In this episode we focus on the worst part of the NSX, the engine! It has been covered in leaking oil and grime for who knows how long. I bought the most expensive service kit I could get my hands on so we could bring it back to life!
for sure agree but here in california there has been a major shortage. To get the dry ice pellets required for the dry ice blaster its over a month backordered sadly.
I think it is probably a mistake to not rebuild that engine while its out. Also would love to see a collaboration wit PFI Speed. Brent has owned a NSX for years and probably could help source parts as well.
30k for a NSX is a steal! I'd love for a cost breakdown at the end. Rebuilding a car is never cheap but I think it would be great to see how much money and work goes into a build like this
Parts are not cheap for this car. Like he said finding a black interior is hard. He’s gonna have a great car when he’s done and probably will make money on it when he sells it
Looks good! I’m a little worried about the piston rings/ bearings, but I hope it all checks out!! Seems like a parts washer might also be a good investment!
Something I recommend you to take a look at, is these cars have an individual throttle body flaps that get loose overtime. If the flaps get lose the screw might fall out and damage fall into your engine. Since you already have everything out. You might want to make sure those are torqued to spec!
love this nsx restoration! should look into adding Spoon Rigid collars to subframe, it'll stiffen the subframe by removing the factory gaps of subframe bolts, cheap too ($400 bucks). There's a specialty NSX shop in Orange County, CA called AUTOWAVE HONDA & ACURA SPECIALISTS that you can probably pick their brain on anything.
crazy how people always got something say about what ya do. man you guys know what your doing, you definitely got a great crew. Love your videos keep up all these great builds.
Tj so sick your restoring the NSX its such an iconic jdm legend and needs to be instead of rotting into the ground i know with your eye for style and with you and your team its gonna come out incredible so glad to see such a legend be put back on the roads keep up the great work 👍
So good watching men working on such a cool project. I know nothing about engines, etc, but this thing is going to be fantastic when you all complete it.
The hardened gooey runs are from the ckp sensor behind the cam gear. The potty compound melts and exposes the electronics of the sensor. It’s common thing. I have an acura legend and they share similarities and this is one of them. They all do that and it’s nothing to worry about. Those sensor hardly ever fail.
I so hope this gets supercharged, the nsx has ALWAYS needed more power for how insane it looks. I saw one zooming through toronto back in like 2004, bright red.
Love this TJ ! I returned back to your channel cause of this. I never stopped, just grew up and had kids but this is by far the most excited i’ve been for you since 2016 (18 y/o me) religiously watching your channel. & now @26 excited like day one of finding and supporting the channel.
You should definitely coat the aluminum you blasted in something like alodine or even just some kind of paint coating that will keep it from corroding again. It will rust even easier now that it's been blasted with abrasive media.
Diablo is such a pain. Seen a damaged Diablo GT in the works, nothing of the fibre parts fits together. Also the wiring looked as crazy as on this NSX. If you want to have the colour look nice & the same, you have to prepaint the whole car in white first, before giving it the yelllow coat. Engine is the easier part, when serviced correctly. Sounds & looks great for sure!
You have the best NSX color, please if you repaint it keep that same color (Brooklands Green) - it's just awesome. Paint the roof black for good measure too :)
Absolute love watching this. You guys are so funny, it’s like a comedy sketch but the work you guys carry out is of such a high standard. Keep up the great work!
The YT channel WD Detailing did a video on an NSX and mentioned swapping to the black interior. It has some MINT tan leather seats you might be interested in. Dunno if the owner would be willing to part with them but worth an ask imo.
Instead of finding black interior pieces, I’m sure you could find carbon fiber ones. Way more expensive but I feel like that would be easier to get than oem black pieces
I absolutely cannot wait to see the finish on this build! I loved this car as a kid and always thought I would own one…however…but yea, love the channel and I am super excited to see how this turns out!
Love this series, with everyone all in on it, Dillon and Ian are an amazing addition to you and Calvin. Love the style of the vids too especially lately, giving us just enough of the build but not too much to doze off, Anton also killin it! Hyped!
I'm new to the channel, the NSX rebuild brought me here. Great videos, great attitude and also: I love your guys sense of humor. Thoroughly enjoying the content! Love from The Netherlands.
Thank you guys, I really want to say your friendship and antics remind my wife and I of Grant Imahara (RIP Legend) and Tori Belleci from Mythbusters. 😂😢
love this channel its more then just the cars you guys make it great i find myself laughing and enjoying the episodes all the time also learning at the same time
This is the first time in a long time that i didn't want the video to end. I can't wait for the next video! This might be my favorite build of all time!
Put some cheap oil and filter. Add some oil cleaning additive and run for 20 min then drain. Do that a couple times to get the grime out and then some good oil and Honda filter. Kind of expensive but worth it for such a legendary car. Plus it’s cheap insurance relative to a rebuild.
So awesome. Been watching since Miley and I’m more excited for this build than almost any other. The 458 might take it. You should definitely supercharge the NSX! I think it’ll be the best bang for the buck and still make all the sounds it should. Love what you guys are doing keep up the great content!! Much love from Oklahoma!
Once that aluminum is sanded it strips the anodized barrier and makes it easy for corrosion to get into the aluminum causing the intergranular corrosion which is hard to see until it’s to late.
Fun content! Love that a nsx is being saved! With the engine out, check the intake air bypass fasteners. They tend to become loose and can cause catastrophic engine failure. Also would recommend installing a crankshaft damper pulley shield. This will also prevent the pulley cutting into your belt cover and possible timing belt damage.
I love watching these rescue videos. Watching an rx8 ine frim Gears and gasoline, your nsx, a few guys who bought wrecked super cars. Its kinda therapeutic to see them rebuilt and put back on the road. To me it wouldnt matter the car, but I'd like to see more of these!
