps over flowers. Also, want to add her. My family planned my shower which was a surprise…. But it was planned on a day where i got an infusion of medication, so i was not fully aware after 6 hours of an IV and Benadryl on top of that. I have no pictures and dont remember it a ton…. But would have been nice if somebody checked my schedule.

Sierra ILY truly but I’m 100% team dad on that argument. If he was paying for the wedding, it is only appropriate that he be table 1. The guests who are paying for most of the wedding are the guests of honor behind the bride and groom so they should be table 1. I also feel like it was a tiny request compared to what most parents who pay for the wedding ask. Like why not just make your family odds and steven’s even instead? Like just flip it? Honestly you’re lucky he even continued to pay for everything after the ego comment like I could never say that to my dad and get away with it I wouldn’t even be mad at him for that cause dang 😅

I'm currently planning my wedding, no we did not have an engagement party. I have no idea if we do any bachelor/ette party, but if we do it'll be something joint. Our venue is an air bnb, we are doing a small two tier (or one real one fake tiered cake) that's solely for photos because I hate Cake. Instead I want a cookie desert table. Also a taco bar, because cookies and tacos are my favorite food. I plan on buying my own wedding dress, and designing all invitations/stationary as well

I got married on Thursday, the 31st of October (Halloween). I wore a black dress and the only other people there were my parents. It was at a registry office (I guess the UK equivalent of the courthouse maybe?), and I couldn't have had anything better. We don't really have many friends or family, I'm Autistic and couldn't think of anything worse than being centre of attention and people looking at me, plus it cost us less than £500 including rings, outfits etc. So, I'm a huge advocate for getting married, not having a wedding. The thousands and thousands it costs, the stress and drama and etiquette required for essentially a party just isn't worth it to me. However, if people don't have to worry about money and they have friends and family to celebrate them, it makes sense. Especially taking into consideration that saying about weddings and funerals! Oh also, obviously no engagement party, no bridal shower (I think these are more of an American tradition that is seeping into the UK like Prom did) and no hen do etc!

My hot take is that there is nothing wrong with a big wedding, but if you can't afford that, have the wedding you can afford and don't feel pressured to do it like everyone else. I do think that there is still some etiquette that should be followed though, like don't cut corners by trying to make the guests pay for themselves or not serving food. Second hot take is no pay, no say. If you don't want to invite your MIL's cousins, co-workers, and all her friends, don't take her money. But if someone else is contributing to the wedding they kind of do have a say in it. So if you have a dramatic and controlling family member who will override your decisions on the location, flowers, cake, etc, seriously consider if you want to accept their money if it means they will be involved in the planning process. Personally, we had a small

I have a hot take - I've been married 34 years so an ilder viewer. I think the emphasis on all the parties/celebrations is misplaced. The important thing is the marriage, not the wedding, reception/party, etc etc. There's no need to feel like u need to spend soooo much money because everyone else does. It'll be a special day no matter how much $ u spend, just make sure to do some personal touches and you'll remember it forever!

Wedding hot takes from a 2023 bride: -You don’t have to pay for an open bar to have a good time. We had a variety of nonalcoholic drinks and a large quantity of diy sangria (my fave) to save money & to limit temptation for some loved ones that struggle with sobriety. -Having kids at my wedding made it more fun! No one was self conscious about getting on the dance floor because the kids were out there ALL night long. They even made me friendship bracelets for in lieu of wedding gifts

We planned a bunch of moments for us to appreciate our wedding, it was really important given the time, money, and emotional investment. We wanted to make sure to enjoy it. Still my favorite memory from that day

I’m usually so chill about weddings and totally fine with whatever people want, but we had a weird situation recently. We have friends that are getting married soon and they are keeping it really small we may not get invited. I totally understood either way, I wasn’t going to be mad if we didn’t get invited. Well the invite came and my husband was invited but not me. I understand plus ones getting cut to keep the guest list down and the groom is primarily friends with my husband, but I am friends with both the bride and the groom too. Ultimately I know it’s their day and I’m really not that upset about it, it just felt like an odd way to cut the guest list.

You guys ever been to an Indian wedding? My wedding had 4 days straight of events and you need a new outfit each day. Even going as a guest is like being the bride. I did my shower and Bachelorette before. So it was alot and alot of $$ 😂

I got married 11 years ago and my mom was like Palomas' mom. She had more opinions about dress code than I did 😂 A huge one, was that she didnt want me to add my colors to the invitation because then people try to match the wedding colors. Is that a thing? Has anyone else experienced that. I couldn't care less either way, but my mom was so upset. She said it was like they were trying to incorporate themselves into the bridal party. My colors were sage and navy blue.

It’s so funny seeing different generations not know or understand the rules. I had to explain to my grandma that you’re not supposed to wear white to a wedding. The next day she decided that’s silly and wore white to my aunts wedding!!

My husband and I would have loved just having a very small and inimate wedding. However, our families started planning for a big wedding the second we got engaged and we got roped into it and our original plans didn't feel like an option anymore. I was also told multiple times that our day wasn't about us, it was about our guests and I think it's important to remember that the main purpose of a wedding is the marriage. Yes you are bringing two families together, but it's okay to make the day about yourselves, you don't have to cater to the wants of everyone else. So while I look back on my wedding with happy memories, I also flashback to the frustration and stress of trying to please everyone, we were very much a "whatever happens, happens" couple, we didn't stress about a lot of the small details but everyone else did and it was so overwhelming getting bombarded with questions and ideas on details that at the end of the day no one would remember. And I hated the idea of "it's the bride's day!" I shot down so many people who told me that because I felt my husband's ideas and wants were just as important. It felt like everyone was walking on eggshells to keep me happy when in reality I just wanted to marry my best friend and couldn't have cared less about everything that was going on outside of that.

Sorry I'm late but here's my wedding hot take: under the right conditions, proposing at someone's wedding is actually a great idea. You just have to be strategic about it. Obviously ask the couple if they're ok with it first. If either of them show hesitation about it, just don't bother. Then come up with a plan. I've seen those videos where the bride is about to do the bouquet toss and instead of throwing it, she turns around and hands it to one of the single ladies, and then the guy proposes. I think that's so sweet. It's like sharing the love from the newlyweds to the soon-to-be newlyweds. Then the party can continue and everyone can celebrate together. At this point, the married couple just had their ceremony to be all about them and it's halfway through the reception. Why not keep the good vibes going?

I’m married, and for the bridal shower my mom threw us a “wedding shower” because we did a destination wedding. For anyone who couldn’t go to the wedding they came to our shower and it was Co-Ed. Just an idea for anyone planning! 😊

Hot take: I hate weddings 😂 I love the ceremony, but I find receptions so boring (though I do love speeches!) I don’t drink and I find the dancing cringey, I just wanna go home. The food is often so mediocre too!

It would have been nice for Sierra to use herself as an example since she bought her wedding dress in a smaller size, she could have talked about how it made her feel and how she would make different choices today.

I loved my wedding last year, the only rule i had was "dont show up in white and bring a change of clothes." Cause we had our reception at a pavillion at a park with a baseball field. 9:49 my whole kitchen is practically from my bridal shower, i am so grateful for that because it saved us so much money, and mine and his family is amazing. The only items we paid for in the kitchen were an extra knife, a trash can, and a microwave. 27:24 Im the oldest of 9 grandchildren, i was 18 when i got married, there wasnt alcohol specifically at my wedding because of it, but people brought it in their cars. I love kids, and i wanted them at my wedding becsuse i love all my little cousins and i loved seeing all his younger cousins, hes also the oldest grandchild, so we wanted kids there.

This episode is so funny to me as a Brit … open bars are just not a thing here! Also … You get engaged, then it’s the stag/hen party before the wedding (Batchelor/ette) and the wedding day! No showers or anything! I eloped with 13 family members and had a reception a couple of months later for speeches, food, drinks and a band! We paid for wine for the table but otherwise there were 3 bars that people took full advantage of!

Hi from Germany! I am 42 and been married 21 years and our wedding was so low maintaince and we loved it. A few years ago I was at my god daughters wedding and they planned so much stuff and it was huge. I thought to myself "Wow, what a stressfull time that last year must have been for them?" I don't know if that really is the purposeof a wedding - but I'm kinda old, what do I know? My kids are 18, 16 and 12 and god knows what they will be up to, when they eventually marry someday.

This episode makes me so happy that in Belgium it’s not that complicated. Here it’s just the bachelorette party and the wedding, no engagement party, bridal shower, rehearsal… I love it in theory and love to celebrate love but damn, I would be so stressed to plan all of that 😂

I’d love to hear your opinions on showers for elopements! My fiancé and I are having a micro destination wedding with our closest family this month, but we had a couple’s shower to celebrate with everyone that we would have had a wedding with. My mom threw the shower but I lowkey felt guilty for having people there that weren’t invited to the wedding.

My husband and I went to his old roommates’ wedding. His old roommate forgot to tell him there was a dress code color- everyone to wear either deep green, burgundy, navy or black. I showed up in HOT PINK! I was mortified as I work in the wedding industry and know how frustrating this moment is- especially for photos. So I made sure to hide in all photos and ended up getting wasted to cope 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️
