Steve is literally the MOST underrated Guitarist ever. It blows my mind that when i talk about him people got no idea who im talking about but nobody my age listens to billy n steve like i do. I do not know why this is real music. It is a dream of mine to play this song just like Steve does
Steve Stevens is one of my favourite guitar players, along Steve Lukather and Eddie Van Halen, because he has that rare ability to write and arrange guitar parts that drive the tune and are as memorable, if not more, as the tune itself!
How tight is that playing! What a superb musician Steve is. Totally in control, massive sound and tone. Truly world class. Seen Steve twice with Billy and he just kicks arse, amazingly clear sound, not a wall of mush like alot of rock shows. Brilliant player!
I've been a huge Steve Stevens fan ever since I first heard him. Last weekend my band was playing a festival...2500-3000 people. The second last song of our show we did a cover of Rebel Yell. I love playing that song, the intro riff, the solo....all of it. I suffered a heart attack right on the stage while playing that song. Got rushed to the hospital and made it. Love ya Steve!
What got me hooked on Steve Stevens guitar work was specifically "Eyes Without A Face"...At the moment he breaks in to that track at around the halfway mark.
I just love this song, was a teenager when it came out, was hard time for me, but music was my saviour, as i grow older, i now appreciate it even more. Thank you Steve
You must realize this of course I hope, but it is always worth mentioning that you and your partner in crime (Billy) created music that was an integral part of the soundtrack of my youth along with many others among my peers. And still generates enthusiasm today. Thanks for posting.
So Flo? I lived in Lauderdale to the Keys about 8 years restoring an old Sportfisher. Was thinking, this am, the same thing. I always said Billy picked up the torch Elvis laid down, and God bless S.S. for keeping it burning! haha... At 52, and a longtime guitarist and songwriter, not sure where I would have ended up without Chris Isaak, Setzer/Cats, and the myriad of insanely diverse and profound music that was offered to us. Hopefully this shutdown will thin the herd down dramatically, and only the best will surface... Marc
Yeah, it was a 73 Post Sportfisher. Cedar Carvel planks over White Oak frames. Moved back to Mid Alabama, and preparing to reconnect with Nashville. Lived up there for about 11 years- meeting as many and learning as much pos. Left fairly bitter, but the So FL sunshine brought me back- wrote some of my best stuff down there... Take care and keep in touch. Marc
A lot of the guitarists I grew up with very seldom got the recognition they deserved, you only heard about a handful of them because of the over the top personas, while so many more were just as amazing if not more amazing.
Is this THE Steve Stevens' channel? When I was a teenager 15 years ago, this or covers of this were one of our most played songs. This song just has it. I still hear it around. Such a good guitar sound. So cool to hear exactly what happens in the song.
I play this in my cover band....it is one of my favorite songs to play. I studied every second of Steve's amazing performance of this....still gives me chills to play it and man it's hard to match the absolute fire, intensity and precision that Steve laid out.
Damn I didn't know my man Steve Stevens has a RU-vid channel?! I bought me a blue sparkle burst SSC Knaggs guitar a while back because I love Steve Stevens, turns out I love the guitar too! I wanted the red sparkle but couldn't find it so I got the blue. Everyone fanboys over the ray gun on the headstock!
Thanks for posting. There are some nuances in the guitar parts that are hard to pick up on in the album version. This is very helpful for learning to play the song.
This is brilliant, thanks for this Steve! I’d love to hear the Soul on ice track! And any others from Atomic Playboys or Exposed (which I’m sure you don’t have?)
I like how the Synth Guitar part in the middle bridge seems to reference Europop like the Nena song ‘Nur Geträumt’ - a tune with a very similar drum beat, it’s hard not to compare the two.
I had to look at his channel and seeing him perform solos as recently as last year... The man is a machine ageless has taken care of himself and is just a huge Talent
@@Shredwizard445 Indeed an early 70's Marshall Super Lead. Guitar was a Kramer Pacer....nothing fancy. There are only 2 rhythm guitars, one left-one right
Hi everyone. This brings back memories to me. Has anyone ever experienced this: ...???? _ You and your jamming buddies are ready to have fun and create a new masterpiece and you DO create something originally flawless but you can never recreate it again to where it has even a glimpse of the same majic..... - Three of us, in 1997 or so, had an Casio Keyboard with Drum patterns so I did Lead, guy did Keys and other did Bass. - We put an old Panasonic Tape Recorder in the middle of us and on top of a stool. - We made one of the very best instrumental songs of all time. - It was captured on a new Memorex Cassette tape. - Between us, we listened to it a hundred times. - It had so much feeling. - We tried a bit to recreate it but we quickly realized it was a waste of our time. - There's nothing like the first time. - All the minor imperfections in a song is the very thing that gives a song its unique flavor. - Thanks for uploading this. - JMc.
Steve, curious about the solo “phase gun shots” or whatever you would call them. Are these extreme pick clicks or are you using your toggle switch for this effect?
There is a video of him showing how it's done, but basically you are playing 2 parts with your picking hand - plucking the high strings to get the staccato rhythm part while at the same time picking with a pick with your thumb/index finger to play the riff. It's tricky and takes some practice, I can barely do it and not as smooth as Steve.
he uses a ray gun toy he bought for a few dollars, places it next to the guitar pickup - hence the pic in this video. If you are talking about 3:06, my guess is that he is using either one of those early Roland guitar synth, or the guitar Synth made by Casio in the early 80s
I'm actually scared to make a comment- for fear S.S. might actually be the one sitting there (under an original Patrick Nagel that no one has ever even seen), reading the comments! God himself knows I'd need the Holy Trinity to give me strength if he actually replied! Haha... Would be like the time I got to talk shop- one on one w Leon Russell, in Franklin, TN. Talk about a very cool and genuine man... R.I.P. brother.... Marc
