Couple years? Nah would take at least 5 because the closest to CGI movie graphics we have now is The Order 1886.

For games, we are no where close to movie CGI at the moment. It could be lots higher if everyone had supercomputers, or even if all games were ran on the PC. Consoles like the PS4 and XBONE hold back graphics development (in VIDEO GAMES) quite dramatically. These consoles aren't even developed using the greatest hardware/software/firmware, let alone when they're released years later or when they're five years old without a new replacement even in development yet. There's no reason to develop game engines, and graphics engines that will work with game engines, to the highest degree possible because the majority of industry income comes through closed box platforms. Games on the PC have options to upgrade the graphics over PS/XB graphics by a huge margin, however they still use the same engines so it's not like a game on the PC vs the XB is an otherworldly experience. Movie CGi developed on entirely different engines *are* otherworldly. However, they aren't real time renders. Meaning that they are rendered frame by frame, taking an extremely long time to render on computers that are exponentially more advanced then PCs that render video game frame at 30 to 400 times a second (depending on the game and hardware in the PC). Movie CGI rendering isn't even as advanced as it gets either. The bleeding edge of graphics development takes hours to render a single frame. I could explain what goes into it but trust me, it's way too complicated for RU-vid, I've already wrote three paragraphs and I doubt a single person is still reading right now, so I'll end it here ;)

Technological growth and cost is exponential. This could very well be our games graphical fidelity within 3 years.

Sort of like a shrapnel grenade,so it would be too dangerous to have it made from rocks.
