Such a great video! It was very informative and the bloopers at the end were so funny lol! I've enjoyed Actionkid's videos for some time now. I find them very relaxing and a good way to become familiar with the area if you don't live nearby. NYC is so dense it's hard to relay solely on a map at times.

An other very inexpensive hotel choice is Youth hostels , if your college age and used to living in dorm type housing. They are simple and basic but worth looking into !!

Hello! I just watched your full video with Actionkid's channel. (The one where you were touring through Arthur Avenue). You had mentioned you had never heard of Alfredo sauce. Béchamel sauce (Balsamella/Colletta) is one of the 5 mother sauces in French cuisine. It's a basic white sauce constructed from a roux. Speaking about saving money....Actually there is now a huge tourist attraction on Staten Island that's also a budget destination. It's called Empire Outlets: a 350,000 square foot retail and dining center that's right next to St. George Terminal where the Staten Island Ferry docks. Outlets sell designer brands at huge discounts. Empire Outlets opened in the Spring of this year and when completed it will have 100 designer outlets. Many tourists come to New York to shop. To get to designer outlets they would previously have had to go to New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Upstate New York. Now they can get to many of those outlets without leaving New York City, using the free Staten Island Ferry. And of course any item of clothing that cost less than $100 is not taxed in the city. This place is already attracting large numbers of bargain hunting shoppers both locals and tourists.

It's just scaffolding, but sometimes nicknamed "sidwalk sheds". New York has laws that buildings in a certain height range need to have maintenance on their facade every so often so the owners of the buildings often cheap out and leave up the scaffolding for future work. I think there have been more recent law changes forcing some of them to be removed though.

Nice budget tips from Actionkid but I don't think dumpster diving is necessary. Those who need to dumpster dive are in a more desperate situation than some of us. Please save the dumpster diving for those in more need than us looking for some budget tips. Thanks for sharing.

Parking garages are really expensive in NYC. I live in New Jersey, and the parking garage here is way more cheaper than in NYC. For example, here's a link for one of the many parking garages in Jersey City www.squareramp.com (I don't own it, so am not advertising). Go to Google Maps and you will see a ton of parking garages in the Journal Square area of Jersey City. Here, also we have storages everywhere. If you want to know more about New Jersey, you can check my channel. I have tons of videos of New Jersey. New Jersey is just across the river from NYC and you can use the PATH train or buses.

Well it would be in Europe for sure! As far as I know, giving away food (that is not sellable) to anyone is illegal for commercial activities. In Europe nobody would agree to do so: the risk would be too high. Does it really work in Canada?

@@WhatashameMaryJane We are the NEW World . We make up our own rules . My mother was great at winning over people to do good things . The food that is collected goes to kitchens in homeless shelters and is not for sale commercially . Now you have your work cut out for you ..... Mary . No excuses , whatever I can do to help . I will try to do . That is all my mother did was , give it her best shot . It was a full house at her funeral . I miss my mother Mary Gloria . You two have the gift of caring for others , it is a blessing with a big responsibility but God is Infinite , so you have that going for you .

Actually dumpster diving is not meant to be a budgeting practice, but it's a movement against the absurdities of consumerism and against food waste, mainly for environmental reasons.

No nutshells. We explain everything thoroughly in the video and I have hours of other videos on my channel to show that even "if you can't afford it" (which is my case), you can still experience NYC and have a great time there. And yes my favorite areas to visit are the rural ones, but I will always suggest to visit this great city, to anyone with any budget.

Ho vissuto a Miami e ciò che più mi mancava era la storia e la cultura che noi Italiani (ed Europei) viviamo e respiriamo ogni giorno. New York è diversa e divulgare le occasioni culturali gratuite che la città offre sarebbe, secondo me, interessante. In bocca al lupo!
