I have suffered from anemia due to my heavy periods. I'm 39 and started using the patch. It's done WONDERS on my body. I don't know how I could miss out this great quality of life on the patch ALL THESE YEARS. For starters, my periods are shorter and lighter 🥳 I'm pretty sure my anemia is getting better, I have more energy, and I don't get as hungry or / get cravings in the evenings . 🙌🏻

I would recommend the patch personally. I’ve been using the patch for 5 years straight now and it has done an amazing job! There has been time when I forget to change the patch for a day or two and I did not get pregnant-do not do! But overall, it’s a great birth control method to try despite some itchiness sometimes from where to patch is located.

Girly I know you didn't ask for my unsolicited advice but your input reminded me of my past self. I apologize if I accidently assume anything incorrectly. For context, I lost my virginity a month before I turned 21 (I am now 24) and since I was already on the pill, I felt bold enough to lose my virginity to a random guy from Tinder. Yikes. I would love to encourage you to wait for a loving person and not engage in hookup culture if you can. If I could warn myself back when I was your age I would. I took birth control for a hormone issue originally but then I got reckless. Life happens and I learned lessons along the way. Wishing you all the best ❤ I guess I was frustrated at waiting so long and getting made fun of by my peers that I had developed an "all or nothing" mentality that was super destructive from many points of view. If I could tell myself back then that it's okay to wait I would. It may seem like common sense but back then I was bored cuz it was during the initial lockdown. Not my proudest moment. Just my random 2 cents I know you didn't ask for. Good luck on your birth control journey 😊

Switched to the patch from having the arm implant (Nexplanon). I REALLY wanted to love the implant but my experience with it.. the cons outweighed the pros. Starting the patch I IMMEDIATELY stopped spotting (something I had dealt with on the daily with nexplanon), I lost even more weight (I was 135LBS starting nexplanon, after 2 years of being on it i weighed 125LBS when I got it removed, now I’m 120LBS being on the patch), also I knew my libio was low while on Nexplanon but I never realized it was THATTT low. I feel like a whole new person lol.... also my breast size grew a whole cup starting the patch. Haven’t dealt with any of the common side effects I read about like nausea, headaches and cramps. Aside from tender breasts, I’d say give it a go. Everyone is different, could be right for you :)

I don't know I kind of feel self conscious because it's so noticeable compared to my darker skin. Im 19 years old and I haven’t been on birth control for about 2 years now because I had a really bad experience with the birth control pills but I’m about to start the patch this Friday and the video & reading some of the comments are really helpful and since I’m about to go back to birth control I’m sure my period will be a bit weird and not used to it but my question is, if let’s say I’m on the 3rd week and I start my period do I keep the patch on still or do I take off right away? Or if on the 4th week I don’t get my period and I start on the 1st week on the new set of patches what do I do? Do I just keep going with my rotation or do I change it up?
@TheLadysGuide
@TheLadysGuide 4 года назад
Hi Brenda, great question! You are right, your period may be a bit irregular when switching to another method. With the patch, it should be changed once weekly for 3 weeks followed by 1 week with it off. After 7 days of it being off, a new patch is applied. So even if you experience a period while the patch is on, leave the patch on. And if you do not get a period during the patch free week, this is OK. Over time your periods will regulate, usually by the third month.

Hi there, This video was really helpful and I’m probably going to start this form of birth control after I speak with my doctor. Though I am very timid when it comes to forms of birth control due to personal experience with the pill as well as all the horror stories. I specifically worry about my depression being effected heavily. I chose to stop all medications due to the overwhelming process, including my depression and anxiety medications. I have been naturally handling my disorders for a few years now. So my question is, how much can the hormones truly effect things such as depression and sex drive? Second question, if in some case an emergency contraceptive had to be taken (such as Plan B) how would that work? Or what are your suggestions? I am very keen on routine and don’t have many worries about missing any or forgetting to change my patch. But I have not been able to find specific answers for those questions. (Also, I do understand these are also questions I’ll be asking my doctor as well!) Thank you in advance!
@TheLadysGuide
@TheLadysGuide 3 года назад
Hi Mikayla, I’m glad you found it helpful! I completely understand your concerns, they are all super real and valid. Hormones can impact things such as depression and sex drive in some people and not in others. Depending on your personal circumstances, lifestyle, stress level, gut health- these all also play a role in symptoms of depression and anxiety. As far as sex drive, the longer you use a hormonal birth control method the more likely it is to lower sex drive. For using emergency contraception, do you mean if you were using the patch and then also wanted to use emergency contraception?
@mikmaaak

@@mikmaaak yea so if you took emergency contraception while on the patch it would just be an extra precaution that could possibly cause some irregular bleeding as a side effect. @TheLadysGuide
@TheLadysGuide 4 года назад
Hi Alison, it is common to experience acne when starting most birth control methods. However diet plays a role as well-particularly foods high in sugar and dairy can worsen acne. It is also common to experience itchiness where the patch is applied so rotating spots helps prevent this. If you experience itching around your entire body this should be addressed ASAP with your provider to make sure this isn't an allergic reaction.

Hi Melissa! Everyone reacts a bit differently to birth control so while some it can help their concerns, others feel it made their symptoms worse. I will say if you are considering the patch specifically to help with your acne there are many other lifestyle factors I’d recommend first. What we put into our body on a daily basis have major impacts on our skin and it’s possible to clear your skin without relying on medication. Check on my Instagram where I share information regarding acne. Also as far as weight gain, this is another side effect that effects some and not others. What typically happens is hormonal birth control has the potential to increase hunger which can cause weight gain if not eating healthy foods.

Really informative. The recommended places shared in the instructions are great, but is there anything wrong with putting it elsewhere. For example, above your ankle or wrist?

Hi there, thank you! It's important that it is over subcutaneous tissue (fat) for best absorption so applying it to the ankle or wrist is not recommended.

My patch loosens up when I'm taking a bath. If I leave it be and let it dry, will it get sticky again and be as effective?
@darneperson528
@darneperson528 3 года назад
Mine do the same as well but normally when it happens to me and I just let it be and dry, it’ll still stay. Sometimes if it’s about to come off I I’ll just pat the area around the patch dry and push and apply pressure on the patch so as it’s drying it’ll stick again. Yes it’s still effective up until it’s time to change it again.

Hi! my doctor told me to keep it in room temp or below 77F because once the patch is exposed to heat similar to our body temp, it will be activated & starts releasing the hormones. A hot shower is fine when you have it on you, I have hot bathes with it & it doesn't detach or work less effectively (:

@TheLadysGuide
@TheLadysGuide 4 года назад
Hi Cesia, a very common side effect that occurs when starting any birth control method is irregular bleeding. This can look like random spotting or getting a period at a time not normally expected. Usually this resolves within 3 months of using the new method correctly, so in this case changing the patch weekly x 3wks followed by no patch on the 4th week. It is always best to check in on your specific situation with your provider as well. :)

I left my birth control patches in the mailbox for three days I never realized it shipped and I don’t check the mailbox often. Will my birth control patch be ineffective or damaged from the heat? (They were sealed in a bag)
@slumberpartybard6355
@slumberpartybard6355 2 года назад
Hormone-based birth contains estrogen and/or progestin, and temperatures higher than 86 F (30 C) can cause changes in the medication's molecular structure. If this happens, birth control can lose its effectiveness, increasing your pregnancy risk.
