Ready or not, this hay needs DONE. ...but will we beat the RAIN?

Its that time of year again... we are getting ready for our most stressful (and smallest) crop we grow. HAY.
It took us a few days to prepare, as we cut, waited for it to dry down a bit, then merged two rows into one.
Ethan was on tap for the chopping of the hay, and Devon was here to bag it for storing.
Meanwhile, my great idea of letting the nanny run out milk powder to wean the last of the bottle babies backfired.

As much as I love the sheep side of the Brock farm, I love the field side too. There is something comforting and reassuring about watching planting and harvesting. It's a reminder of where our food comes from and all the work farmers put into feeding us. Thank you, Sandi and Mark, for working your booties off to feed us. Y'all are appreciated. ❤

Yes, brings back memories of growing up on a farm in the 50’s and 60’s. My dad would enter a brome, alfalfa,or clover field 4 to 6 times to sickle bar cut, rake, bale small rectangular, then load onto flat bed trailers (2 to 4) loads before stacking in barn or hay shed. All hay needed had to be done before going on any 4 to 6 day vacation. Thank goodness for 2 brothers!

I get to hear the sheep again. I broke up with a boy cuz my dad was sick and I was plowing and he came marching across the field mad cuz we had a date and I said beating the rain was more important and he didn't like that answer.lol. We picked rocks and stacked hay bales in the barn loft. Got fresh veggies from the garden for meals. Picked berries and apples, plums for desert. All those cousins were lactose intolerant, an irony for sure. Learned not to wear straw colored slacks in the calf barn or they will nibble them right off. Great times.

I felt like my body remembered the whole experience around my husband's unexpected death when I was 26. Each year around the different anniversaries, my body felt it before my mind told me. I believe it's a natural response to trauma /grief/ having your whole life turned upside down, so don't fight it -- it will make no difference other than giving you a headache. Making hay while the moon shines! My mom told stories of stooking (hay? wheat?) and having a mouse run up her trousers! Good to catch glimpse of Jess!💕💕

I really enjoy seeing your drone footage! It gives a different view of what's going on. My husband also loves flying his drones, yes, he has more than one 😏 So it makes exciting for me to see you fly yours. He actually let me fly at once. But your flying has gotten much better. You get some really really good shots.

I've been asking my doctor, "I've never been this old before. Is this normal?" 😂

😂😂😂😂😂😂 normal for a 35 year old or a 65 year old?? That must be part of the question!!😂😂😂

This is what I meant about post chemo being like being a soldier back from combat: you are still full of all the emotions from that combat, and trying to function in the normal world. It doesn't really ever go away, but it does get less. My child was 15 months when she started chemo, and she is almost 21. I still can't handle seeing babies with cancer. It is still really raw. That said, I've learned to let go and let God when it comes to daily life. He has always had her future in His hands, and any control I had was really an illusion. No one ever gets through this life without suffering. Even those who seem to live a charmed life eventually have to die. It is a universal experience. The question is only what we do with that suffering, and what God does with that suffering.

Same. I was told incompatible with life. My husband of the time chose to fly out to work. ....it does sneak up occasionally.

Sandi - the way you two work together is awesome ! Especially when you worked together with the loaders. It's like you both have the same mindset - so your working together is so smooth and elegant - no yelling at each other - a lovely example of how to trust each others abilities. Thanks for taking the time to take us along on your busy day. Thanks for teaching us. That lady from central Minnesota - Phyllis

Haying ! Brings back memories of summers at my Grandparent's farm. We planted it, cut it, raked it, bailed it, through it on wagons and mowed it into barns. Great time with extended family working together.

I really enjoy the Farming Videos, not as much as the Sheep, but a lot nonetheless. It's fascinating and the Drone footage is very Cinematic, well done Sandi. I hope Eathan gets his hay situation sorted out well and quickly. Congrats on Jess' year of recovery! I know the date of Chemo's start is painful, but as the years pass, it will ache less, and Jess is healthy now, and will stay healthy too, you know it! She's tough, smart, and too stubborn for anything else!

I honestly never thought I could see something special about moving manure, bit the way you and Mark coordinated your two vehicles was amazing. I was thinking you even seem to second sense each other even over loading manure! That's love, it truly is ❤ No words needed, just working in harmony x

Love and hugs to you so much and I am so delighted that I caught you 47 seconds after you posted. I've been looking forward to this for the past 2 days as I am sick in bed and coughing up a storm regardless of how beautiful it is here in South Carolina. I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip down to my neck of the woods. Basically in Savannah I've always wanted to go there myself but have been pretty much on the other side over by Charleston and while Savannah is much more, I think genteel Charleston has a lot of history that being a history buff means a lot to me. Much love and as always keeping you and your family in prayer. And please remember me and my son. My son is now become a double diabetic amputee and this loss part of his left hand due to his diabetes and apparently he's also had a couple of strokes and is losing his eyesight. But he still says he wants to hang around and I'm not going to quibble with him on that point. Just remember us in your prayers if you will as I do every occupant on your farm and roundabout as well as your friends in Scotland. God bless you girl. You are some kind of far out woman and I am so delighted to know you and to know of you.
