Steve, what I did was I put the leaf spring in the mound first time the down most the way then I installed the leaf springs studs by pulling up or jacking up on the wheel and having a bunch a Center way home the frame in the rear, and I went together, quite nicely that way

Great video again Steve..........I really look forward to these being posted and the progress that you are making is fantastic. The easy way to install the spring is to remove the two "centre" of the six studs and replace them with two lengths of threaded rod, same UNF pitch as the studs and a couple of inches longer than the studs. Install the spring, fit the top plate over the two long temporary studs and then attach two washers and nuts. Simply tighten these down until the top plate is pushed down over the remaining four studs. Fit washers and nuts to these, remove the threaded rods (with "two nut method" if tight) and refit the last two studs, washers and nuts and you are done! Greetings from Scotland. Ken

Thanks Ken! That is certainly a good way to go about it! My manual said “reinstallation is the opposite of removal” so it was not very helpful.

On that plate, raise frame up so wheels are not on the ground, use some long pieces of threaded rod to pull the plate down into position, then install regular studs. Great videos!

A major milestone for sure! I noticed that you bent the tabs on the locking plates before you fitted the first hub but didn't seem to do so on the other side. Did you bend the tabs later? I'm sure you did but it'll worry me unless I know for sure!!!

Ratchet straps might have helped pull the fastening plate down so you could start the nuts .

So I actually tried that and it didn’t make the video. I was most of the way there then the handle on the strap broke so I had to cut it off because it was under load and didn’t want to come loose. Lol

Glad to see it rolling again! Looks great. I was hollering ratchet strap too! I think I left the axles disconnected at the diff, and connected then up after I had the spring installed. Been a few years though 🤔

My Spitfire should be out of paint in a few weeks so I will be tackling this soon! Would disconnecting the lower bolt of the shock absorber have helped? That should have allowed maximum travel down of the rear axle/driveshaft.

That lower bolt is actually part of the vertical link, so you can’t remove it. That needs to be put on first and then the shock gets put in the top of the frame.
