Good video. The thing about stares was on point and something I haven't seen any other reviewer mention. It's funny to think Snyder will have two characters lock eyes for 3 milliseconds and treat it as if fate itself bent the universe to connect these two souls that were meant to be together. It reminds me of that gag in Community were they put romantic music over normal interactions between two characters to show how easy it is to create drama.

Isn't it amazing how Roger Corman managed to do "Seven Samurai" in space with "Battle Beyond the Stars" and still had much better character work and a more coherent story than this? Roger Freakin' Corman! O yeah, and it took only one movie to tell the story. Guess that happens if you don't overcrank every other shot.

Snyder made these movies with the idea of a rated R directors cut in mind to be released after the actual movie……why? Him of all people should understand what a fucking directors cut is😂 god i fucking hate snyder

First time I saw Rebel Moon I thought I missed something, so I watched it again. Then it dawned on me that watching it was what adult onset ADHD is like.

Zack Snyder really makes me appreciate Joss Whedon. For all his flaws as a person, Whedon is great at making fun and interesting character interactions.

I can't believe Discount Conan watched as his mother went skydiving without a parachute 🙄

Tarak's backstory is even worse that you mentioned, he lets his mother fall. He has plenty of time to stop her, he can pick her and run out of there, but he doesn't. He just stands there and lies to everyone else about how he wanted to stay to protect his mother, but words do not match his actions in the flashback scene.

I've watched numerous video essays on this trainwreck film, and this is one of my favorites! Brilliantly done! Keep up the great work!

Again; how can Kora say that the Empire beat the kindness and love out of her, at the same time as she proclaims how they encouraged their soldiers to form bonds and find lovers to keep them motivated?! Why are the robots so fixated on this princess when they've been fighting and killing for the Empire for years, possibly centuries?! And why would a fucking admiral care about a tiny-ass village in the middle of nowhere!?! Aaaaaargh...

Such a terrible, terrible, terrible film. I don't care if an R cut is coming that is probably better, we have to judge this one it's own merit because he willingly and proudly released it, and this is one of the worst written big budget films I have probably ever seen. Aside from some of the special effects (namely the robot and some explosions) the film is atrociously bad on every level. Snyder does have talent, but when he's given full creative and ego reign, we get an abomination like this. It's a shame that so many far more talented people aren't even given the chance, but someone like him has climbed to the top of the Hollywood short list.

Why are people surprised that zack Snyder doesn't know how to do characters? Snyder hadn't done anything good sense three hundred. That's because all he did was copy the graphics book. He a special effects guy not a dictator or writer.

Maybe if the film showed Cary Elwes not being a dictator, and not raiding other planets like a genocidal maniac, we would feel something for when he hilariously died

Can’t we have just one galactic empire that isn’t just evil space Nazis? Like maybe have a group of space pirates or even a terrorist organization against said galactic empire that would be more interesting.

The response to this movie seem uniform across anyone I've seen talk about it. Snider means something in my country (I don't care if he spells it differently). It means Very Bad Quality.

These movies are such snyder garbage. That scene when Korra falls into basically the engine room of the titanic caused me to burst out loud laughing😂. Coal? Like earth coal, not even space coal, just regular earth coal on a space ship. And my god with all exposition and terrible dialogue.

Zoolander directed Rebel Moon. Style over substance. Not joking. Zoolander would have used a lot of slow mo and stupid dialogues just like this.

Style over substance. And as a bit of a Snyder apologist I have to say the style was lacking so with very little substance these sort of feel like nothing. Like dollar general action figures called “solar BAttle” . There’s no backstory even though the package makes it vaguely feel like there is

Another highlight of ZS weakness, a very solid critique, with a particle focus and detail you reference with characters, development, motivation, lack of plot, and how it leaves so many holes. The movie is lots of stuff, of little substance, with a disregard for answering so many “Why?”. Answer from ZS and kool aid drinkers have been., “Well it’s obvious, cool stuff happens, these various “moments” provide all the insight and detail you need, so stop hating.”

I didn’t watch this series of movies, and don’t plan to. I see this as an idea with zero fortitude for being a compelling story. Obvious Kurosawa and Star Wars love, but that’s nothing but admiration. There’s no grounds in this very ambitious story they are trying to tell. You can make the argument that “nothing in sci fi is new, everything has been done”. Maybe, but then do you have to be so blatant with your copy paste storytelling? Absolutely not. This is I think, a very good example of the Zack Snyder problem. Style over Substance. He can make a shot look spectacular, and paint it like a veteran artist. But the substance behind the shot is little to nothing. It’s uninspiring truthfully. I wish I had better things to say, but that’s really how I can sum it up. I don’t dislike all of his work, but yeah…this is bad. Great analysis as always sir, glad to have you back🫡
