Those old radiators are made of brass and copper. Radiator shop should be able to "rod it out" to remove sediment and open up the full cooling tubes. They'll also run a fin comb over it to straighten the fins for full airflow around the coolant tubes which will make it like a new radiator, but should be considerably cheaper than a new one.

The thing about overheating a machine a lot, you can boil the scale off the inside of the coolant galleries. This is not a bad thing as such because it allows better transfer of heat from the engine to the coolant,BUT, all that scale goes some where and it's usually to the bottom of the radiator. So yeah, you will probably have to flush your radiator even if it's good and give the block a good hosing out. Man I hope the old girl can show you what she's capable of.

A tip on testing thermostats, get a pot of boiling water going on the stove. Then place the thermostat in the water. If it opens up all the way, it's good, if it only opens part of the way or none at all, it's bad. Also, always get the OEM replacement. Those will more than likely always have the bleeder hole on it, which when installed, must be at the 12 o'clock position, to allow air pockets to go through it. Coolant, should also be flushed out every couple of seasons. That stuff is probably what is known in the automotive world as a 3 year coolant.

When I was too young to remember my mom loaded the kids into her station wagon and drove halfway across the country to visit my grandparents. The transmission blew the second she pulled into their driveway.

Part of your overheating problem could be that you don't have a hood. It helps act as a fan shroud to pull the air through the radiator.

Old tractor has probably has stop leak in it and everything is plugged up inside. Good luck.

Remove the thermostat and try with disc harrow without any thermostat. If overheating again the problem is the radiator and you must cleaning inside that.

Old tractors that have been unused for a long while need the obvious repairs plus the shakedown to find the hidden issues. Get those fixed and you'll have a great workhorse. You're close now. That disk is a great test load.

I heard a “squeal” when you started that tractor. Could just be as simple as a loose or old fan belt?

Have the radiator power flush then maybe think about a pusher radiator fan in front of radiator on a switch for extra cooling

Over heating with a radiator that old. Makes sense to take it off. Take it to a radiator shop. Let them. Boil it, rod it out. Make sure its in good condition.
