Yo Kenneth! Don't know if you still remember me, Jonathan from Singapore who used to drive a blue 180sx and we used to work together at Hot Stuff magazine, hanged out at Racing Works and sometimes drive together when you had your AE86. Remember? 😃🤘That was like 20 years ago man! Great times. 😊 I'm really happy to see you living your dreams in Japan. Wish I could keep in touch with you but don't know how. Treasure it and prepare for a long $distance marathon$. But do what you can to save these cars on our soil as much as possible. Cheers. I used the Initial D inspiration to get serious into sim racing then get a full time job at 15 and started attacking my local roads just a week after turning 17. Picked up an EF and transitioned from sim world to reality. Greatest memories ever, learning the car and the road, then randomly having someone notice your vehicle and take you on a battle. It is who i am today. I breath only to race and put everything into my car. It is who i am and it is my mechanical half. 5 years ago I dreamt about having a fully built and dialed car to my likings and camp in it during my weekends at the track. I'm living my life to the fullest and its been a dream thanks to ID getting me into chasing down fucks at 3am

This is all very similar to the mountain roads I used to grip-drive from 1999 to 2003 in my 1977 Porsche 924 that I built to full road race spec... I used to run Highway 2 Angeles Crest and Angeles Forest highways from San Gabriel Valley outside of LA up over the mountains to the High Desert city of Palmdale... I was learning to drift back then but there was NO ONE else to drift with... The release of Fast & Furious had everyone stuck on 1320' and street drags.... I still have the Porsche 21 years later... And I'm proud to say Im the new owner (#3!) Of a Black on Black BB2 Prelude with a ton of 90s JDM parts already installed including a F22 DOHC with a Spoon chipped P39 ECU and a set of cams readline is at 7900!!! Watching this stuff is really awesome.... I've only just NOW discovered Initial D!!!! I'm stoked! Thank you for you dedication and time!!!!

what made omiya spin out wasn't the absence of the wing, but the way it stayed on the car creating lift on the back. Given an ammount of angle of attack, it could create a force strong enough to mess up the handling even with speeds below 100 km/h, but that's something that should be tested (imagine an initial d version of mythbusters)
@desthelegend9353

Your points on the aerodynamics are quite convincing, however, I believe that aerodynamics would be almost as important as getting the suspension setup. My basis for this is in Rally racing, where the roads are incredibly bumpy and are typically held on public roads, exactly like street racing. In Rally, a lot of turns can be taken under 100Km/hr, yet aerodynamics is still widely used by competitive teams in the WRC. Aero has two purposes in Rally; improving grip on the dirt allowing the cars to corner faster, and to keep the car as close to the ground as possible. Hoshimiya's car also had a splitter underneath the rear bumper and likely also has a flat underbody to help keep the car planted to the ground as much as possible, and the splitter breaking and flailing in the wind put hoshimiya at a disadvantage, since his car is suddenly allowed to bounce around far more than with the wing in tact. This upsets the car and it's tuning, since the suspension is tuned for the higher level of downforce and not the reduced amount. His car then rides higher than with all the Aero functioning properly, raising the centre of gravity and making the car less stable over the bumps. Takumi's car has been tuned to drive over the bumps and to handle the force of constantly gaining miniscule amounts of airtime, and Takumi through prior experience at other touges (think about the race against the pro driver in the SPOON Civic on the rough, unstable roads) was able to handle the rises and troughs more like a straight road. It's only my theory so far, based on evidence in other places, and I haven't been to Yabitsu pass myself so I have no idea about the exact conditions of the road. In the video the road looks like it has a consistent wave like pattern in the height all the way along the road.

Having now driven some of these roads in Assetto, it's incredible how small and tight they are. 4th gear in my Miata on Tsukuba Fruits Line feels like warp 9. IRL, I'm getting into 4th quite often on the Carson downhill, which is tight by American standards. A bunch of our other "fun" roads would be 120mph before you ran out of grip, which is just not an option. I'd love to make the pilgrimage to Japan someday to experience the roads in person.

We've got a few roads like that in western North Carolina as well. They tend to not be quite as steep and they're always at least two lanes wide, but they can be incredibly technical. NC 215 is a particularly tricky one because of how deceptive it is - there's not a lot of hairpins on it but the road is pretty much one big chicane with almost no consistent rhythm, and it's a 55 MPH zone to boot so even everyday people will try and take it at pretty much highway speeds - something that's really not advised if you don't have experience with driving on roads like this. And I can't talk about mountain roads in western NC without mentioning Deal's Gap and the Tail of the Dragon.

One thing that I've never understood... Akagi, Usui, Myogi... All real world locations. What's more is that every single location in the series is accurately depicted down to the most minute details, aesthetically speaking at least... Yet, when it comes to Haruna being called Akina, it seems to be the only location with a fictional name... Fuckin why?

"omg he puts so much detail into the manga and anime!!!" Shinkai fans rolling on the floor laughing in tears XD but yes for what it is, Initial D manga was really detailed in terms of how the roads and surroundings are, it is also my dream to one day be able to visit japan and drive on all those touge

At that sharp right section where the Miata ( Initial D ) broke it's wing, I might have to hit the hand brake to slide out the rear almost kinda Rally style it's just an opinion how I could've or would've done
