That's the tragedy of his part in the series, not just the song. No one would listen to his warnings or crys for help (NO I DON'T COUNT QUEEN FOR A DAY CUZ THAT'S MORE COMPLEX) but now? His back is to the wall and is finally in a situation where people don't really have a choice but to, forgive the reference, listen up.
Varian’s part kinda explains how he feels after Rapunzel broke her promise; this is pure betrayal in his eyes, and cannot forgive this. He seeks to avenge his father, who is encased in ember. Varian never truly seeked to hurt anyone in any of the series, but in his eyes, it had to be done in order to get his father back.

I do really relate to Varian because he is the pinnacle of chaotic good and as a chaotic good person myself I respect that. I don't agree with his actions and would stand against him but I respect his reasons.
Okay, but the line "I'll save my home and family" applies to both Rapunzel (in this scene) and Varian (in the series thus far). He's been trying to save Old Corona, his home, from the black rocks. Now, he's trying to save his father, his family, from the amber 😥
I love how this song and the duet Varian sings later on with Cassandra ("Nothing Left to Lose") sort of echo and mirror each other, with Varian now taking on the role of the "angel on her shoulder" and trying to convince Cassandra to back down because he's been there, and he knows from personal experience that it's not a good path to go down. Particularly I love how the lines "I'm the villain, that's fine/It's no fault of mine" from Varian's villain song and "Despise me, that's fine/I'm taking what's mine" from Cassandra's villain song both mirror each other. They share similar phrasing and meaning, and even cadence. It's a really cool attention to detail that I'm not sure most people would get listening to each song for the first time. Gotta love the irony, too, of Varian trying to talk down Cassandra after she was the one to lead the charge to take him down earlier on.

Absolutely. This song got me into the show. Believe it or not, this show is actually pretty good. The first few episodes are a bit boring but the further you get, the better... Trust meh...
If you want to watch it maybe watch the first episode and then slip everything until episode 16. Before that the episodes are just filler and are a bit boring to be honest. But at episode 16, it really began (plus you get more Varian singing).
This song scratches that particular spot in my brain that needs more tts content, loves animation, loves music, especially an animation with a banger song, and I lost track of my grammar. That’s now much I love this song. It makes me happy.
I love Rapunzel,she is my favourite Princess ever,but when I heard this song for the first time I was thinking about Percy Jackson and the Titan's curse. And Luke is Varian and he talks with Artemis and Rapunzel's mother is Annabeth and Cassandra is Zöe Nightshade, Flynn is Percy, Rapunzel's father is Chiron and Rapunzel is Thalia.

Coming back to listen Tangled The Series songs after watched Encanto and realized how underrated is this great series. TTS needs more recognistion even it is ended.
I mean tbh being a villain is subjective. To Varian they are the villains. Theyre the ones who hurt him and abandoned him. So he is trying to save his family. To him they are the villains hes trying to beat. I feel like thats the best kind of antagonist. Hes not driven by a want to hurt people but rather a drive to do something that happens to be the opposite of the protagonist
