The 2023 VW Drag Race Season Kicked off!
We had a blast at Hot VWs Drag Day held at Irwindale Dragstrip.
Street legal Pro Tree VW drag racing involving super-detailed and fast street-legal VWs - that’s what the Real Street class is all about. This is one of the hottest categories in California’s Volkswagen drag scene, mainly running during the Triple Crown series events (Bug-In and HotVWs Drag Day).
Engine and Vehicle Restrictions
Weight for engine combinations is as follows:
Light 1738 lbs.: 82mm stroke/94mm bore
Medium 1775 lbs.: 84mm /94 mm
Heavy 1825 lbs.: 86 mm/94 mm
Gas: 91 octane max (No E85)
Factory-style: Steel and/or fiberglass body parts are OK as long as they are bolted like stock body parts. NO Dzus quarter-turn fasteners on outside body panels anywhere. Package tray areas and the shell of the VW must not be cut out. Must have a firewall and either bumpers or factory-style ragtop as penalty. Must run with decklid on - no more than a 10-inch gap between decklid and body.
Minimum trimming in the engine compartment and rear apron allowed. A minimum of two seats is required. Must have front door panels (matching seats or a stock passenger seat)
All Motor (carburetors only)
No power adders
No Fuel Injection
No mixed fuels (No octane boosters or fuel additives)
No fuel chillers (in the vehicle)
No vacuum pumps
No roller camshaft
No dry sumps (must be wet, stock, or deep sump)
No wheelie bars
No clutch management of any kind
No spool/No electronic lockers.
Stock VW dual-port intake stud location only. Manifold cannot be oversized (intake stud itself).
Functioning 4-wheel brakes required.
DOT tires allowed all around, 235/60-15 max in the rear (cheaters or street radials, front rollers allowed).
The engine cooling system must always remain in the engine; the fan belt could be removed (Stock shroud or 911 style allowed).
48mm bore carburetor as max.
No stingers (must run minimum 8” bullet style or 6” chambered muffler).
The carburetor may have 48.0mm throttle plates with 44mm venturi or smaller, Berg venturis are allowed.
IDA, IDF, DRLA, replicas and copies are allowed. Mods are OK as long as they remain mechanical and have throttle plates.
Stock transmission location is OK.
IRS trailing arms, 1-inch narrow allowed.
No raise or narrowing of torsion housing allowed.
Type 2 transmission allowed (must be within 1 inch of stock location).
No E.T. trigger in front of the car. (front bumper, T-bar, or no bumpers is OK)
No chop tops, roof sectioning, channeling, or shortening of floor pan or body.
Standard wheelbase, no scattered front wheels.
