Good job, Steve. Those rebush kits for the shifter make a huge difference.

Thanks Chris! My brother had to make a wooden ball for his back in the 80s and it wasnt until recently that he put the proper one in!

@roundtailrestoration oh yes indeed. My two older brothers started out with an MG Midget and then that progressed into a Spitfire which happened to come with a Wife for one of them. Its been in the family since the early 90s.

Looks great! Word of warning on that rebuild kit. When I did mine, the metal dished washer/cap/cup thing that goes over the plastic dished washer~i had to use the one in the kit. It tore up the plastic one very quickly, I discovered the inner rim of the metal one needed to be deburred. Then later I found the plastic one cracked, so I made a new one from a large washer. I rounded it with a ball-pein Hammer with it set on a large socket.

Those gear lever selectors need rebuilding about every 5 years or so, if you use your car as a daily, so keep a spare set in stock.

My advice to you, if you even need it, is to keep a look out for another gearbox, or even several, and collect a set of undamaged gears for the next time you have to rebuild your gearbox because, and I hate to day this, your carefully rebuilt box with those filed down teeth 'may not' last? I may be wrong, but it would be good to have a back up plan.

I have it on good authority that the method of grinding down the damage should be fine. I am not racing it, and don't plan on beating on it.

I used an old shop manual that I downloaded. They are available on FB and I think they might be on TriumphSpitfire.com
